Looks like a JL 8w3.

The problem would be having the tweet in the coax and the seperate tweets both playing the same freqs. Total train-wreck on the freq response.

I'm at a crossroads. I just effed up the box I'd been working on for my older XXX 12 so before I start on a new box I figured I'd get some opinions. I'm redoing the system for the 2nd time. The front stage is purchased: the CDT ES-02s are here and the ES-06+s are on their way. My options for power on them are a 225 HCCA bridged on each midbass and a 225 in stereo to the mid/tweets or the Son of Frank running the whole setup. Probably go with the latter for simplicity and because the amp is awesome. The dilema is with the sub stage. Right now I have the '03 XXX 12 in D2 config, a trio of 10W6s and a quartet of Assassin 8s at my disposal. For power I have a PG MS-2125 or a HCCA 2100 (that I'm not really willing to run @ 1 ohm). I'm thinking about getting some new gear for one or the other though. Going that route I would either get a pair of Fi SSd 10s in D2 config and run them on the 2100 @ 2 ohms or get a SAZ-1500D and go with the XXX or Assassins. My system goals are SQ. The subs will be crossed in the 60Hz range and I want a nice full bottom end (which is why I'm leaning toward the XXX out of the subs I have currently). Obviously with the kind of power I'm looking at it will be able to get pretty loud, too but that isn't the primary focus. I listen to everything, rock, jazz, country, a bit of rap, classical, everything. The subs will be in a low tuned ported box built to spec, which is why I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do, so I can start building the box. I'm sick of not having a stereo in the car and I have some time to work. Ideas, suggestions, anything I didn't think of. I'm leaning toward the amp...

Unless someone comes up with a really convincing argument for some other course of action here in about the next 2.5 hours, I'll be going with the SAZ. I'll drop you PM when the time comes, denim. I think you would be quite right on that.

"The Duece" would be too much power for the mids then I guess?
-
I need an amp to power subs??? Maybe that would explain why I have 13 amps sitting around my house right now.

Love my Lab. Papered. Champion lines on both sides both show and trials. $400. The lack of bite inibition is usually an indication that the dog was removed from the litter too early. That is something that is learned, not instinctive, and it's learned through play with the rest of the litter. Vinnie was hyper as hell for his first 2.5 years, then he settled down a good bit. Had a Lab growing up and she was similar but mellowed quicker. Really smart dogs and eager to please.

Pacman box...That's a new one.

If ugly is loud that should be cracking building foundations.

Need some input about some amps

Pretty much a wash on power, but the Audisons will match...If that's worth $600 then go for it. That's a great deal on those amps, BTW. I'd probably buy them for that reason alone. -
Beautimus!

I'm gonna guess that the holes are for voicecoil ventilation and to keep the air under dustcap from affecting the Qms.
-
I guess the good news here is that they are selling well?

Opinion is just that, not my place to say that someone's opinion is wrong. It's just when soneone comes out and says that something sucks, without even an inkling as to why, I get curious at to how they formed that opinion, especially when it is worded as yours was.
-
Wasn't trying to affect your opinion, chill out! I was just curious what you didn't like about them and what speakers you do like. Trying to gauge your tastes, nothing more.
-
Care to quantify that? I've been very pleased with my Eurosports. So much so that I just got a new setup from them. What would you recommend?
-
I have subs from '92. I'm very careful with my stuff.

The car's front drive. Just bent or snapped a bolt or a-arm. Not hard to do when force is applied in a direction for which a component isn't stressed. The truth is probably somewhere between you account and hers. If the light isn't working you know that it's now a 4-way stop right?
-
Plenty of better brands of components, IMO, but it's your opinion that counts for your system. Back in the day I likes the Bostons better than the Quarts, but I liked the a/d/s sets better than both. I liked the old Soundstream reference line as well. In my car now I have the top CDT set from about 3 years ago and the new CDT stuff on the way. As far as their subs go, they sound good. Apparently the Boston subs can get pretty loud, too. Not competition loud but for an SQ sub loud.
-
That driver looks remarkably similar to the CDT HD-2 and ES-02. Wouldn't be suprised if they were essentially the same. I'll let you know how the CDTs sound once I get them installed.

Check this out. A true point source 3-way driver. Be interested in how they sound. http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...16&pid=2201

SQ for subs
helotaxi replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Not an issue you need to concern yourself with. -
Th noise isn't introduced in the RCA. Nothing done to it will have any effect on that noise. Alt whine is an electrical component problem, not a signal path problem. What you're suggesting is akin to replacing the transmision to fix a flat tire.
-
Nicer RCAs aren't going to get rid of whine. Reground the HU and any processors that you have.

You won't ever be able to exactly simulate what happens in the car until you measure the exact transfer function of YOUR car. You can however use a basic enclosure simulator and your understanding of the basics of cabin gain to give you a decent idea of what is going to happen in-car.
