Well, I'm using WinISD right now, and it kind of makes sense. The only thing I don't get is, when I put in my box dimension, port tuning, and everything else, the graph shows my box will peak at 200hz. Am I doing something wrong? And, I put in my box volume to be 11.27 cubes, and the box tuned to 34hz, with the port being 30 x 4.5 x 19.39, and I got a final box volume of 9.3. Does this sound right to you?
-
Yeah, I will only be using about 5 cubes per sub. But you have to realize, this is going in the extended cab part of a Ford Ranger, so there's not much room to work with. And to bigdod, I didn't get your PM for some reason.
-
Ok, thanks guys. I've redone my port figures and made it 30" wide and 4.5" tall. And to make this easier on me and everyone else who's trying to help me, how do y'all figure how long to make the port in comparison with the box volume and the sq. inches of port? I've used the RE box calculator before, but I don't see where they get their numbers.

I've got a 2.4 cube box tuned to 30 hz with a 3" aero port. The sub is a Fi Bl 12 getting about 750 watts off a Powerbass ASA1500.1. I went to comp last sunday and did a 136.8 at 44hz. If I made the port tuned to 35 hz, or even 38 hz, would my score go up? I'm not too worried about the competition in my class since I am sitting in 2nd place in the circuit, but it's always nice to be louder.

In the comps I go to they allow you to have your windows down, door open, whatever. I hit my highest with both windows all the way down. The competitons I go to are put on by a guy called dBSteve (midwestspl.com) and I'm going to all the ones in Joplin, Mo and Pittsburgh, KS. I live in Cherryvale, KS btw so that's why I'm only going to them comps (god, gas prices suck). And at the last soundoff, only 5 people showed up, so me and this other kid paid out $10 for entering, and got to play around on the mike when there wasn't anbody around that wanted metered. And to KU40, I do have a center port tube tuned to 38 hz. I haven't tested it yet, but I will here later. The kid I went along with (he's got a ranger with 2 Fi Bl 18's, and the link to the build log is under Build Logs on this forum) is thinking about getting a TermLab for himself and setting up a booth during the summer and charging people for using it. The only reason he's doing his is because now he has a big enough system that every little dB counts, and the nearest meter is about 70 miles away. And, it would be good for me to tune my stuff without going very far( he lives 15 miles away from me).

Well, since this is the biggest possible box I could have made if I still wanted to use my center console and not have the passenger seat crambed all the way up, it's good enough. And again, 1 3" aero port is the most I can put in this box. I can't go to the other side because the sub is in the way. I did just swap in a 35 hz tuned port, and it does seem louder in the 35-45 hz range, but of course it lacks a little in the lower hz range. But I'm going to comp the 20th of june and I'll report back on how the 35 hz port worked out.
-
There is some port noise, but that is the biggest I could fit there. And yes, I checked every possible place to put the port, and that is the only practicle place to put it. But, I'm still happen with the loudness of my setup, and so far I'm sitting second in my class, so I not that worried about getting louder.

I've got a 2.4 cube box tuned to 30 hz with a 3" aero port. I don't remember the actual demensions of the box. Where the sub is it's 6" at the top and 10" at the bottom.

Well, I kind of kick myself in the butt for ordering it D1, but now I have the option of getting a better amp and running it at .5 ohms. And to answer your question on playing music, I think it is very acurate. The sub is mainly to get loud, but it does an excellent job at playing music. It was the same price as the Q, but the Bl will handle more power, and I just liked it better. And to shizzon, I did a sweep to find the highest hitting hz I could get. Even though sitting inside the truck while it was sweeping, it felt extremely strong at about 35 hz and a little under, but I guess the meter doesn't lie. My setup is a low end monster, which is why I originally thought it would meter at about 31 or 32.

It's behind the seats of a 99 Dodge 1500 single cab. Here's a picture.

Well to kind of answer your question, I went to a comp today and did a 136.7. My setup is a 12" Bl running on about 700 watts in a 2.3 cube box with a 3" aero port tuned to about 30 hz. All of this is in a regular cab 99 Ram 1500.

Well, I just finished this install not too long ago. Once the amps get in I'll get video of it running at it's full potential. Here's the link to the build on ca.com. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=312198 Tell me what you think.

Thanks guys. Everybody has been impressed that's seen this setup. I really like it alot. And yes, that was my white regular cab dodge with the Bl12. And with only 750 rms going to it, it POUNDS. Completely shakes everything in my truck. And, to bigpete, I'm still a junior in high school, so that's why I just used the woodshop to build it.
-
Yeah, it would have been better to put more barcing in it, but when we had it playing on the shop floor (before we put it in the truck we just had it hooked to my amp with the box laying on the shop floor) and the box didn't flex one bit. So I thought that a 2x10 would be sufficient.

Hey, wuts up. I've got a 12" Bl in a box that is 2.4 before displacement. Right now it is tuned to 30 hz, and I absolutely love it. However, would something like a 35hz or 38hz tune have a higher output for competition? I'm running about 800 watts to the sub right now.
-
I know but that is the biggest I could fit. I have this behind the seats in a regular cab dodge. This system is still very loud though and will vibrate the seats of a car 2 cars ahead of me. I wish I could have gone with bigger port. How would it sound if I kept the 3" port and put a 2" right above it on the same side?
-
I'm running a 3" aero port, so I can play around with the port as much as I want.
-
So, am I pulling the power that it's rated on my amp at 2 ohms, or 1.5 ohms?
-
That size should be good. I have a 12" Bl running at around 800-900 watts in a box that is 1.9 after displacement, and it is extremely loud for 1 12. The box has one 3" aero port tuned to 30 hz. I completely designed and built the box myself, and it fits perfectly behind my seats (I drive a regular cab dodge 1500). I haven't got it metered yet though, and with winter coming up, it will be a while before I can go get it metered, considering the nearest place is 60 miles away. As for sound, it is very accurate on every bass note, and will dominate the lows. Popped in a 25 hz tone, and it was shaking the truck pretty good. You will be very impressed. I just hope everyone won't start liking Fi now (once people hear what you have is good, they flock to the bank as fast as they can so they can buy themselves the same thing.) LOL
-
I also have the same question. Since my sub is Dual .75 ohms, would the sub be drawing 1.5 ohm, or 2 ohm. For my amp that is the difference between having 1200, and having 800 watts running to the sub.

I found this amp while searching for a good cheap amp. I know that if I spend the extra ($400) I can get a good amp, but this one sure looks like a RF T1000.1. Even if it isn't, does this look like an amp that could give that 1700 watts at 1 ohm? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8403_K...KX1-3000D.html# -
In-depth way of calculating the required length of a flared port

I didn't think that was right, but now that you said so, I'm OK. It just seemed too short to me. -

I used the PSP port calculator and used 1.9 cubes, tune of 32 hz, and 1 3" flared port. It says that the port should be 8.6 inches long, but that seems too short for what I think it should be. Is this right? -

I have a quick question. I have a box that is 2.26 cubes before displacement, and 2.1 after the sub is in. Which volume do I use to determine the port length. I ordered one of their 3 inch ports(tube, both flairs) and I just want to know how long I should cut the tube to get the tune to 32 hz. Thanks, Miles -
I really need to know this fast. Will the Powerbass ASA-1500.1D handle the load that an Fi Bl 12 with Dual 2 ohm coils give (.75 ohms actually). A fast answer would be appreciated!!! http://sonicelectronix.com/item_10084_Powe...SA-1500.1D.html
