    Brooksies L8's in the doors

Dood, Brooksie...you've extended your comprehensive coverage to include the passenger's side windows, right?

    Are there any reviews?

Generally speaking.....(God save me for using these silly terms).... SEAS mag cones: precise, clinical, lively, transparent Legatia paper cone: robust, snappy, full, edgy The RT27f is pretty good off axis. My personal favorite for A pillar monting (up to 45-60* off axis). They did a nice job with the Sonotex dome in that it can play loud and very clear and still not "spit." I keep going back to them as a reference. On the down side, they are not the most "natural" sounding tweeters out there. I think the d2904/6000 is better in that department. The L1 is a nice tweeter, but it's no Lotus. I think you pay a bit extra for a compact dome with a chambered-back, but you also get better distortion performance as well. This is where the L1Pro comes in. Personally, if you do run the L4, I see no need to put the Pro in as they can play up to 8-10k quite well.

    Front Stage 3 Way Setup

Agreed. The L8 isn't a sub and I highly doubt you'll get away with it as one. Dave Brooks has 100 L8's in his car....heheh...just kiding, he has 10. BUT, he still uses a SUB woofer. Impact in the 200 hz reigion is one thing, but you cannot replace that desired low extension rumble at 40 hz from the cone of a sub with a mid woofer. Experimentation is a must, but I don't think tweeters on axis is going to sound that great.

    Front Stage 3 Way Setup

The best simply doesn't exist. HAT offers some highly capable speakers for the money, though. For the price and service...and the performance, they are hard to beat. I've found them to be pretty plug and play friendly. I think one if the reasons why people say Hybrid drivers sound "amazing" is because they were designed to play in a car by a very experienced installer and tuner of car audio systems. ScanSpeak drivers can sound "amazing" too, but you need to work with them more because they are not designed for car audio. I've had entire HAT and Scan 3-way systems up front (including mixing them together), and what it boiled down to for me was install skills and personal preference.

I know, but what are the actual figures?? How much? Great video. I'm very detail oriented and would love to see what the product is exactly doing in your test. Something like LLP is less expensive than buying twice the amp power, probably.

No, I'm talking about CCF on it's own. A decoupled barrier like LLP is to a lead wall as something like 1/8 CCF is to sheet rock in terms of block-ability. Search: spring mass barrier. That's what LLP is. The foam is NOT there to absorb noise, it's there to mechanically isolate [decouple] the mass layer from the substrate. One thing the foam does do in terms of TL is to add a slight amount of weight to the barrier (~ .3 lbs/ft). Going from a single wall barrier (MLV alone) to a double wall barrier (LLP, for ex) will get you an additional 18 dB of TL above the resonant frequency. Gotta appreciate how SS supports their products, don't you...................................................................?

According to the laws of physics (1/4 wavelenght theory, more specifically) that would be about 10k hz and above. Ever listened to a 10k tone? You're reaching the limit of audibility of the human ear. Closed cell foam can't absorb sound. Stop buying fairy tales and snake oil.

Heavy stuff blocks noise, think of it that way. How massive is closed cell foam? Mass Law: http://irc.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/pubs/cbd/cbd239-print_e.html As you can see, you can predict the ability of any material to block [refract] sound with the equation mentioned. Plug in the numbers for 1 sq ft of LLP at 250 hz and see what you get. Then do the same for 1 sq ft of Ensolite at the same frequency. What does 1/8" do for transmission loss at 250 hz? Nothing. You cannot possibly fit enough layers of 1/8" closed cell foam in your car for it do anything at that frequency band. Filter? Yea, it's a filter for the dollars in your bank account. Math is fun.

Hate to say it, but 2 layers of wimpy Ensolite is not even comparable to something like LL or LLP. The transmission loss of LLP, for example, at 250 hz (pretty much dead center of the "road noise' band) is 18 dB. TL of 1/4" Ensolite closed cell foam is probably 3 dB if you're lucky. Both noise barriers you're comparing are used in commercial and industrial applications as barriers between walls and floors. They both have the same mass loaded vinyl (MLV) layer. Which product you choose depends on the application. IME, I see no purpose for LL as Ant now has LLP on the market. It's superior in almost every aspect for the automobile. Please stop putting closed cell foam in cars thinking it will do anything to the noise you don't want in your car. It's just not worth the headache and frustration.

    Brooksies L8's in the doors

So the white part is solid fiberglass, Brooksie? How much weight would you say you added to each door? Thanks for sharing your very inspiring build. Good luck kicking ass for Team Hybrid, dude!

    Going Active

I was a big slut for the aluminum dome Seas Prestige tweeter until I used the LPG aluminum. LPG seems a bit more "full bodied" and less "icy" but I'd give Neo the edge in overall detail. If you listen to less than clean music (MP3's) you might want to choose the LPG instead. It seems to be more forgiving in my install. There is no "perfect" or "amazing" driver in car audio, only really really good tuners and installers.

    Active Crossing

You gotta think that whoever designed that passive for those drivers MUST know something about the optimal bandwidth performance for them. What is with the obsession of forcing tweets down so low these days?? Active is cool and all, but jeepers.

    Pioneer P9 problem

My DEX-P9 does the exact same thing. Opens about half way and then closes right up. Luckly I have a changer so I can still listen to more than one CD over and over. Anyway, I was told by someone that fixed Pioneer heads for a living that the ribbon was probably bad. The ribbon from the unit gets worn out and throws an intermittent, basically. I bought a replacement ribbon from Pioneer right off their website and it came in a few days. I have not fixed it yet, so I cannot say for sure that the problem will be solved. But for you, it might be worth a try. Part #: CNP6124 FLACEPLATE RIBBON CABLE $26.45 If you fix it another way, please let me know!

    Creatine

But for those that do, the placebo effect is too strong not to be ignored. In clinical drug trials, it runs around 30%.

My personal living philosophy (which is hard to live by, in reality): Seek to understand before you seek to be understood. It's all Law of Attraction, at the end of the day.

    "Advice"

Those are the bitches, not all women are that way. Damn, that's harsh. My Dad told me once long ago, "Son, if it's wet and it's not yours - don't touch it." Wise words, indeed.

    Creatine

Gatorade is probably 100% corn. I couldn't find any specific references, but I'd be inclined their sugar source is corn. It's also 100% synthetic beyond the water content. Lemonade: water, sucrose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, ester gum, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, yellow 5 There could be 5 or 50 additional ingredients in the "natural and artificial" flavors, you never know. All 100% synthetic, even the "natural" ones. An excellent alternative is coconut water. You can buy it in Tera Packs at Target stores. It's potassium content dwarfs Gatoraide by 10 fold. It's made my Mother Nature, not some guy in a lab coat in a chemical factory.

    Any beer snobs here?

Yep, those Surly cans are deceiving at first. But crack 'em and pour 'em and they are fine. Anyone happen to notice what some bars are doing with Guinness? For joints that don't have it on tap, they've replaced the widget cans with a plain old can called the Surger. The crack the can, pour it and then put it on an electrical plate (the Surger) that creates the classic cascading head effect. Weeeee fun! http://www.guinness.com/us_en/surger/

Lucky SOB. No chit, German beer is delish. Plus you can drink a ton of it.

    Any beer snobs here?

You drive to cheeseland to buy beer? Or do you know something that I don't about where to buy Viking? Yes, but not regularly. The farm where I buy all my illegal dairy actually stocks their full line. They used to sell at a number of TC LQ's but they don't anymore because of the licensing fees. They make a cayanne pepper chocolate stout that's pretty interesting. Real beer has a nice layer of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. hehe...

    Any beer snobs here?

Young's Double Chocolate Stout I like Molson Canadian Lager for a good, cheap 6 pack once and awhile. Otherwise, I keep it local...Summit or Viking...both non-pasteurized.

    Favorite supplement

Broken cell wall Chlorella. 4x more digestible than beef. Highest chlorophyll content of any of the algae products out there. May even be the highest of any green food, can't remember. Also pulls crap from your blood like heavy metals, toxins, etc. It's really a food, but since I'm not a fish and it comes in a gel cap, I'm going to say it's a supplement for me.

    Protein Shakes

Well, it's putrid. When you heat protein like whey which is very fragile, it goes bad fast. When it putrifies, it smells BAD! Why do you think these companies have to load down these products with so many flavorings and preservatives? As a crude test, take some of your whey and mix it with milk or water and just let it sit on the counter for a few hours. If it doesn't stink like an airport bathroom, it's probably ok but may not be the best quality. If the stuff turns to concrete and you can stand a spoon up in it, imagine what it's doing inside your system. IME, guys that over use garbage quality whey products have the most vile and rotten asses I've ever come across. All of it eaten in the name of "health" too. Sad.
  24. Dr Durden

    Protein Shakes

What are all the rest of the ingredients? Where does the whey come from? How is it processed? A lot of the commercially available whey protein is pre-digested in pig's bile. It is, essentially, garbage and is NO WAY even close to what it WAS (in form and vitality) when it was inside a cow's body (crappy feedlot cattle or otherwise).
