Can you get Mark to add that to the page in the shop? Guess that rules that out...still trying to decide on a sub

    Porting Whoas...

A single 6" port would be just over 5ft long and a pair of 4" would be just under 5ft. That sounds practical...ok probably not.
  3. I'm gonna guess that they told you correctly and either did a poor job of explaining it or you misunderstood what they were saying.

    Porting Whoas...

The Transfer function magnitude can give you a good frame of reference but it isn't going tobe an accurate depiction of the response that you will get in-car becaue it doesn't include cabin gain. WinISD is a very useful tool, but just like any tool you have to know what it can and can't do. The spec boxes for the RL-is are really small which means that you will need a huge port to get the desired low tuning out of them. The port is going to end up being bigger than the box when it's all said and done. Gross volume with the port will end up being around 3 cf.

    Using Router

If I'm doing a through cut, I always use a spiral upcut bit and do it in one steady pass. Reduces end loading on the bit wicht reduces bit flex which extends bit life. Also makes for a nice smooth edge on the cut.

    fuse type

The amps will never draw their fuse rating worth of current. Ignore that number as largely irrelevant. Find out what your amps typically draw. Size your power wire accordingly. From there you can use whatever size fuse you want up to the maximum rating of the wire. No problem with going smaller unless you are blowing smaller fuses. For example the total of my amp fuses was 280A but I ran a 150A fuse on my 1/0 power wire for3 years without a problem because the amp will only draw its fuse rating in current or more under fault conditions and won't come near it under normal conditions.
  9. Mags probably within the next week or two. Still no ETA on the BMs. The JLs will run you $1500 for 3. I've not heard anything particularly good about the Pioneers other than they sound better than the Rockford or Kicker thin mounts. RE makes a series of thin mounts now as well. Haven't heard any reviews on them yet.

i think i wanna buy a hand gun

Let me ask you this, do you expect and rely on the EMTs and paramedics to be present everywhere all the time or do you learn CPR/first aid? Why would you expect the same of the cops? An armed citizen is to crime what a CPR trained citizen is to an injury. Do you have a fire extinguisher handy at your house so the fire fighters have one to use when they get there? Why should a defensive gun be any different? A gun is nothing more than a tool just like a first aid kit or a fire extinguisher. It has no consciousness. It does not make a good person go bad. http://mwkworks.com/onsheepwolvesandsheepdogs.html You can choose to be a sheep. But as a sheep you are beyond foolish to defang the sheepdog because you'll never be able to do the same to the wolf. But I guess in some ways you could be right if a lot of the sheep had their way. If guns were illegal, you could more easily spot the bad guys, they'd be the only ones with the guns. A criminal has already made the decision to break the law, do you think that guns being illegal will keep them from having them? It hasn't stopped the criminals in places like DC and NYC where guns are currently illegal. The only thing it has done it to give the crooks the piece of mind that they don't have to worry about an armed citizen standing up to them.
  11. Really? Where exactly is this EMI coming from? Last time I checked the ignition modules were under the hood. Also last time I chacked the firewall, etc... are effectively a Faraday cage making the interior all but immume to EMI from outside (like the engine compartment is). All the electronics in the cabin of the car are enclosed in their own little Faraday cages and should present, likewise, zero EMI. Compared to the house, sorry the car is quiet. DC vs. AC power. Inside a metal box vs. not. The only noise issues I've ever seen in a car were from poor grounds or damaged components. This is compared to line hum and the like in the home. Actually we're talking about applied electronics as it relates to car audio, but, whatever. And last I checked an antenna actually has to be wired to something in order to do anything. A piece of wire or shield or foil or what have you is not an antenna with both ends in free space...

The problem with using handloads for self defense is that they are a liability when you have to defend yourself in court, both criminal and civil. That's something that you have to consider when you carry; the possible repercussions of having to use the weapon. One properly placed .45 hole is more than enough. You'd have to actually hit the vitals twice with a hard to control gun with your line of thinking. That's also assuming you could get it out of the holster in time to matter in the first place. That's the place for a gun like you're talking about. Not as a normal everyday carry gun. If your dress dictates that or nothing, refer to the first rule of a gunfight: Bring a gun. The .380 is better than nothing in reasonably skilled hands, but would I choose it over a 9mm or .40 or .45 if those were options. Not on a cold day in hell.

Wow, reloading makes you an expert in guns and you have to handload to be a real shooter...ok, whatever. A subcompact pocket pistol is a terrible primary defensive weapon. Period. Chamber it in a sub caliber and you're even worse off. I don't care how reliable it is. I don't care how accurate it is. It's still a little pop gun that's hard to draw, hard to aim, hard to hang on to and hugely ineffective even when you do hit. Sonds like the qualities I'm looking for in something I'm going to potentially trust my life to...
  14. The ferrari to Vette anaolgy works well as it pertains to feeding the thing and fixing it as well. The VLX is a Class A/B and will require a huge battery bank and a good alternator as well. If you cook it you will pay dearly to fix it.

    The Best subwoofer

I didnt know a 13W7 could handle 2000w. I believe thats warranty void lol He's been using it like that for over 2 years Just cause it's hooked to an amp rated at 2kW doesn't mean that the sub has ever seen that amount of power.
  16. Headroom is simply having more power than you need to get as loud as you want. It allows for full dynamic range from the system and it also keeps the amps operating well within their comfort zone so you don't have to worry about approaching clipping or finding the point of rising distortion prior to clipping. You can set it up with judicious use of the volume knob or with conservative gain setting or a combination of the two.

    "Advice"

Moderation, descretion, propriety. Whatever your job is, take pride in doing it well. Know it inside and out. The people that matter will notice. If you don't have the time/money to do something right, you certainly don't have the time/money to do it twice. Pay yourself first. Invest some of every paycheck as soon as you're paid. If you don't ever have the money to spend, you won't miss it. Start early in your life because you can make more money later but you can't make up for lost time accruing interest. It isn't all about you, so get over yourself. I've never lost out by being generous, gracious and honest. Never. There's no reason to sing your own praises. If you're really as good as you think you are, others will sing your praises for you. The choir is easier to hear than the soloist. As a suprvisor, take care of your people and they will take care of you. Lucky men survive their mistakes. Wise men learn from the mistakes of others. The goal should be to be a wise man with lucky friends. Don't do anything that could have consequences that you aren't willing or able to handle. The second part to that is to accept responsibility for your actions and deal with the consequences.

i think i wanna buy a hand gun

Perfect example of why the AR series rifles are not cartried with a round in the chamber. There is no spring on the firing pin and no block for it either. Impact the muzzle of the weapon hard enough and it will discharge from the inertia of the firing pin. Most autopistols are meant to be carried with one in the chamber. For a defensive weapon, you'd almost be stupid not to carry that way. You don't need to carry "cocked and locked" though many weapons are made to be carried that way as well. Whatever condition you carry in needs to be the condition that you practice from. Not just at the range, either. Practice drawing a cleared and empty weapon from your carry rig and readying it to fire (safety off, thumb cock a single action if you carry it hammer down, etc...) No amount of ammo is a replacement for training. If you are not willing to train with your weapon to the point that employing it is second nature, you probably shouldn't be carrying it. You're more a hazzard with it than a help. Your average cop is only marginally qualified to carry a gun. Too few departments empahsize adequate training and when the bullets start to fly that training is what you have to be able to fall back on. Everyone who uses a weapon regularly is scared at that moment. Training is what gets them through it. It's just the same as with any complex task that needs to be performed under stress, repetitve, regular training is essential.

Having worked with a lot of cops, they are some of the worst shots I've ever seen. Most don't practice any more than they are FORCED to. If you want good data based on guys that actually train with their weapons look at SWAT and the LAPD SIS. SWAT usually hits with 90% of their shots and SIS with 95%. More ammo is still no substitute for training and becomes something of a crutch if you think about it that way.

For my hands, the thing i care most about is the shortened slide. With the ones on that list I'd probably consider adding a grip extender and running full size mags. One of the big ones that I forgot off that list is the Sig 250. It's probably the front runner at this point. I'll fondle a few and make my choice on that one once I get home.Yeah, I'll give the Smith 1911 (and the SIG) a look as well. I haven't put down a budget on the new 1911 yet but the longer I can put it off, the higher the budget will be. There is also the matter of my ARs to be purchased as well...DPMS LR-204 for a varmint gun. Another lower with a pair of uppers; one a Stag most likely or another brand that runs a Wylde chamber in .223/5.56 and a Kotonics in 6.8SPC.

The SR9 is not on the short list, actually. It's a gun that I'm buying. The short list is for another gun in addition to the SR9. Planning on buying several before the end of the year. The short list is currently for gun 2 (compact 9mm): Taurus 24/7, S&W M&P and Springfield xD compact. The short list for the 3rd gun (newer 1911): Taurus PT1911, STI Tactical and a couple of different Kimbers. .357 SIG is a necked down .40 using a 9mm projectile. Ballistics are almost exactly like the .357 Mag. It had some real growing pains as well. The first company that made ammo for it almost killed the cartidge before it ever got off the ground. They had a serious problem with case ruptures and had to recall all the ammo on the market leaving a group of consumers with weapons and no ammo for them.

    Woofer parameter tester

Horizontal should be more consistent because the weight of the cone won't cause the suspension to sag. For the delta-mass method, once you have a known wieght to work with, stick it to the cone with a control piece of Blu-Tac (i.e. weigh the Blu-Tac and keep the same piece for future use).

    For those that know...

Most of them are self important cluebags. They have no concept of what's really going on but think that they run the place wherever they happen to be and that everyone should kiss their ass.
