i think i wanna buy a hand gun

Only see that being an issue if I fully disassemble it every time I shoot it. Hell I had to knock the shit out of it with a rubber mallet (which is what the manual said to do) to get the grip frame separated from the barrel. I don't see much benefit to tearing it all the way down often and the fit is metal on metal.

i think i wanna buy a hand gun

Finally got out to the desert yesterday afternoon. Ran easily 200 rnds through the .22, 2 mags through the M&P and 66 rnds through the SR9. The wife really liked the .22 which is why I bought it in the first place. Once she's more comfortable with that we'll move her up to a real gun. She fired about 5 rounds through the M&P and didn't like it, but she was really timid with the .22 at first as well. She'll come around. She quit shooting when the wind started to pick up. I really need to practice more. I put every round in a mag into an old propane cylinder at around 25yds with the SR9 but I used to be able to hit clays at that range consistently. By the time we left I was getting pretty good with the .22 at range with 75% of my shots hitting a 10" target at 40+yds. Had fun chasing cans in the wind with it, it's a real bitch to hit a moving soda can outside of 25 yds with a handgun! I might go out again this afternoon but I really need to get the new HU in the truck so we'll have DVD and XM for the drive to FL at the end of the week.

I also ended up with a Ruger. Mk III 22/45 Target model for me. Different grip angle to closely match the 1911 angle. The more I looked into the Mosquito the more bad things I heard about jamming. Sad for a company known to make some of the most reliable pistols on the market. I've yet to hear anything good about the Walthers either. Similar jamming issues. Seen threads on other websites on how to make them shoot reliably but not something that I really want to deal with for a gun purchased for enjoyable and reliable shooting. I think that .45 was $30 or $35 for 100rds WWB at Walmart here. Found a gunsmith to take care of media blasting. Should have the frame back on Wed. After that I'll have her back together as soon as my Brownell's order comes in. I'll need to fit the new grip safety and thumb safety and then coat the gun and get her back together. Should look and handle a far cry different when I'm done.

    Mixing Batteries...bad idea?

Unless you clamped the draw with peak hold on, you have no idea what it draws. You can sit and try to calculate all day and that means jack. Also, if it makes more power at 14v (and most do) it probably draws considerably more current at 14 than at 12V.

    box design program for mac

Find one of the Excel spreadsheets floating around out there. Probably about as good as you can get without using a windows emulator.
  7. Memphis has a series of full range Class D amps as well that are very similar to the JLs. The JLs and the Alpines use different technology (same concept, different approach)

Winchester white box is only $30 per 100 rnds at Wally world. If my 1911 wasn't in pieces right now I'd pick some up. Probably will still pick some up. Ammo prices are only climbing with the price of copper. I quit buying Blazer unless I can't find anything else. Eventually I'll start relaoding so I usually collect my brass. Can't reload the Blazer Al cases. Bass Pro had Hornady JHP for $17/25 for .45 and $18/25 for 9mm. Got 4 boxes of each last night. Going back today to pick up a plinking gun. Trying to decide between the SIG Mosquito or a S&W 22A. The S&W is a standard .22 target pistol complete with full length optics rail. The SIG is built on the same platform as all the normal SIG handguns so I think it would make a better practice pistol. Need to find someone local to sand blast my 1911 frame so I can Gun Kote it. Replacing a lot of the wear items and bringing it away from GI spec a bit. Replacing the trigger, the mainspring and housing, the grip safety, the sear spring and adding an ambi safety. Been shooting so long left handed with a right handed gun that working the safety on the SR9 the correct way has taken some getting used to. Got new grips for it last night. Pachmayr rosewood panels with the rubber grip panel that wraps across the front strap. They look really nice. Much nicer than the cheap plastics that came with the gun. Need to finalize my Brownells order with all my parts.

    Thinking about buying a boat

I'd have a small john boat if I lived somewhere I could use it. Lake Mead is too rough for a small boat and I don't enjoy the kind of fishing it offers. You don't need insurance. Just registration for the boat and a tag for the trailer. Neither are very expensive anywhere I've ever lived. Don't forget the Coast Guard mandated safety items (paddle, flotation, signaling devices, etc...)

I thought that UGA had one of the best teams (if not THE best team) in the country last year at the end. BUT, if you can't win your conference, you shouldn't be able to play for the national title. There may not be a national tournament but there are conference championships. That was the only argument that Michigan fans would listen to 2 yrs ago when it came to why they shouldn't get a rematch against OSU for the title. The fact that their team wasn't that good (reiterated in the bowl game that they did go to) was lost on them. Conferences like the SEC where you have a lot of really strong teams every year kinda get the shaft from the BCS compared to conferences that have only one or two teams that are pretty good. You could have justified putting an SEC team in pretty much every one of the BCS bowls last year. Instead they get penalized for having a large strong conference and average teams get the nod because they were #2 in a third-rate, over-hyped conference.

Finally got the truck last night. In addition to the extra $500 off (bringing the price I paid below invoice before the $2500 rebate from Nissan) I also got the rear windows tinted, pinstripes and daytime running lights for $0. Didn't care about the stripes or the lights, though the stripes look really good, but the tint saved me some real $$$ and a trip to a shop. Now I just need an alarm and to get the install going... And Mark, no, she wasn't attractive.

Don't worry they'll still end up in the top 5 at the end of the year because even though USC will pound them into the ground it's early enough in the season that it will be forgotten at the end mainly because they will play only one close game against another mediocre (and way overrated) team the rest of the season. Meanwhile the truly good teams wil play other good teams and might lose a game or two during the season. The result is that a mediocre team with inflated preseason ranking and an easy schedule can play for the national championship just about every year. OSU has proven that the last two years. One of the main things that I hate about using polls for ranking is that they can ignore whatever they want to. Later games carry more weight than early games. The SEC automatically gets discriminated against because of the preponderance of sports writers from the NE, midwest and LA areas. You know that OSU will start every year in the top 10. So will USC. Notre Dame somehow ends up ranked to start every season even though they haven't had a decent team in years. You can just about look at the preseason rankings and the schedules of the ranked teams and figure out who is going toplay for the national championship. The only thing that ever has a chance of upsetting this is a surprise win over one of these teams by one of the "pushovers" that they used to pad their schedule. Think Appalacian State. Too bad that couldn't have happened later in the season. I think it might have changed the whole end of year rankings rather than being forgotten by the end of the season. I'm of the opinion that a playoff, while preferable isn't realistic in college football, but the polling system and especially the BCS system is so broken that just about anything is better. The fact that they limit bowl bids to certain conferences tells you right there that system is hugely biased. Now given Hawaii did not help the case for changing that last year.
  13. That's an ignorant statement if I've ever heard one. NOTHING? Not true in the least bit. Details ? I'm curious of the possible benefit There's only one. It can mask the noise floor of a noisy preamp. It can't make the amp run cooler because the relative position of the gain dial has no bearing on that at all. It can't make the am produce more power if the preamp voltage of the HU is already enough to drive the amp to full output. The only purpose is hiding noise. If you have an outboard EQ, you really don't need one because every decent EQ that I know of has a line driver built in. The problem with adding one if you don't need it is that you run the risk of creating a ground loop and inducing more noise intot he system every time you add another component to the signal chain. A basic understanding of how amp gains and the gain structure of a system work would tell you that a line driver isn't some kind of magic box and has no place in pretty much any system that uses quality components. If you want to disagree, explain what it actually does that is of tangible benefit to the system. Unless you are experiencing noise that decreases with gain setting, a lower gain is not inherently better. If lower gain was automatically better, they would be less sensitive in the first place.

Ohio State gets overrated every year by the sports writers. Their strength of schedule is a joke every year. Who cares if they end with a good record, they don't play anyone and are in a hugely overrated conference. I'd like to see them try to play an SEC schedule and see how they end the year.
  15. That's an ignorant statement if I've ever heard one. NOTHING? Not true in the least bit. For 99% of people out there with a modern HU there is nothing to be gained by running a line driver. The HU puts out more than enough voltage to drive an amp to full power. As long as there's not noise at the gain setting required to get full power from the amp, the line driver does zip. The main reason that you get noise is a crappy preamp section in the amp. Input impedance doesn't affect preamp voltage. Voltage and impedance are totally independent.

    Bigfoot body found!!

If the area is too wooded a GPS won't be able to get satelite signal.... Wooded is usually not nearly enough. My old one worked great in downtown Tokyo among the several hundred foot buildings. Worked just fine under a forest canopy where you couldn't see the sky. A good GPS receiver will work almost perfectly anywhere on the planet
  17. That is the one thing that a line driver will actually help with. But seriously, with the HU set correctly there should be more than enough voltage to keep you from excessively amplifying the thermal noise from the RCAs. With a good amp it doesn't become much of an issue anyway. You can pretty well max the gain and just barely hear a tiny bit of hiss on a zero data track.

Technique can go a long way toward working the action. She using an overhand grip with the fingers and palm or a pinch grip with the thumb and side of the index finger? A 9mm will have a lighter recoil spring usually; I'm assuming that you knew that though. But, other than working jams, which shouldn't happen with a gun you're trusting for defense, there isn't another reason I can think of to work the slide in a defensive situation.

Most of us totally agree with using a good bigger sub for SQ.

i think i wanna buy a hand gun

The USP was replaced a few years ago. The replacement is basically the same gun still. I completely agree with keeping a shotgun for home defense, in fact I have one. If the sound of the pump action gong doesn't scare them off, you're gonna need to use the gun, too. The only problem with a shotgun is where to keep it that it will be handy should you need it. It doesn't exactly fit in the nightstand. I started off with an air gun as well. The first real gun I ever owned was the 20 ga that I still have. There's only one way to learn about guns and that's to be around them. Nothing wrong with wheelguns, but they're really not any more practical than autos. dem beats- where are you finding larger caliber ammo for $.44 a round. Even surplus 5.56 in bulk is over $.50 a round here locally. Other than .22LR that's usually the cheapest rifle ammo out there.

Bigger cone means less excursion for a given output. That means that the sub stays in its most linear region. There's a reason that most SQ competitors use several large subs. I'd love to "hurry up" but the dealer "forgot" to initiate the transfer of my truck. It was supposed to have been in Vegas before I got home with me taking delivery on the 12th. I called them for the three days leading up to the delivery date and the girl I'd been working with was out sick and no one else seemed to have a clue what was going on. I finally got ahold of someone who had an answer the day I was supposed to pick it up. The answer was that the transfer never happened and that they were working it right then. Another 3-5 days. I've been assured that it will be there tomorrow (day 6 of the 3-5). What started as 5-7 days has become 18.
