Planning/parts gathering for my Ram Mega Cab build.

Aaron, what part of MD are you in? I'm not up to speed with everyone, what are you running? -
Which SSA sub(s) should I grab during this sale? (box dimensions inclu
Dave88LX replied to Dave88LX's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Original budget I had figured my box was going be in the +/- $150-$200 range. Original thought for a pair of subs was ~$200-$250 each. If I went with a single, then I could use the extra money for a "better" sub, more amp, etc. ICON 12s are $274 right now, a pair would be "doable", although on the higher end of the budget. Just want to do what's right the first time. Sounds good, I'll go check it! -
I have more space, Mega Cab...but not sure what to buy either.

Well damn! I know you're swamped...been trying to get a hold of you LOL.

I too wanted to hear one. Nobody has one local. They MSRP at about $1200, but can be had for $10xx. Not a gamble I'm willing to take. -

Thanks Aaron! Bob, thanks for your "non-expert input!" I do want to hear a "new" 15 just to quell any misconceptions I may have. -
Perfect answer, thank you! I've had more than a few people tell me that "Those Focals will sound SIKKKKKK if you run 'em active bro!" I'm thinking I probably won't even hear the difference. If I had the amp capability, and would benefit, then I'd consider it; but if not, which it sounds like not, then no sense in doing the extra work.
-
I don't know, everyone always seems to want to run their component set "active". I don't understand it completely. To me it means running the woofer and tweeter of their own separate amp channel. What am I missing? On a related note, WTF....I could have stopped by Laurel on the way home from work and picked this thing up.
-
*should* be here today. I jumped on the amp because I was told it was a good deal. Initially I was going to run my Focal 165 V30's in passive mode off a 2 channel amp. Is this a good amp to run active with? Or should I just keep it passive?

Started side-tracking a thread with Mr. Bob, so I'm dragging it back over here. It's been a good many years since I got the parts and built it so I don't remember the specifics, but basically a high compression N/A 383. Only was able to get it to the track once last year. Pep Boys Z-rated tires from 2002, mail-order tune, stock shifter, stock suspension, "granny shifted" etc., ran a 12.8 @ 114 MPH. Hoping with a couple small changes, like oh, traction, a tune, I can get it to dip into the 11s. Couple pics. No exciting videos, sorry. But, at least you can see it runs now...LOL

Thanks for posting! Here's mine. 60-foots are killing me. 1.6 60's are hookin!!!

Me? If so, yes, I am. Not much lately, but have been. I'm told I have the MPH to run 11's, if not damn close. I still think there is some MPH left in it too once I get the aforementioned things squared away! I'm not sure what I want to do for tires. I have a POS 10-bolt in here, and I've "heard" that slicks are actually easier on your rear end because of the "crinkling" action absorbing some of the shock load that would otherwise be transferred to the weak parts of the rear end. I don't know how much truth there is to that though.
-
Still haven't gotten mine yet...not sure what gives.
-
I think so too. I have an MGW shifter I need to install. Hell I had 100 lbs of baby seats in the back of it too when I made my pass, along with the spare tire. Literally no race prep. I want to get it dynotuned, get some proper tires, get the shifter installed, and then see where I am at with it. Haven't touched the suspension either. You are a sick man! Why would you torture yourself with an LT1! I think they meant well, but that cam-driven optispark-behind-waterpump fiasco...bleh. That reminds me. I bought a Dynaspark to run with my Delteq, and the first two Dynasparks had no output. Have a 3rd, hoping this one finally works.
-
And yeah, still have the Mustangs, and picked up a '90 Vert too.
-
What looks cheap about it? (I haven't seen it in person yet).
-
Hey guys. Just noticed the amp is sold out online, bummer! Hope mine gets here soon. ...I'll split off a thread into the general forum after I get the kids down.

Haha, thanks for the pennies! I haven't heard a 15 in at least 12 years, no lie! I'm sure the cheap 15s I heard then don't compare to the 15s of today. I really need to listen to some local! And, in all honesty, I haven't heard anything that couldn't be bought at Sears or Best Buy. -

Sent! And thank you! -
Yessir, that is I. I stopped posting there pretty much over the last year after they were bought out by that Canadian company, went to shit, and everyone started posting elsewhere. Who are you there? Holy shiznit, it is you lol. I'm "Bobo" there and pretty much every forum, think that name was already taken here though. I don't post there or any Mustang forums much though. I still have a Stang and just did a Trick Flow h/c/i on it, can't get it totally out of my system and really don't want too...just had to learn moderation. Probably gonna be blowing more money on systems instead I guess. I remember you from way back when, maybe late 90's. I'm remember you being funny as fuck lol and always posting interesting stuff. I don't know if you'd remember me, I was more of a lurker I guess. I think you were on TurboMustangs.com some? I was there too. Good to hear from ya! Holy crap, what's up man! Yeah of course I remember you, and those other turboclowns Snipe, Nestromo and the rest of the bunch. Oh, and your best friend Dean! I haven't posted on TM in a long time. I do still have the car, the 351W, the turbo kit, just all still in boxes. I did get the Firebird to the track though finally! With two kids now though, my playtime is severly limited. Oh...man, yeah I'm not funny anymore; I'm just a grumpy arseho who yells at everyone to get off my lawn. Good to see you too dude. I have a thread over in the Newbie section about my truck...that's what's going on here.
-
It's a hybrid, so it's really loud! Plus, I need to do like 2 or 3 layers. No, really though, I was going to use whatever I needed in the Civic, and start on the rest in the truck. That was before I read this. Hoping this new line is better than the old.

Seen a lot of them in San Angelo, TX.

That's a good point too that had crossed my mind! If I'm only going to do one, that leaves a little money on the table to put into a better single. Good advice, thanks. -
The bolded statements: I haven't heard about/read this anywhere else in all the research I've been doing. Not saying it's wrong by any means, just a first time I've seen it.Is there much truth in that/been proven/verified anywhere? Thanks. - Dave
