cant wait to order mine and drive my car after i install it, curious as to how bad the boost surge is going to be, especially with the tune on the car raising stock boost from 12 to 22psi......should be interesting. oh well, its gonna be my toy anyway, not a daily driver.....gonna be a long build with all the mods i have planned....need to get a digital camera so i can keep track of everything. -
The history of DC Power Engineering.
imsolost7886 replied to DC Power Kyle's topic in Test 1, 2, 3...
I was researching alts, and kept getting turned back towards dc, got on their site, filled out the form and left my email address and phone number. About an hour later, i got a call back on my request, and astonishingly an apology that he was leaving the office and couldnt email me back so he called me instead. I explained that I wasn't going to be buying for a little while but that never slowed his answers or enthusiasm in helping me. I'll be starting my build this winter and DC will be my alternator of choice. -
Do you use a remote knob?
imsolost7886 replied to mrbojang's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
always as long as its a remote gain, and only on my sub amp. occasionally needed to dial it down around town and elderly/children. that and i just dont like being a prick sitting at a stoplight. now i have kids, and working on a new stereo so ill need it simply to turn it down when i got them with me. on a side note, anybody ever cut it loose inside a parking garage and counted the car alarms? did it about 5 yrs ago with my cavalier, sx15 ported and 1200rms. 5 level garage parked in the 3rd level 84 car alarms, its hard to get a friend willing to stand on each level to count though. was fun, but i dont think ill be doing it again anytime soon. -
had the same experience a few years ago when Resonant Engineering was still owned by scott and all them. took my sx15 to a local shop, with a pretty sad install really, and amazed the guy. he told me it was the loudest single 15 setup he had heard. was underpowered and not enough box due to a small trunk. now they have a couple shops that sell the stuff. i will soon be a proud owner of sundown equipment and yet again, it will be time to show the local community what good products are all about.

I say get it fixed, do a ported box tuned around 33hz, set subsonic filter 5hz below ur tuning level. Make sure to set gain on the amp properly, do not mess with it once done correctly, also if you have some sort of "bass knob" disconnect and throw it away....it's not a volume knob....and if thats still not enough for you, then yes you will need to add more subs/larger sub....but in an s2k thats going to be an interesting feat.
-
I'd just get D2's and run 1.33 ohm.....no need to shorten the life of your amp, if you want more power, run 16v batts for competition and you'll more than make up the difference without voiding your warranty.

I had my sx15 in 3.5 cu ft after all displacements tuned to 33hz. Used 2 4" aeroports on mine tho. I think a slightly larger box would have enhanced the low end, but the sub sounded very good when listening to rock and the like. Rap it just tore down on, I would've just liked a bit more lows, but i couldnt fit any bigger box, unless i build it in the trunk.

I have been into car audio since I was 15, so almost 9 years now. But for the past 4yrs I have been married and no longer allowed anything to do with a stereo. Now due to other wonderful events in life (sarcasm) I am going thru a divorce. Time to catch up with the audio world and this time I can afford to go big. Spent most of my time on SIN/carstereos.org imsolost7886 over there also. Know quite a few of the guys on here from there, but again its been awhile so it'll be nice catching up with you guys also. Hopefully soon enough, I'll be back to answering questions instead of asking a bunch. Spent a good 10hrs between yesterday and this morning doing a lot of reading. Still only scratched the surface, especially with a lot of the topics I read being more towards what I am planning for myself. Nice to see so many guys on here still willing to help out the new guys though and even sharing ideas with one another. As for my plans, I am purchasing a 2dr Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon. I will be going with a wall behind the rear seat, planning on 2 18's (more than likely BTL's) but I am open to other suggestions. Mostly a daily driver setup, although I will be competing with it on occasion. I am planning on 1 or 2 250-300 amp alts, 2-4 xs power 3100's. Needing suggestions on power wire options, leaning towards custom rings/dist blocks/fuse holders and go with stinger 3/0, 1 or 2 runs? then down to 1/0 for my big sub amp(s) and 4 for my speaker amps. As far as power goes, I'm pretty well set on running Sundown Audio, talked to Jacob a lot before he ever started the company and I'll definitely be a supporter, especially with the cost/reliability/service offered. Should I be thinking of a single 4500d for the pair of btl's? or 1 per? Also planning on learning how to do my own fiberglassing and doing custom doorpanels and such. Up for suggestions on components, thinking 2 sets in the front doors and 1 set in kicks....then making custom enclosures in the backseat area panels for 2 more sets so i'd be looking at 2-3 100.4's. Sound deadening is already chosen, definitely going secondskin, but what combinations of their product line i should use? I've looked at the spl tiles, damplifier pro, and luxury liner....just curious as to where to apply, what to apply to where, and how much of it (layers). If you have any suggestions on anything I have meantioned please feel free to pm me or let me know on here. Also I've noticed the BTL's have quite a few build options, for what I have described, what of those options would you recommend? thanks again and i hope to be doing a build log in the next few months, it will be a slow process though as i am a truck driver.

Iraggi Alternators, I need info please
imsolost7886 replied to Typicaljawaiian's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I bought an alt from Iraggi a long time ago, in itself it was good, for the 100 bucks he charged me for a custom bracket, that itself was absurd....cold rolled steel, hand cut, rough and shitty....i've also had a friend who recently bought from him, regulator went to hell after 3 months on him.....but then again, i've also heard nothing but great things about him....so maybe it was either just something bad squeaking through or just lack of effort at times....i dont know that i would buy from him again after my experience and i know my friend will not....even if i spend a lot more from someone else....one bad experience is all it takes. -
I dont have any dc shit, havent even heard it......but dude, kicker....come on now....that is the most whored out name on ebay....you want shit cheap then go with it...but if you want quality in both the build or sound of a woofer...i'd bet dc is better, look at fi, ssa, sundown....lots of good shit out there for the money....

how much space are the 18's going to want? im still pretty sold on the btl idea.....but im getting more and more interested everyday, especially since im gonna run all sundown audio amps in my setup....if they fit in a less space than the btl, you'd probably have an order for at least 2, possibly 4.....

RD Alpha v2 15 vs. new RE XXX 15
imsolost7886 replied to nikesoccer275's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
i have never owned, seen or heard an RD product. With that being said, in reading all of these comments, I'd buy from eDuh before i would ever consider RD. Customer service is what makes or breaks a company, other than their product line. Especially when you take into account a lot of guys on these forums compete or at least are heavy users of their systems......things wear out, mistakes are made at times, and things just break. Without customer service to back up even a great product, the company will fail because you can't just make a great product and be done with it, you have to back it up. With hearing also that the product line from the get go is crap, that just makes for a definite no no on buying anything from them. Why do you think so many people feel the way they do about ED? A lot of people have been screwed by a lot of shady internet companies and even with the fanboys out there, real customers saying they were wronged hurts a company 10x's more than 1 good comment on a product or service. As for Scott at FI reconing the new split coil xxx's, I've asked him to for me and he says he doesnt have the tooling to do it, at least I believe thats what it was. Something he needs to do the job is unavailable to him. Which sucks, because I'd love to get mine reconed to use for HT use. At least he can recone my old sx15 for use in my 2nd vehicle. I'm going with sundown audio/fi audio/secondskin for most of my new system, because they all have great customer service backing up even better products. -
Mine wasnt due to family, we had plenty of extra money over and above our bills....i just didnt know about it or get to spend a dime of it.....going thru a messy divorce right now....funny the things you find out when you finally open your eyes.....also being a truck driver hasnt made life to easy, but at the time it was the only way i could support my family and whatnot.....

welcome from another michigan member, altho im closer to the other 2 guys being from the st joseph/benton harbor area.

thanks guys, and like I said, the build log will be a ways off.....its gonna take me a little time to acquire all of the stuff to do it first, then make time to get it all installed...but it'll be worth it when im done.....im not expecting to finish this project until next spring honestly, hopefully sooner but if not oh well....
-
also going with a pioneer premier prs880 for a h/u as long as i can get my hands on one.....as far as budget goes, i'd like to save a bit of money where i can, but ill spend whatever i need to, to do this right.....i got nothing but time on this project so i want it all done right so when im done it looks very professional. also any recommendations on HO alts would be appreciated. thanks again Mike

i have been checking out xs for batteries closely lately. was hooked on kinetik for awhile, biggest difference i can see between a kinetik and xs battery (other than kinetik being a lot more pricey) is the kinetik has a higher resting voltage....checked out a guys hc3800 and it sits at 13.9v and after he left it sit for 3 months it has still only dropped to 13.7v. otherwise the xs seems to be a much better buy, very comparable everywhere except resting voltage and price, and for the difference im going with xs for my install.

i listen to a lot of different types of music myself. mostly rock now and rap still. I have had many sealed systems and a few ported ones, all ported systems tuned to 33hz, played rock very well, but thats in messing with the box design, also has to do with the woofer. you will notice more low end on a ported box though and you can blend that over time with work here and there, but if you want something that just blends in right away. stay sealed. i wont ever go back to sealed now, but im also planning a much louder setup now so that makes a difference for me.

i would go with sundown audio 2000d's.....the zx2500.1 is nice too....and ku40 is right, dependent upon efficiency, you're going to be drawing around the same amount of current whether with 2 2kw amps or a single 4kw amp....what you have battery/alt wise sounds good, but how much wiring do you have? a single run of 1/0 or more than that? when you start playing with this amount of power, doubling and tripling up runs of 1/0 can make quite a difference, altho its not cheap. but as far as bang for your buck amps, sundown audio is awesome, good looking stuff, good support and reliability and power that is just sweet. by the way, ku40, what you been upto man? (imsolost7886) off of soundillusions.net havent been around in forever, but this time im back and im going big. *edit* kill the kicker zx 2500.1 it is stable to 2 ohms only....at least that i can find....also, i've owned a t20001bd and i wasnt really impressed with the output to cost ratio....it was way under power for the avg benches.

re mt 18 or sundown nightshade? its been so long out of audio for me, im currently looking at getting a pair of btl 18's myself tho
