so its "safe" to play below tuning(to the point where another woofer would bottom out) with the full 1.5kw, just not good? not that i'm intentionally gonna try it, i just wanna know if its safe playing music at full tilt with no subsonic thanks for the info guys :boink:

sorry to keep you waiting, had a bit of a prob getting the box design, but its now here in front of me, box building should commence on tues, and hopefully finish by thurs, gonna have to squeeze the building process in in between work will report back when its done
-
i've switched the subsonic off, its suprisiing on some tracks when you feel a low rumble down from about 16-18hz upwards! try it! its very cool!

i've been running my magnum with about 800w for the last couple weeks, and its just dying for more power. i am having a new box designed, and i was thinking of buying a 1500bd. now obviously i dont wanna wire the sub to 4ohm, as i will have the same power as now, but i wanna wire it to 1ohm, so im looking at 1600w rms+ (assuming the amp is fine at 1ohm, which i've heard it should be) i will probably have it scoped and setup the gains so it makes around 1.5k which i think is reasonable for a daily drive what i wanna know is what is the maximum i can give it for a daily drive? i probably wont risk anything over 1.5k, but is anyone running more than that?? thanks in advance

its a 2002 model, unmodded.. i will be putting a voltmeter in soon, so i will know for sure if it WAS the voltage..
-
dude, the amp was cold it only ran into probs as i drove home in the rain with the wipers going and the headlamps and fan on(to demist windows) i have run amps at a lower than rated impedance before, and had no probs
-
the amp itself is fine at 1ohm its just the power supply that wont keep up!!

F*CKING HELL guys! just hooked it up, and its one of the loudest single sub setups i've EVER EVER heard! especially in a big 4x4/SUV vehicle! to say i'm impressed is an understatement! and the mag is not even near its limits, even with no subsonic! i'm guessing i'm running about 1.7k into it only problem is the charging system is completely stock, and completly inadequate, the amp will shut down, and if you push it too hard too long, just before it shuts down it'l make the front of sound all crackly, so i'm assuming the voltage is dropping down to very bad levels lol! just waiting for the new box, and hoping to break 140 on the termlab mics, with my personal best being 135.9db so far(which i managed with a RE SE12, in a 1.8cu ft box, and 1.25kw), which has far been exceeded, although i've not metered it yet

i should be recieving the design back this week for my bandpass box, so gimme about a week to build it and have a listen, and i'l report back :ugh:
-
does it shut down? maybe your voltage is dropping too low? or does it overheat? what about if you turn down the gain? i will probably not draw any more than 1500w rms out of it after scoping, as i dont wanna run into probs as i'm running a stock charging system!

hehe hows it sounding in an IB setup?
-
just to clarify, i meant a Rockford fosgate 1500bd, not one of them hifonics 1500d's or whatever they are called i'm quite excited about getting it! might be putting it in a bandpass box too!(which should be tuned for SQ, as well as streetbass) and although most bandpass boxes i've heard sound like ass, the guy designing it is a genius and i dont mean myself lol
-
i'm running mine with 800w and its crazy
-
its good to hear they didnt get anything.. theives should be tyed up by their balls
-
just interested to know how it performs? and is it possible?

the box was never specifically designed for the magnum. its a temporary box for running the sub in while the new one is designed and built i was actually told to try the sub in this box, and it is still a very impressive sub, it is as controlled and tight as a sealed! but still able to drop(although not as much as i'd like) i did have an SE12 in the same box, and it dropped like hell. it works very well as an sq box, but for a bass-head box, it lacks a little low end as for amg, here is the site http://members.lycos.co.uk/efmax/amg.htm , i have heard his own install, and spoke to many others who have had boxes built by him, and he is VERY respected over here when it comes to all things about enclosures

its sitting in a 1.7cu ft box tuned to around 32hz cant wait to wire it up tommorow morning!!! how long do i have to wait till it beds in?? woohoo! im so excited
-
no idea its being designed by AMG designs.. as soon as i find out, i will let you know i am impressed with how tight and accurate it is, and how seamlessly it blends with the frontstage..
-
its only about 7-800w.. i've had a listen now, and its an impressive peice of equipment.. a little dissapointed with the dropping ability at the moment, but hopefully when it runs in a little more, it should be ok a new box is on the way too
-
damn! you poor guys! i've never heard of anything like that happen here in the UK!! a passing copper might tell you to turn it down, but i've never heard of anyone getting fined for a loud install! maybe they are too lazy to do the paper work if they book someone lol
-
will a 12" magnum be ok with around 1.4k for music? what about for full on bass tracks? how much power are you guys giving them?
-
i have just killed an SE after a dodgy binding post causing the amp to send 850w to a single coil! and im considering a 12 SI magnum. bearing in mind, the SE12 was receiving 1250w rms, and did 135.9(termlab) in an SUV in a 1.8cu ft box tuned to 30hz. what can i expect from an magnum running off 850w rms?? i have been told they are efficient? but are they efficient enough to out do the SE the SI will go in a similar if not the same box. what can i expect? SPL and SQ wise? what sort of box would suit it best? thanks in advance
-
what sort of box would you reccomend? for an LSQ/streetbass application. maximum size i can go for is around 2.5cu ft before displacements. i would prefer ported.
-
i wouldnt call my self an SQ boy, but i do like my music to be listenable, and not have major peaks or troughs in the response. the SE was a little boomy when in SQ mode, and i'm confident the SI will sound better overall. i suppose i am mainly wondering which will be louder, both to the ear, and to the mic. mic is probably more important, as i've heard many installs that 'seem' to be louder than mine, but that is only because they peaked higher. i like my bass very low, down to the shakey stuff thats not audible. i realise both subs are worlds apart, i was just wondering what to expect thank you for the input guys, much appreciated EDIT: again, i realise it is hard to guess SPL output, and i hate when some else asks that question, but what about in a straight swap situation? same car, same box etc, but 1200w for the SE, and 800w for the mag? any ideas? or too close to call?
-
anyone got any input? cheers
