to the guys at Fi- if it makes any difference i will be using this 12 sealed off of a US Amps AX600DE and per Flakko will push 800-850 at 13.6v. just wanted to give you a heads up if it makes a difference in the build if you set them up any differently. zac lampson

i cannot speak for the Q, but when i was trying to decide between the SSD Copper Coil or the Q- i had alot of people chime in and give the SSD CC a solid nod of approval and so far i can say that i am glad that i came here for some help. don't think that because, the SSD is Fi's opening price subwoofer that it is just an entry level Me2 product. for 2 bills this thing is hard to beat.

update- i got the sub a little late since UPS decided to send it to Sacramento after it got to Reno, so it took a few extra days to make its way back into Nevada. i built a box to fit along the rear driver side wheel well using mostly 3/4 mdf and a little fiberglass work to mold to the curve of the wheel well. i reinforced the faceplate with fiberglass. the box sticks out a good 13" since the sub fires directly back. its a little bigger than i would like, but this will be a great fit since all my sample bags will fit just fine in the car and wont interfere like it would with a side firing sub. the SSD 12 CC really pounds for a sealed box. it is pretty accurate and the SQ is pretty solid. playing rock music it pounds just fine wired off of one VC, but get into the Rap/A$$ Shakin stuff and the AX600DE shuts down. after wiring the Dual 1 ohm VC in SERIES i went back through my library on the Z1. i did not really notice a loss in volume and the SSD just hammers out the lows. even while idling the AX600DE just DRIVES this sub. i get no loss of power and no dimming- something i expected with the storm coming through the area and using all the accessories like the heated seats, window defrosters, and heater blasting. this is just an early update. i will be on the road all week starting Monday, so i will get some good listening time in. very happy with how efficient the amp is and how good this SSD sounds. i will build a ported box once the weather warms up in a few months. someone mention somewhere that the SSD 12 just begs to be ported and while i feel he may be right-- i am enjoying the SQ setup. just wanted to thank all who chimed in and Nick who stuck by his recommendation even after i second guessed him.

Yup, I know. I was so anxious to hear how it sounded that I just threw it in. I made it 16 years ago in high school. The walls are a little less than a half inch thick with 1/2"pboard back. It rolls like a mf so I got it bungeed to the back of my trunk. Works for now until I build a spec box per FI... ported though. Rugdnit... How much space you looking to take up? A 1.3 like mine takes up just a small amount of space for a 12" and if I had the power it would definitely bump. I wasn't impressed with the sub initially but after break in, it is much more powerful. For an entry level 12" I can definitely say its better than the type R's, Atomics, and other pitiful speakers I had. Try borrowing a friend's ported box and compare it to yours when you build it. I kinda want to keep my trunk space but the Fi's scream for ports. i am doing 1.2 sealed and will build a ported box as well. no big deal.... i have built so many boxes that i enjoy it. it will be cool to have 2.

my last 3 vehicles were just crap for any type of mounting depth for subs, so i have had to resort to 8s the last five years. the best box i built was a fibreglass custom center console for my 04 F150- i had 4 RE8s ported at 32hz. i have always preferred larger drivers, but the last 12 i had was a 12w6 and was thoroughly not impressed with 2 of them sealed ( this was in 98 though and the subs have gotten so much better since then ). i have better amps this time around and am hoping that i will have solid output from a single sealed 12. otherwise i have the perfect box already built for 2 AA 8s tuned to 28hz cuz building a ported box for this guy will be fun, but i wont get to use it much due to it taking up so much room.
-
just curious are you ported or sealed? when i was younger and did not care about space i built alot of sealed systems with multiple drivers. now that i am older and need the space- the last few boxes i have built have been single driver ported. with the proper tuning i have been pretty happy with the output as well as sound quality. just wonder how good this thing will sound sealed. hard to really say until it's in for sure.

when i was a kid working at a motorcycle shop ( parts dept ) we would call up other shops when business was slow. we would ask for parts that dont exist and hassle the guy on the other end of the phone for a good laugh. on one hand you really have to wonder how such silly questions get asked- is it just a set up or does the guy really need help? ever wonder if losers from other boards are just baiting you? i dont like the idea of chasing people off by being rude and i hope that is not the case here ( that is what caraudio.com is for ).

I'm still confused with amps and wiring, I thought I'd need 2000 watts to power these subs? 1000 watts a piece per sub right? Wouldn't 1400 be underpowering them at 700 watts a piece at best? You don't need a kW to power a Q. When I auditioned one, 700W was perfect... The amp works the same whether or not the gain setting is set at full, or barely turned.JIMJ- so if 700W is enough for a 12Q why would my US AMPS AX600DE ( which Flakko says will put out 800W ) not be enough? just curious. sorry in advance for hi-jacking the thread.

simple port question, my first ported enclosure...

JLs website says not to divide the amount in half..... read up on their boxbuilder port info.... good stuff. -
i am toying with the idea of either a ported 10Q or a sealed 12Q. overall i want SQ, but want it to get loud. i listen to mostly rock music and really enjoy a good jamming bass line. i am a sales rep so i spend alot of time on the road and due to needing the space for samples i don't want a box much bigger than 1.5 cubes ( MAX ). my question is this- i already have the AX600DE-- is it enough to drive a 12Q sealed? i know that at 1 ohm it will drive 600W ( on paper ). the amp is extremely efficient, but will it really drive either Q? this is more of a question for Scott or someone with experience with Fi. i am not a newbie by any means- i am just looking for some good info from somebody who knows the product very well. thanx! HU: Avic Z1 Front Stage: Cdt M6 Comps/Silk Dome Tweets Amps: AXTU4360 AX600DE Subs: 2 Ed 9.kv2 ported / 4 RE8 ported depending on space avail

same address....ATTN: TShirts???? lol!

Flakko- thanx man! when i got it i was kinda surprised how small it was, but once fired it up i knew there was alot more under the hood. like i said i will get a review for you once i have a chance to run the 12.

be careful when you tell her she is wrong.... being right can lead to NO PIE

Flakko- dude you are too classy. you should have chimed in way earlier. i have a feeling that the 600DE kicks out more than 600 watts. this amp is by far the most efficient amp i have owned- and i have had pretty much all of them. lets say the thing kicks out 700-750??? is there a reason why that wouldn't make a 12Q Jam? didnt see the post would you mind doing a review on the AX 600de and comparing it to the other amps youve used? again, dont forget ask for the soft spiders...scott recommended them to me when i was sub searching with limited power. well in the AX line those were my two options- the 600DE and the 3200DE-- for the amount of power i needed the 3200 was way overboard and $$$. it would have been nice to see a 1-1.5K DE. i think you guys kinda missed the boat there. i would have gone merlin, but i wanted it to match the AXTU4360. when i get a chance to run a larger driver with this amp i will give a review of it. alright- i have done a bunch of reading through the site. sounds like a 12ssd w/ copper coil option would be nice. i also read somewhere that with some info on the application Scott can set it up to perform better. Scott/Fi can you elaborate a little on this?

seriously guys....you need to give your head a shake...... i wont be impressed until her clothes are ripped off and we get to see it all..... add more subs and power.... lets get some REAL velocity going. c'mon help me out.. i am married. we are close, but not quite there! lol! pretty cool!

JIMJ- on another note- i talked to Greg at US AMPS and had Dirk install the JJ ECC83 Gold Pins on my AXTU4360. calmed the amp down a bunch. that said i somewhat miss the mid punch that the Stock tubes had. perhaps my Avic Z1 does not have a very flexible EQ to really get the sound i am looking for. sound is subjective, so my opinion counts very little in the big scheme.

i had read so many good things about the Q and i like the way a 12 sounds over a 10. perhaps Flakko can shed some light on what the 600DE benches at. what would i really be giving up by going with an SSD with CC?

btw-- what kind of tubes are in your amp???

i remember Blade....weren't they out of Vancouver BC? has anyone tried different tubes in there amps?
