    Bigger Sub ?

Not the motors, don't have a magnetizer yet I noticed the yet there, are you gonna get one? If so build your own!! Get a ton of huge farad value high voltage Caps, make an inductor and a way to charge the caps and connect the coil safely and there you go

Sweet, I will never buy one of these, lol, but it is sweet to see you making them.

    Bigger Sub ?

That is where the large coil came from. Small 2" coil is from Po-Yun. --- As for this coil... it won't even come close to fitting in the Nightshade gap. The Nightshade uses an 8-layer flat coil - this is an 8-layer round and the monster sub will have an optional 10-layer flat coil. The length is the same as the "long" D1 coil I've been re-coning some drivers with, though. --- Regarding Fs and whatnot... the big sub will be customizable. If you want a lower Fs, it can be done. --- Before anyone asks... no ETA. I just have a coil sample and a cone sample so far... nothing is final. But it'll be pretty massive and they will all be custom made. Still an absolutely sweet idea. I have to assume the coil on this is a 3" then as the Nightshade is and you didn't say this coil wouldn't fit due to the diameter Again to suit my curiosity why not go with a 4" coil?

    Fi Subwoofer for Home Theatre?

Fi does have an IB sub I believe, but it isn't on their site.

    Future Amplifiers

I did EE in college - they didn't really teach me much about power amplifiers so I didn't finish the program. Too much digital stuff for me... lost interest. I just took electronics, it was all FETs, diodes, BJTs and OP Amps, cool stuff I think. I am taking Physical Electronics in the fall, not sure what it entails but I have herd it is hard as hell.

    Future Amplifiers

Thanks man, the main thing is I am trying to learn amp design and figure I may be able to learn some from the datasheets. I m going to be an EE and possible a CPE afterall, lol. Sure, no problem The IRF3205 is pretty common in Class-D amps, I know Memphis uses them. The IXYS parts I have not seen used in other amps before, but seem to perform very well. Looked at the sheets, doesn't help much, lol. I need to get into industry for that I think, lol.

Bit more information on this guy: Power Supply Section: 12x TO-220 Case Transistors - rated maximum power dissipation of 2400 watts total Output Section: 8x TO-3P Case Transistors - rated maximum power dissipation of 2400 watts total --- So lets just say it is a bit over-built for a 1200-watt amplifier. But just to re-iterate - it was not made for 1/2 ohm operation, so don't do it. Protection will kick in or fuses will blow. Higher powered parts were chosen for long term reliability purposes. All you did was tell us package size, what are the actual transistors?

    Gas Prices, again...

Thats cheap compared to here. its in the $4.30+ range. Heck, in the UP it was that much for regular 87 last week.

    Gas Prices, again...

They aren't excuses, they are cold hard facts, nd you better get used to them. Gas prices are only going to go up from here, China and India increase their demnd everyday as do we, yet the production remains flat, its pure common sense. What do you think the oil companies should give us the gas at cost and make no profit? There are hundreds of thousands of people tht work for them, most making the same as you or me, that need to feed their families and buy gas, if they decreased gas prices they would starve. Also, as sad as it is, their profits are not out of line for the size of their companies, comparably they make about the same profit as any company their size. Its a cold hrd fct, our oil supply is limited and on the downward slope, we have at best 70 years of it left, with most saying in the 40-50 year range. Oil is harder and harder to find and is becoming trickier to extract. It is people like you who seem to think that there is an unlimited supply of cheap easily accessible oil that are causing this country to be so far behind on new technologies whether they be electric or hydrogen fuel cell, you can't get it through your thick heads that the oil will dry up, and damn quickly. $4.00/gal is going to seem downright cheap in future years.

    Gas Prices, again...

You sir are a grade A moron. Iraq does not have all that much oil, Saudi Arabia and Dubai have a lot more. Also, that has 0% to do with it, it is the extremely weak US dollar and our stagnant/recessive economy combined with China's and India's skyrocketing demand.

    Gas Prices, again...

Was $4.19 here, back down to the $4.01-$4.15 range now, but that still sucks when you drive a 4.3L V6.

    SI MAG vs FI BL/BTL

What problems do you have with it? For a single sub a D2 config is ideal as you can run at 1 ohm, but for multiple subs it does present a problem. I would want to run 2 of them at 1 ohm... and that wouldn't work unless they made D4's Thats what I figured. Nick won't do a D4 since he would have to prototype them and do basically everything from scratch again, he is just that meticulous.

    SI MAG vs FI BL/BTL

From what I have heard from people who have first hand experience with both the Mag is louder and with better SQ, but it is pretty close.

    SAE-1000D Questions

Yep, it is 1 ohm stable and does around 1100 watts actual power. --- Earthman, The dilemma is this... the lower power rated amp would cost more, so it doesn't make much sense. I suppose I will wait to do anything until I can try to develop a smaller sized PCB with the new build house so I can stick with one product to cover that segment. So you're sicking with the current 1000D for the time being?

    SAE-1000D Questions

Well, for me the fact that the 1000D is strapable is nice in case I decide to run 2 new Mags. If the 800D is more powerful however, it sounds great and I would have no problem running them. I assume the 800D will be stable at 1 ohm as well and would do 1100 watts or so like the current 1000D can do?
  22. bose301s

    SI MAG vs FI BL/BTL

BL and BTL will probably be louder, but not guaranteed, but the Mags will absolutely dominate them in sound quality.

    SAE-1000D Questions

If you sent me stuff to test, I'd really break stuff. Yes, but hitting it with a sledge hammer won't help Jake know about the electrical reliability

    SAE-1000D Questions

Could care less about the size for the most part, I bought it for its power and reliability and for the Quality and support the Sundown name implies.

    Bigger Sub ?

The project lacking interest was a 5kw amp, not sub I think a built to order big boy sub would sell well enough to make it worth my effort. I wouldn't expect to sell all that many, maybe 100 in a year unless they take off beyond expectations. D'oh! I knew what the project was, but I definitely messed up and said a 5kw sub, lol. I guess if you can afford to keep stock on the parts its a cool product to have in your stable. It is definitely different than an amp obviously, not as expensive and not as large of development costs.
