Before this turns into a firestorm...lol Can strue SQ be achieved with a 18inch woofer? I understand sound quality...but am i getting this confuesed with SPL. I dont want a true SPL system... I wanna "WANG"...when i turn it WAAAAAAY up, but when im listening at a normal level i want to hear the nuances of the music and feel it in its entirety...? Can it be done with an 18...? If was to scrap this whole 18 idea...what do i do then...?

I wanna get loud...but i wanna sound good

i had a thread some time ago...and was told that a good pair of coaxial 6x9's would do me good...keep in mind im in high school and this is my first system...so everything isnt going to be perfect... but i wanna sound good on a budget...but be loud on a budget! i have an older kenwood amp...that i would be running my frontstage with...its older...its kenwood...but it puts out good clean power so maybe...dual component sets(6.5s)...in the rear deck(would require mod) and in front door(would require mod) the rear deck has 6x9s in it...stock so maybe a 6x9 component set would be ok with proper crossover and amp settings? but also what are yalls opinions on my sub choices?

I wanna get loud...but i wanna sound good

im thinkin bout going with a good pair of 6x9 coaxial....components in the front doors... its a old car...so until i get my dampening in its gonna rattle...the outside... I've really been leanin towards that 18.4IXL b/c very few people run 18's...especially in their car...plus the sound quality of a sealed box..w/high excursion output...hmm...wat u think bout that?

18 Q Sealed or Ported for SQ

I was talkin to a box builder last night...He gave me some good advice. My main goal is a LSQ system...He said go with a FI Q 18...i was like have you heard one...he said yeah...in a sealed box. He said it would sound better than the same woofer in a ported. This is what he relayed to me from an installer friend of his. I was like ok... He said go 18 inch Q sealed 4 cu ft.....i was like how bout 7 cu. ft ported tuned to 30 hz... I was thinking would it make a BIG NOTICABLE differance on an 18 inch Q...in those box dimensions...its an 18inch sub...thats pretty big... or should i go with the 15...?(for LSQ)

    Sundown Audio SD-1 "Blowout" Sale

Based on what I know about the Mach5 driver... it would beat the SD-1 in SPL without much problem but will likely take more power to do so. The SD-1 should be ahead at lower power levels as it is a more efficient driver. SQ would be another story, as that is what the SD-1 is made for, it excels there. i think more people will get them now...but at the rate its been going...i think you still might have these a while...so i might actually be able to get some! i have no job so money is tight!

    Sundown Audio SD-1 "Blowout" Sale

*laughs* Those aren't going anywhere anytime soon, sorry. If I had the money...id get a pair right now...cause i want that 15 inch Fi Q....but the price of these is what i like...plus they are built for sq...thats what i want. But i would like to see these head to head against the Mach 5 Maw 10 and 12. for subjective sq and spl.

18 Q Sealed or Ported for SQ

The ported box...will have a boost in output...only at the tunning frequency correct? And the sealed box will be flat all around. So basically I will still get pretty loud...Im not tryin to go to comps and all that.. I jus wanna sound good...but when i get loud...make it be clean!

I can see...lots of you guys want 8's for midbass.... I want an 8 as a sub....something for SQ....and can get LOW..but can get loud! Something that performs well sealed...and hit the 30hz!

My 1977 Buick regal came stock with 6x9's in the rear deck...ive gotta replacem...what are some good budget 6x9's in the $150 and under range?
  19. kingsham

Which subs sound better in what box.

In my case...w/ the 15s could i get just as good sq in a ported box...7cu ft. 3.5 per woofer,,,tuned to 30 hz?

    Good Budget 6x9's

i think I AM A try the 6.5 components...a set in the doors...and a set in the rear deck... the door set would be a custom install...

    Good Budget 6x9's

Well in this car....there are no fronts...sort of The fronts are in the dash...those little 3 1/2 or 4x10's...and they are pretty hard to get to and dont really make a contribution to the sound A component set would be nice...but would require some brackets...i think But what are the advantages of a component set over a coaxle(however u spell it) speaker...im kinda on a budget now...i do have an ampthough!
  23. kingsham

I really dont like Fi anymore!!!

I think Im going to buy an FI sub just because of the GREAT customer service

yeah...i was hit with a big loss today... A guy my father knows does bodywork and paint... he said he could paint my car for 2500...w/ no body work...and round 3gs w/ bodywork... but not to worry he's damn good...he did a truck in 1991...has been in about 20+ magazines and has won many awards so its worth it...but ill throw some cash to the side to get some subage!
