ummm no, thats gonna be mine soon here, i really dont want it in non working order.
  4. ok misread a bit. i'd go with the idea of double readouts. in fact i like that for myself. i'd do a reading at your battery or alt, and one like was said, right at the amplifier or rear batteries. lets see how it looks when ur done bro.
  5. clean up the same spot u had it, and the back of it, gorilla glue. doesnt seem like a bad spot to have it mounted.

    SSA Xcon 18"

Putting this into a grand caravan, middle seats up, backseat stowed. Going ported, thinking 30-33hz tuning wise, any recommendations? Going to run it off a Sundown 1500d, so box size recommendations? Also, will be running the stock alt for awhile (160 factory). Doing my big 3 upgrade with 1/0 and a single run of 1/0 for now....later upgrades will be wiring and alt before anything else...also no sound deadening for now...also looking for any recommendations for sub/port orientation? sub/port back towards hatch, sub up/ports toward hatch, sub up/port facing side....anyone with experience in a minivan would be nice, not that most of you have one, but a guy can hope lol. thanks for any help. MIKE

    SSA Xcon 18"

well, i gotta do my measurements still. but i've been doing a lot of reading in the build logs. thinking i may just go slot ported since i've done them before. just gonna have to use my grandpa's table saw, was also considering doing the box out of baltic birch. i know its more expensive, but i can stain it and it'll look really nice, otherwise im going to do mdf and rhino line it. this box is going to take me forever, if anybody has some skills with drawing, im looking for an x-con logo with the dash. I have a way to cut it out, i just need someone with much better artistic abilities than i to draw it up. thanks again for all the replies.

    "Monster" v.2 Prototype Due Soon

if i remember him correctly, 5-8 in any kind of production or proto state, probably 10-12 in some sort of paper state, and a million plus ideas in his head.....this is all from talking so long ago, like redneck on aim....but jake's just got the intelligence and ambition for this.....cant wait to see what sundown will be in 3 years let alone 10.

    Amplifier Stock News (Announcement Inside)

hahaha at mr ford. jacob's a good guy all around, cant wait to see this monster....although if work keeps picking up, im gonna need to bag my van just to support the weight.

    Working on 500-watt Line

well if anybody will be tuning in for a high excursion low end monster from sundown it'll be me.....i'd like nice spl scores, but drive by is where its at....thats truly loud. I'd like to see a 40mm linear xmax+ driver....as i've pretty much decided on using my xxx for home audio now. yes i'd like to see something surpass it 55-60mm linear would be insane...dont care what power it needs, as long as it sounds good and blows my head off. but it is something everyone will buy or jacob wants to produce right now? only time will tell, either way, if its sundown, im tuning in and always interested.

    SSA Xcon 18"

guess i gotta get off my ass and start measuring my van...i know i got plenty of room, but i'd like it to fit correctly lol.....thanks for the help so far....question tho....thinking i'd like to go aeroport, 3 or 4 6" aeroports? where do i need to look for a port calculator length wise on them? its going to be 7.65 cu ft after all displacements. also will need to figure out displacement of the ports....been forever since i built a box, going to try and make this my best, so any help or recommendations are welcome.

    square sub vs roudn sub?

definitely could've explained it better, but you can understand it. generally speaking, more cone area, with power being the same, box design etc being correct in the same vehicle, the one with more cone area will be louder on a mic. to the ear will depend on tuning and the subs tendency to play lower, as lower frequencies are registered louder to the ears. i prefer round cones for the simple reasoning, while the sub is in motion, it is stressing the surface of the surround equally or close to equal anyway, with a square or other cone, the surround tends to see more stress in corners, sometimes tearing over time or abuse. I've heard many L7's I hated, also heard a Solo-X that sounded amazing. i think it's more preference than anything.

    Working on 500-watt Line

videsh, what year XXX you got? I'm gonna have a 1500d here soon and I have an 07 XXX (the big travel monster) needing a recone, im just curious as to whether the 1500d would be enough power if i decide to use it for car audio instead of home like i originally intended.

    SSA subs motor strength question

also going to depend on the size of the vehicle you had vs the new one. if you had a single 15 in a tahoe, then you're going to do a single 12 in a crx, the 12 will definitely be louder do to pressurizing less air space. thats a very big swap size wise in vehicles just as a reference. i had a 15 in a small car ported, now i have a minivan and im doing a single 18 ported, im curious how it will sound compared to my old setup but really, as long as it sounds good ill be happy. probably be the same with yourself....

Box dimensions for a 15 inch Xcon

dunno if you built it already or not, but im with denim, i'd go 3.0 cu ft. if its not enough for you, then polyfill it. going 3.5 you'll be too far to do much other than fill it in if you're too big. polyfill makes a big difference if its too small, basically, will only be the lower end response. i havent done a sealed box in forever, but i'd go centered with the sub also, yes is for looks alone, but i doubt having the sub set to the open side of the trunk is going to make that big of a difference, might actually sound better with it bouncing off something first.

So, I got pulled over yesterday...

local ordinance, 50ft if the cop can hear you audibly, over 85db, he can write you a ticket, first fine is $50 they go up $50 each time after until $250. Got one almost 6 years ago...went to court, asked the officer if he had any training or if he had a decibel meter to know how loud i was.....his answer obviously was no. judge threw the ticket out, i've seen people with stock stereos get tickets for excessive noise. generally when i cut it loose, im on the highway, out in the country or in an empty parking lot. with my old setup, sx15 ported and tsunami 1800d, my friend lives out in the country and he said he could hear me before i hit the hill by his house, which is about 1/4-3/8 mile.....but out there, houses are sometimes a mile apart so im not bothering anyone....being a former truck driver, cops in ohio are dicks. i hope you can get it cut down on the fine, but unfortunately, by the law, you were in the wrong. its shitty, but it just is what it is.

    New BTL not very loud...

how high have you turned the volume up to? that amp will do rated or damn close to it at 12.5v. why dont you take some pics of how you have the sub wired up and such and post them. sometimes seeing makes it easier for the rest of us. reason i asked about the volume, that amp should draw around 250-300 amps at full tilt, so that fuse shouldnt last long under heavy beating. but im with everyone else, find a dmm somewhere, a friend or family member, check the load the amp is seeing first, if its off, then pull the sub out and check the coils, if they are good, you have it hooked up wrong. good luck man

    volkswagen jetta build

well thanks, i've had some practice....i like to model different response curves with box builds.....never had anything that wasnt loud and sounded good....i wont sacrifice sound for spl output...my dad isnt interested in output as much as sound but i know he needs some output to make up for his lack of hearing after machining for 30 years.....

    volkswagen jetta build

Building a little setup for my dad, its going into a volkswagen jetta, already has an alpine mrd-500 in it, so im basing my sub decision around that power. He listens to oldies, classic rock, country...so i was thinking something along the lines of a pair of sundown e8's, sundown sa-10 etc....any other recommendations are welcome. Also thinking either a low tuned ported box, or 4th order bandpass. Hes missing a bit of hearing on the low end scale so this could make up for it.

    volkswagen jetta build

It does offer the flattest response over the entire curve, but with my fathers machining background and age, hes lost some of his lower end hearing....a ported box would make up for that and with the right setup could still offer a very nice sounding setup....im very particular in builiding boxes, especially ported since it will affect the sound and output of the woofer so much.....both of my ported setups could easily play any music from oldies, classic rock to rap and get all the lows, mids and highs that a subwoofer plays without having distortion issues. That was with a DEI Studio 12 and a RE SX 15.
