using roofing material for sound deadening
Dr Durden replied to philsteroni's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Rattles are usually caused by surfaces coming and contact with each other. What you want is to mechanically isolate/decouple them using foam or something lightweight. Asphalt-based products like you find in the roofing sections of hardware stores aren't "deadening" products, they just look like them. As suggested, they are not worth your time or money...nor is any asphalt-based material that actually is market to the car audio crowd as "deadener." For every reply you see online were someone says "peal-n-seal is all you need, don't waste your money on expensive stuff," you'll also going to hear "peal-n-seal was the worst gooey disaster I've ever had to deal with in my life and I will never buy it again." Point is: pony up and do it right the first time. -
www.noisedead.com/vbp Actually, I know why they do it....I just can't stand it. Pisses me off as well. You're telling me!!!! {censored}

And where exactly are these results?? Your "review" was a nice price comparison, but reeks heavily of a sales pitch, to me. It would have been nice if you actually installed the product and left your feedback. John Owner, Vertex Mobile Sound Products

If I do, it will be the same 3 I've always offered and more. I'll re-evaluate after the summer, but for now my stock is sold out. Sorry to dump on this tread. I saw my work being referenced and had to say something.

And word to the wise, products like OverKill and Ensolite are not even close to being in the same level as LLP or VBP. 1/8" closed cell foam probably has an overall STC of about 3~5.

Of Vertex Barrier Pad?? I'm sold out and don't intend on offering it any longer. It's cool dudes, Ant and I sell the same product. He sells it by 2' sheets (24" x 54" = 9sqft) and I sell it by 5' sheets (60" x 54" = 22.5 sqft). Therefore, the specs are the same. It's a quality product and you'll get great results.

Must be a different Vertex, so no that's not me.

Looks like you just copied an pasted the data from my website???? Where are Anthony's figures??? Also, STC and STL are not exactly the same thing. John Vertex Mobile Sound Products

Gain setting?
Dr Durden replied to pinkfloydms's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I use a DMM and I'm not stupid. A gain knob is a voltage pentometer. Unless you can hear voltage or below 5% THD, then there ain't nuttin' stupid 'bout no DMM. What you talkin bout Willis? A DMM is useful IF you have an occiliscope...or if you're using two amps to drive ONE speaker. Otherwise, just use your ears. If your ears don't work, and you can't tell if the subs are too loud or too soft...or you cant determine that you have to crank the HU to get any real output...you need more help than a DMM can give you. Perhaps you were sick the day level matching was discussed in class? -

To stop rattles (ie two pieces of plastic or metal from hitting each other) then you can use anything like weather stripping, non-hardening modeling clay, etc. If you want to stop plasitc or metal from vibrating, you need to mass load it (add weight). Peal and seal can help, but there are problems associated with it. 1) it stinks and doesn't stick all that well (unless its on the floor) 2) it's light and thin 3) by the time you get enough of it on there to have a significant effect, you can buy RAAMmat instead. If you want to kill sound transmission (road noise) then you need a barrier. The carpet you mentioned would do the trick here. I have 150ft^2 of synthetic carpet padding in my car and it worked great. It's the same stuff they use in cars. Looks like horse hair.

Hi, I'm a new member and need your help. I have my extreme SQ system all planned out and just need to make the connections between everything. My budget for wire is about $1000 and $1500 for RCA cables. I want the really good SQ ones so my amps can really deliver well. I don't want to loose any of my SQ along the way. Please recommend the best withing my budget and post links if you have them. Oh, and here's my system: Dual HU (with the enhansed dolphin backflip mod) Pyle 7-way 6x9 coaxials (x6) Rampage 18" Superslammer 2000's (x4) in a 26cuft ported tuned to 19hz Audison Thesis HV Venti (x2) ~ fronts and rear doors, vertically biamped Brax Graphic 2000.2 (x2) ~ bridged to rear deck, vertically biamped Zapco C2K 9.0x *30th Anniversary Ed* (x8) ~ one on each coil

Dude, but you should see the backflip action though!! Anyway, I think I'm going to save my money and go with lamp cord and Rat Shack RCA's. That money would probably be better spent on a dash rebuild for a line array of my 7-way 6x9's!!

I just intalled my system and wanted to say hello to my new SSA comrades. Here it is. I really wanted to focus on the sound of my EXTREME SQ amps... Dual HU (with the enhansed dolphin backflip mod) Pyle 7-way 6x9 coaxials (x6) Rampage 18" Superslammer 2000's (x4) in a 26cuft ported tuned to 19hz Audison Thesis HV Venti (x2) ~ fronts and rear doors, vertically biamped Brax Graphic 2000.2 (x2) ~ bridged to rear deck, vertically biamped Zapco C2K 9.0x *30th Anniversary Ed* (x8) ~ one on each coil What do you think? Does anyone know where I spend the rest my budget on wire and interconnects? I have about $2500 and really want the good SQ ones. Thanks and God bless.... Dr Durden
-
Well I will do a high quality, extreme SQ install. I really want my SQ amps to shine and I know my 7-way 6x9's will really show them off. Now I just need to get the right wires. I'm thinking rhodium plated silver or amalgamated copper wound elemental titanium? I just want the extreme LSQ. '
-
I smell a turd. You ladies need to lighten up. Seriously though, how about that set up eh?? LMAO!!!
-
Well I still need to get the wires. I need you guys to recommend the good SQ ones. I figure $1000 for the speaker wire and about $1500 for the RCA's. I like the Electromedia ones, but I'm not too sure about the thermal ratings on that third layer of the shielding. Plus the ultra low ESR specs seem a bit off. Thanks for all the help. I think I've come to the right place.
-
Hmmm, well it sounds good. I do want the extreme SQ though. Should I switch to Jensen speakers then? Where do I put the front stage? On my dash? THanks for the reply. I'm new, as you know.

2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V: Project Spec-SQ
Dr Durden replied to ANeonRider's topic in Build Logs
Yea, that guy's a dick! So when do I get a sample some of that M Powa? When I added the relay, I got good results. But when I switched to the P9 combo, everything went silent. I never thought silence could sound sooooooooooo good!
