  1. There is effectively no difference to the ear between 950 and 1000.
  2. Depending on the model, that Soundstream could be a fantastic amp. Of the more than 10 amps I own, exactly one has a subsonic filter. I don't own any shitty amps either.

Nice butt, but you lost me at the big back tattoo.

Really clean look. The box looks great....but something is missing....

    JL 8w0

Wow. Dig up a dead thread to whine about JL prices.
  6. First, you shouldn't be using drywall screws to mount an amp. Second, unless you stripped the screw holes during the install, they will not vibrate loose. Third, the sub box shouldn't vibrate any more than anything else in the car, if it is, it's built like utter crap. The sub box should be the most stable place in the car, in fact.
  7. Bose is a four letter word in circles that actually care about how stuff sounds.

11 Speakers and 2 Subs. Lost on install

    You can't de-fuck a cluster. Just FYI.

Just curious, what was your "reference" amp?

I'd guess different tolerances in the crossovers.

    Sealed box frequency response

Your hearing doesn't go that low either. If the recording does have content down there you feel it rather than hear it. Sealed can handle this but it takes a lot of excursion and cone area to make it happen. The size of a sealed enclosure affects the system Q which is a description of the shape of the impedance curve but also describes the response to some degree. A lower Q system (bigger box) typically has smoother response and better low freq output but they suffer in the power handling department. IB systems usually end up in the low Q category. Higher Q roll off more steeply and sooner and can mechanically handle more power thanks to the higher box damping.
  13. If I was to take a guess I would say, With the speakers connected there using power and in turn lowering the voltage reading. Example: check battery voltage at idle with stereo off vs stereo at full tilt (voltage drop). But this is just a guess That's part of it but the other part is that you could 1) blow the speakers and 2) blow your ears (actually more a concern with mids and highs). Also the back EMF from the driver will affect the voltage reading as Tirefryr mentioned.

^^^ I give props for the install. I've seen much worse with much more expensive gear. Mismatched subs FTL though.

Those poor abused amplifiers.... No offense but the Orion 2100 HCCA that I posted pics of earlier and 2 of the 225 HCCAs were in a rollover accident that totaled the truck they were in. They're in better shape than those. They're almost perfect actually.

    Box Impedance Rise.

You're worrying about something that you really don't have a lot of control over and is completely normal. Trying to eliminate impedance rise is like trying to keep from being affected by gravity. Physics being what they are make both impossible. The more power you run, the worse you'll make it in a daily driver.

Its an 18! Loud is covered.

    Soundstream xxx18 custom box

Not really. Unless your music of preference only has bass content between 35 and 45 hz, tuning lower is going to sound better. Tuning that high only serves to greatly exaggerate the freqs right around tuning. It hinders transient response and doesn't help group delay either. The result is loud but shitty sounding bass.

It was possible the control unit for the Rockford EPX system. Talk about something that was way ahead of its time.
  22. How about using actual numbers? They're easy to find by simply looking at the SSA Product page for the XCon. The T/S spec "Sd" is effective cone area stated in cm^2. If you want it in inches, just convert. That gives you 480 cm^2 per 12 which is 74.4 in^2. The 15s are 810 cm^2 or 125.55 in^2. That makes 5 12s roughly equivalent to 3 15s. Add another of each and the percentage cone area advantage is pretty significant for the 15s at over 10%. However 10% isn't an audible difference. The 15s also want a slightly smaller enclosure. All that said, in a high power application the increase in heat dissipation allowed by the extra 2 motors of the 12s may reduce power compression and more than make up for the cone area difference. In a daily system, you aren't going to notice the difference one way or the other. If it were me, I'd go with the 15s for the cost savings and space savings.

    Soundstream xxx18 custom box

If you want it to sound even remotely decent, don't tune higher than 35. Even that is too high IMO.

F3 is the 3dB down point from reference, not Fb. In the case of a mistuned box where there is a peak in the response, the peak around Fb is referred to as +dB from reference. Reference is the flat response of the driver with no port effects or roll-off.

    Rare audio stuff

After the damage that's been done, they've got their work cut out for them. I wish them luck. Their first step should be to bring the MS and MPS series amps back. No changes to the design other than spec better caps.
