Standing waves in SQ and SPL installations
Mark replied to Aaron Clinton's topic in Advanced Discussion
To my knowledge, in order for the reflection of a wave to occur, it must first develop to 1/4 wavelength. At 80hz, 1/4 of a wavelength is 3.52 feet. In a subwoofer application, standing waves are essentially impossible due to the sheer distance required for the wave form to develop. Midbass and midrange drivers are a different story, however. -

How will reflections occur when it requires 1/4 wavelength development in order to do so? 80hz = 3.52' . Standing waves are more of an issue elsewhere on the frequency spectrum. Or has the 1/4wavelength theory been thrown out the window as of late? I'd heard rumblings of such things, but never any documented evidence to support it. -

15 D2 availability?/stealth audio plans
Mark replied to allConfused's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I'm making a 15" D2 out of paper mache and old Christmas ornaments. You're more than welcome to buy it from me for $350 shipped. I can't promise that it's functional, though. Or that it resembles a subwoofer. -
Dude, you gotta chrome out that former and coil. It's all about the bling. That would be mad-tight yo.

what do you guys know about he new H2 Orions?
Mark replied to Mark LaFountain's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Similar to the Brahma, but to a lesser extent. In sacrifice of motor strength, linearity remains flatter over a wider range. The Brahma's BL is relatively low as well, just flat. -
Headroom is way overrated in the car audio market lately... You just don't need 250-watts RMS on a midbass driver for anything unless it's 70 dB efficient Won't hurt anything, but you are burning money at that point. I like massive amps as much as anyone, but it's kinda wasteful. Power is dirt cheap nowdays. Smart shoppers can get away with a 1000W front stage without breaking the bank. Don't listen to Mojo, though. He's side biased and has no stage or imaging. All the power in the world won't fix that :boink:

Lower that Qtc boy Too much peak for SQ...deaden the living crap out of your truck and break out the Bessel alignment Nothing like transient perfect if you have a low enough noise floor.

Lewd pictures of myself posing with waterfowl. But they're tasteful. Not those hardcore waterfowl pictures you hear so much of.

Send me your old crappy subs and I'll give you $1 off per driver you purchase. Sound good?

I notice how you attributed my name with the word "sexier" I like that. Because it's true. And what are you insinuating? Are you telling me you want more 'artistic' pictures of myself? If so, you're in luck. I've just finished another compilation which I call "Mark and waterfowl in symphony #6". Fish bore me now. Waterfowl is where the money is. :boink:

Wow...no wonder you spend so much time on the internet. With a face like that I can't blame you. Were those girls blind, or did they just have heat stroke? :boink: <--Implimentation of my new best friend. Mr Boink.

Aladdin? Do you have children? If not, you're as lame as I am. Because I own that movie. And I'm 22 years old. And I have no kids.

awww, it's cute give it a name Like...Jiggy, but with more attitude. $.25 to the first one who tells me where that's from.

They were made for off axis response. You should get no performance increase by mounting them in kick panels (this is a conversation Dan and I had before, and this is what he told me).

Welcome aboard. [Agent Smith]You'll like being one of us Mr Anderson[/Agent Smith]

For my listening tastes the tweeter is suberb, laid back with plenty of detail. Midbass is quite impressive, although the surround and installation has caused plenty of people (novice and otherwise alike) difficulties. I used to make 12awg trim rings to remedy the problem, which they seem to have done.

You know it

Yyyyeah. Signed up again after my SSAudio leave of absense. I'm back, and in monochrome colour! -Bill Lumberg :boink: That is the greatest emoticon of all time. I perform this motion more often than is logically possible.
