I am in pretty desperate need of help...I tried to design a box and I keep getting lost. I am working with about 18" in height, 48" in width, and roughly 20-25" of depth. I would like to do 2 15" BLs tuned to around 34 Hz or so. Can someone please help me out. Thanks.

i am new to building boxes and would like to know, about how accurate is the re box tool? I made a pretty nice little box tuned to 35 HZ and have no clue how accurate this tool is, so it would be good to know beforehand. thanks

cool, ty...i'll let her know....we are trying to push away from Rockford Fosgate and don't really like any other big mainstream subs in our area, lol. this is going in the bed of some toyota tundra quad cab she picked up at an auction for a cheap price...i imagine a audio person had it before cause it has a lid on it and a blowthrough already cut out...just nothing there.

I am curious what some of you are getting in a sealed setup with you Q's...my wife is kinda wanting a fairly loud setup (loud in the sense of volume, not db output)...I guess the term would be considered LSQ. Well, she wants to know what kind of numbers your subs are putting up in a sealed setup. Thank You

ANY INPUT??? WHAT IS GOING ON??? -
that would be fantastic, thanks nick

ports shorter, do you mean ports 1 &2 or ports 3&4...sorry, like i said, new to this. I am assuming 1&2. Plus, if it is at all possible, I wanna make it 4" wider total and take that difference off of the depth.

NEW LAW!!!! (important read) everyone please

Everyone else is posting, I might as well also, lol. I agree with a lot of the what is being said. It is one thing driving on the hwy at 55+ blaring a system, but it is a totally different perspective when sitting at a red light and I cant hear my talk radio cause some ass next to me is blaring his system. Yes, I do agree, those penalties are harsh, a little to harsh, but that is just my opinion. I understand the reason they are doing it, even though I think they should also look at other aspects/crimes and increase the fines for those, such as littering. As for those people who pointed out about how someone, forgot who, was using a statistic when he said he wasn't, get a dictionary, that was not a statistic. I am a statistician along with another member on this forum, MathMan...and sadly, not to long ago we both worked on some statistics for car insurance company, and the numbers of young, unexperienced drivers who were in accidents for distractions was overwhelming; and it was ridiculous how many were actually due to playing with their "brand new sound system." We came across at least 10 files out of 100 of teens crashing due to not paying attention to the road because they were playing with bass knobs and what-not. There were also police files we came across where people who had their system going full-tilt actually got tickets for, I forget the correct terminology, but I beleive it is something like hindering a emergency vehicle. Their reason in court, no lie, "I could not see them behind me because my mirrors were vibrating to badly." Just be happy you don't live in my area of FL, the law says 15FT in my area, NOT 25. I can fart and it will be heard 15 ft away, lol. Some people on here are acting way out of line, I understand you wanna listen to your system full tilt and blare it and whatnot, I do to....but people like M5 and not saying this is horrible and whatnot, they are saying be respectful about it. If you can't act like an adult, think, and see this; then I do apologize....don't refer back to being a third grader and start slandering, demeaning, and foul mouthing other people for their opinion...how childish; even though I did get a chuckle out of some of them. Oh, and people in my area do get tickets for throwing cig butts out of their window. I have seen two people get tickets for their pants being around their knees; the cop that gave them the ticket lives next door to me. He wrote it up as indicent exposure, it went to court, and the "kids" still got ticketed and got stuck with court costs. -
Has anyone heard the new memphis Mojo's? If so, how do they sound and what would/could you compare them to?

Keep us updated, now I wanna know what is going on!

Hm, an answer with some "added facts" behind it. I like that. One other person IM me as well backing the Q's despite his using the BTL's. I usually hear BTL users/lovers only back that, rarely saying a Q, lol.

Ok, so after talking to others, it has come down to these two. I want to compete, probably only ever gonna be local comps. I know i prob will not beat my friends ranger (a wall with RE 18's, cant SX's I think) but I wanna beat these guys the say Kicker are the best subs ever created. At the moment I have a RF4000.1 sitting around I got from a shop that closed down for pretty much nothing. I am doing a blow through in an 08 Ford F-150 FX2. Here is my tough decision. I can run this one amp and push 4 12" BL's or I can get 2 15" BTL's when the new models come out, and when money is good, do even more electrical upgrades and get a 2nd RF4000 for and seperate one RF4000 per each sub. Either way, I am pretty sure the 2 15's even off the 1 amp will be hella loud. The 2 15's would probably also take up less room and be easier to work with. What do you guys think? Like I said, once I get this last thing here figured out I will be good to go. I know I have been a pain in the azz, but you guys really are helpin me out a ton and I appreciate it. To answer before it gets asked, I am getting ready to order a 300amp alt. I should be getting a spool of 0gauge wire in soon to do big 3 and such. Finally, I have a local Kinetik dealer who is gettin me a battery for a good price. Next week I should have a yellow top to put under the hood. When the time comes for the second amp if I go that route, I will have two more batteries waiting for me and will be thinking about running 2 alts.

I think I will be going with the 12's. Sadly enough, I actually dreamed about the 15's last night. In the dream, they sounded great, but I realized one thing. The blowthrough isn't all that big of a hole in the back. Either way I am going to have to rip a seat out, but the kicker is, it is a lot easier to pull a 12 out through the blowthrough than a 15. My current trucks blowthrough is only 10" tall. It wouldn't be to bad, but it would be enough to piss me off more than I may wanna deal with. Plus, I am not entirely sure if I really wanna worry about doing more electrical upgrades later.

LOL! Good point. From my personal assumptions, I would think the Q's lose a little SPL but add a little more SQ. I cant even lie though, at this point, I know I want rid. loud. I would love to do hair tricks and junk. I would love to do 4 12" BTLs but that would require getting 2 RF4000's and doin all the electrical upfront....something I dont think I am quite that ready for. I just wanna be super loud and super happy..... I have a RF4000 at the moment, BUT if anyone, esp u JimJ, have any better amp suggestions then plz throw them out there. Maybe something like 2 3k watt amps or something. Or will the RF4000 be plenty. Regardless I am getting all the options on the subs.
-
How much "SPL" would be lost if I were to use 4 Q's instead of BL's. Since, either way, they would see 1k watts each, would they produce about the same results?
-
Is it ok to run 3 subs off 1 amp without any major worries. I was thinkin 3 15" BL's off 1 RF4000.1. What do you think? Or maybe I should just shut up and run 3 SAE-1000D's.
-
Hmmm, how stupid of me....that actually didn't even cross my mind, and it is such an easy answer, lol. I will probably end up doing 4 12's now. Do you think it would make a difference if I put the port on the top as opposed to the bottom? Wouldn't the box show more "strength" if I put the port on top cause the weight will not all be resting on the open section of it...if that makes sense.
-
I can't do subs up unfort. My subs and port have to face the same direction because it is going in a blow through. I would love that idea if I had a camper shell or something on the truck, but I only have a fiberglass lid. Maybe I should just suck it up and put 2 15" BTLs back there instead of 3 15" BLs. I was originally going to do 4 12" BLs but I fear between all the ports and the width I may not have enough room to fit them going across. SIDE NOTE: almost forgot, if I do the 2 15" BTLs, I will be adding a second RF4000 to the equation withing a couple months.
-
Yeah. Now I get the fun part of designing a enclosure. not to sure how I wanna do the ports, lol. Is it okay to have a slot port betweem each sub. IE>>>> O || O || O >>>>something like that where obviously O is a sub and || is a port.
-
true. Thanks for the help.
-
hmmm, i wonder if in the long run it will be safer to just run 3 amps total, 1 per sub. it will def be cheaper buyin 3 sundown 1k watt amps compared to one RF 4000.1 watt amp, even though that amp has 1k more watts.

Ok, here is what is going on....the truck is a 08 Ford F-150. I am going to do a blow through in the truck. I would like to compete once in awhile and just want to get really loud. After taking some small measurements I figure I could fit 4 12's straight across the back or maybe 2 15's. At the moment, I plan on running a Rockford 4000.1 to power them. Of course the 12's would probably be BL's or Q's and the 15's would be BTL's. What would probably perform better out of those? I am going to be new to competition and am not really sure where to go. Any help or questions for me would be great. Thanks.

I may go with that
-
Yeah Tej, that thought did cross my mind. That is also something she keeps saying. I pick the truck up in two months and I think her list of mods is bigger than mine, lol. She also fears I will wanna drive the ranger more if it has the bigger system, I dont know. But you make a great point on more room for electrical upgrades, that is true. I contacted a couple alt places and the biggest alt I could fine was like a 260, then there was no room to run dual alts at all in the engine. I didn't even think about that initially, so thank you.
