If you lived where it got hot, you'd have thought of nothing else. My Brown Bread deadener has partially liqufied in some areas leaving puddles of goo under my carpet.
  3. It's actually a much better option simply because you don't have to worry about the resistance of the car body getting in the way. I have a 18" piece of 1/0 running from the battery - to the engine block to accomplish the same thing.

    What should i do?

That Alpine unit is actaully really nice and I'm sure you will get several offers/inqueries about buying it if you want to get rid of it. There is an add-on module for it that gives you full iPod integration using the direct audio from the docking cable. No more FM transmitter (:barf:). From there add a decent set of front speakers (worry about the rears later, if at all). Pioneer Revs get lots of recommendations for those on a budget. Find a sub that will do well on the little bit of power from the Octane amp and call it good for now. You should be able to do all that for about $300ish. If you want someting more, can the amp and find some amps that will fit your budget and then add a bigger sub.

    What was your first system?

The first CD player that Panasonic made. Orion XTR-5 and XTR-1S in each front door with a set of passive x-overs salvaged from a Boston Acoustics set that the local shop had done a custom passive setup on. Orion CO230 amp running in 3 channel mode. JL Audio 10W1 (first year they were made and the only component from this setup that I still have)

All in the "10 and under category." They don't know enough to recognize the sound of me racking the slide on the shotgun.

    4 ohm home reciever

I'm looking for cheap. I don't really want something nice, it's going in the garage wihci typically has a layer of sawdust about a half inch thick over most of it. That's the main reason I'm considering used gear is because of price.

    keep xxx for mini?

I can't believe that there was a question here and I'm even more in shock about the route you went...

adding a second sub, but have a question

Theory is 6dB total. 3 for double the cone area on the same power, 3 for double the power. Reality will be somewhat less than that.

    4 ohm home reciever

My CM-1090 didn't have a problem with it at all. I found a Harman Kardon when I was in HS that would have done the job, too but I don't remember the model number. Looking at it, separates might be the way to go for what I really want, anyway. F-mods and a pair of active subs anyone?

    our new ride

Nothing wrong with an auto tranny for a straightline car. Usually a bit quicker once other issues are addressed compared to a manual. It's not like this thing is a real sports car

    stiffer spider = more db's?

A stiffer spider will result in a less efficient sub with a higher Fs. Your subs are now broken in and the response is actually what is was designed to be.

    4 ohm home reciever

I could but me sitting around soldering stuff up isn't going to fly with the wife. Looking on eBay the Adcom stuff might work out even having to buy a preamp/tuner. Any other thoughts?

    4 ohm home reciever

I don't have a preamp. Integrated is good [voice=Forest Gump] 'cause ya know, one less thing [/voice]. The setup will involve my old CDT speakers and probably an XM tuner and/or iPod for a shop radio. SIck of using the radio on the Harley while I'm working in the garage. A big cheap power supply would work, too. I have a matching set of US Amps USA-25s that would be fun on a set of comps and a sub (have the sub, HU and external crossover all sitting around, too). Since it will probably spend it's life in the garage I don't want to get too exspensive or too complex. I'm just getting some ideas at this point. I'll need a new project once I'm "done" with the car.

Apparently one of the other kids pushed him. Knowing what I do of the other kid, it wouldn't suprise me one bit. He's the kind of kid that in the last year has had the cops called on him for spray painting grafitti in the neighborhood on the fences and sidewalks (dumb enough to write his name in every case so it was not a mystery who was responsible) and for throwing rocks at passing cars *IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD*!!! One of the kids hit my buddy's truck with their bike, too, two weeks after he brought it home from the body shop (he pulled out in front of a guy 2 days after he bought it). Took a pretty good section of paint off the fender in his case. I'm concerned about what I will do if they so much as breathe on my wife's new car. I'm pretty sure it will involve a baseball bat or a .45. I'd let the dog have them but he'd just lick them.

Might want to fab up some kind of cover for those fuses.

So I go back outside after posting this and one of the punk kids in my neighborhood has hit my car with his bike. Scratch down to bare metal starting at the rear quarter panel and going all the way to the front of the front door. Nice dent in the rear door in the middle of the scratch. Called the police and they, of course, won't send a car out. I have to go in on Monday and file a report. I guess I'll find out then what recourse I have. Needless to say I'm pretty phucking pissed. There was one scratch on that car up to this point from some inconsiderate prick hitting me with a door. Now I guess I'll at least get that fixed too when they repaint the entire passenger's side of the car.

Like I said above, I've been sick as a dog all week and when I've felt decent the wind has been something else (blowing garbage cans around the neighborhood and knocking over a few small trees). I got a bit done, nonetheless. I got the mids swapped out. The old ones were the ES-600s from a 3 year old CDT Eurosport set. The new midbasses are the new ES-06+ woofers. MMMMMMMMMMM, beefy! New vs. old: I swapped them out in the door pods that I built around Christmas time. The pods are probably going to prove too small but they'll do until I build larger ones that will probably run the length of the lower door. I'll stick the old grills on them once I make a spacer. The missing screws will hold the grills in place. Finally the tweeter pods I built at the same time as the door pods. The tweets are the ES-100s from the same Eurosport set. They're being replaced by a set of the new ES-02 mid/tweet combo drivers. The pods for the new setup will look similar but will be built around a 2" pipe cap that will function as a rear chamber for the mid. I should have the amp rack in tomorrow, just waiting for paint to dry. I'll get the trim panel built at the same time and get it all wired up. That's the goal for the restof the weekend.
  23. Yep it was the standard alt on the first year SRT-4 only. They went to a 135 for the last 3 years of production. The problem with it is the regulator is in the ECU and on a delay measured in seconds. The ECU will kick the RPM up before ramping up the alt output to make sure it doesn't stall the engine. The fan will noticably slow when you use the power windows. I did manage to get no noticable dimming driving around though.
  24. Memphis Mojo 2.5k and MCA-300? The sub amp is what you're after. The mid/high amp is a little less, though not much, than you wanted. Not enough that you'll hear a difference.
