Wow that really sounds good, especially since I had always been told that I would be pretty much screwed for finding good midranges in a 5.25, thanks a lot. one other question how do you think these will react running on the 100.4 if I am going to have a 18" BTL running on a sundown 3000? I'm confident in that they will sound great but will they be powerful enough not too be too drowned out if I want to crank up the bass?

Advice on elctrical system

Thats kinda what I wanted to do I just didn't know if mixing up batteries like that would cause any problems. Also my battery is under my back seat and it is a 3.8 so I could fit another inch taller if I needed the extra power. -

Ok I was looking at Powermaster batteries and I want to get a D3100 for the trunk. If I have a 200 amp alternator and I'm running 3400 watts of power what do I need to get for a starter battery? Powermast has a lot of batteries I just don't know what size I would need. -

Yes there is a voltage drop on how fast the battery charges but not on the charge going from the battery directly to the amp. I would rather have my battery charge a little slower than not have it bump as hard when I want it too, but thats just me. -
Advice on elctrical system

It depends on how much power you are trying to draw from your amp at that distance. Even with 0 Aug there will be an impedance change. If you try to draw too much power and you batteries are too small then adding that distance is just going to hurt things more causing lights dimming, your alternator working like mad, and in the end just having to do more work on your electrical system. -

Ok I was looking at the Kinetik batteries and what would be a good CCA to go with? I know I don't need a big one for my starting battery but my other one probably needs to be big. -
Ok maybe I am making a mistake thinking I'm going to be able to run a good active crossover system on my first system ever. I'll start out with what I do know, if I get a good enough head unit I can run active straight off of it, I don't need anything better than that for now. Also I know that I have room for 6.5" speakers in the doors and 1" tweets in the A pillars. But what is the difference between a 2 way and 3 way speaker? Also I have pretty much no way to go listen to quality speakers unless I want to drive about 3 hours to the only decent car audio store around. So I know you are all going to say that I need to hear them myself to decide but that is just out of the question, I'm hoping that I can get the sound I want just by going active. I can describe that I enjoy a mellow tweeter but not too mellow, also in a speaker im not a SQ phile but I don't want any distortion and I want a little midbass presence. I know I can't get much midbass unless I get speakers just for midbass, but that won't be needed. Also they can not be drowned out by the 18" BTL in the trunk. Also what kind of headunit would be sufficient to run active on and have everything I'm going to need? I need a AUX plug in the back and I would like it to be easy to read and navigate through the menu's. I plan on powering these with the Sundown 100.4, but will this be too much power on the tweets if so will I need a seperate amp just to keep from overpowering the tweets or how does that work. I am completely new to this if you can't tell and I am looking for a little help. Thanks.

I am seriously considering this 880 it looks like a great head unit, but I read that a problem they have is you have to manually ground the rca outputs? why is this?
-
I would say if you get it fully loaded and your not a complete idiot about it it should handle up to 2000 rms. I know a lot of people run them on this.

Ok I am majorly confused about about how to do a good front stage. Just to give you an idea I am planning on getting a 18" BTL with the SD3000D in a 8 cubic foot box. I have boon looking at all kinds of speaker and I want to get a set of 6.5" components with 1" tweeters. I will probably go passive for now because it is easier and im not that SQ oriented. I mainly want something that will keep up with the sub. So what is all this 2-3-4 way stuff it has me so confused. What is better and why? Also I have 6x9's in the rear deck but I have heard rear fill sounds like chit with subs. So would it be good to get like a set of 8" or 10" midbass drivers to mount back there?
-
Well ok what do you look for in a midrange speaker and what brands have these qualities. Maybe I can tell you how I differ in what I want from what you want better if I understand what you like. I also know from your posts that you are very SQ oriented, so if I am not as much SQ oriented then would the XXX's satisfy me?
-
I looked these up and they are about perfect for what I want. I just don't know where to buy them. Also how much do they go for?
-
Well idk, I am trying to think of the best way to describe it. I guess I want to hear the words when it is turned up but I want it to sound good with some decent midbass if I want to turn it down to rest the eardrums. Im sorry if im not being that clear but im trying to say it in the best way possible.
-
Thats what I mean keep up as in can hear the words when I want to thump lol. I want to have some good sounding speakers too just because I am a music lover and I want the option to turn down the bass and listen to different music. So idk my budget for speakers would be maybe around $500? Idk im not firm on a budget, if this is enough im happy but if I have to spend a little more I can make room. I would like to get the 100.4 amp that Sundown makes for the front stage. Is this gonna be too much?
-
Well I've been looking at Optima batteries but I have no idea what kind of alternator to get, should I just go get mind rewound or buy a new HO? Also I should only have to buy like a 750 CCA battery for the starter but Im thinking about getting the yellow top 900 CCA battery for the amps.

I am making a list of everything I need for my system and I need help. I plan on getting a Fi BL 18 loaded with a Sundown 1500 watt amp with a 10 cubic foot box tuned at 30hz. I want to use one of Sundown multi channel amps for the mids and highs probably the 100.4. I am gonna get a new starter battery and a battery for the trunk, isolate the battery in the trunk and get a larger alternator. Run all power and grounds 0 gauge. These are the things I am not sure of yet, what head unit to get, what mids and highs to get, what crossover to get, what brand of batteries to get, what size of alternator, and what type of equalizer. I can't think of anything else at the moment. I am looking to get highs and mids that can handle that amp and drivers that will fit the factory opening without much modding, I already have tweeters on an A-pillar location (the stock location), the drivers in the door are 5 1/4 or 5 1/2, not for sure. Also I would like the drivers to be able to be crystal clear and so I can hear them over the sub, nothing worse than all thump and no words. Now I don't really know for sure If I will need the alternator or not my stock alternator is 110 amps so if I get the second battery and Isolate it will it be enough? now with the mids and highs amp will I be able to fit it under the front seat or something? This would save a lot of headache of just running speaker wire, I have power seats, heated seats, all that stuff so I fear I would not be able to fit an amp under a seat with all of that. Also more on electrical when I go to run my big 3 how much trouble will it be that my battery is under my back seat? I know it will lower the amount of power wire to run to the trunk by a lot but running the big 3 might suck big time. I hear this all of the time too the reply is always "What is your budget?" so I will answer you question and say I will save up as long as I have too I know its not gonna be cheap for everything already just looking at sub, amps, wiring, head unit, and everything else, so tell me if $500 isn't enough for mids and highs, just drivers. Nothing wrong with spending less money but I don't want to sacrifice quality for put a couple hundred in my pocket either. So thank you for reading my post and hopefully I can get some answers, I also have to tell you that I would be thankful if I can find some good sites to buy some stuff off of for good prices because I only have two car audio stores in my area and they all carry crappy brands and triple the prices so I refuse to go inside these places.
-
Well I was already thinking about doing alternator and battery for 1500 so my estimate isn't far off. Ok then I have a stock 110 amp alternator. So if I buy a 200 amp alternator then what kind of batteries are good, deep cycle are good for the amps is what I heard but what about a starter battery. And also should I upgrade my starter battery if I plan on isolating the battery in the trunk?
-
Well what if I decided to spend the extra to buy the BTL fully loaded, this might be an option at the moment, I know it could handle the 3k but if I have the BTL im gonna hunger for more power sooner or later. So if I do decide to do this what would I have to do with electrical in you opinion, would a 200 250 amp alternator and 2 batteries work? Or do you think I really don't need that much? I am still going through hell trying the right comp set to go with my 100.4 Sundown, I would like to get 6.5's. I found a Head Unit that seems to have all I want. Tell me what you think of it. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=18335

I have one question for you guys, do you think that a Sundown 3000D would blow the BL fully loaded? I would really like this amp, I know I would have to do a little more electrical but it would be worth it.
-
Well I really don't know how to fabricate the inside of the door to fit a 6.5" but I have heard multiple times that this would be a lot better. Well with sound deadening is $5k enough for everything? I think it should be, I have been looking into Raamat. If that much is not needed then tell me I would like to spend anywhere from 3500 to 4500 but if 5000 is needed then I will save up for it. And of course I am willing to put the instillation time into it, I really don't want to half ass anything, I want the best sounding and loudest thing around. Of course it won't be hard, a friend of mine has the loudest around my area and I doubt he is hitting 135, also his SQ isn't all that great. I want good sound, something where it definitely won't sound like crap when I want to crank this monster of a sub up. Also this is a 2000 Buick Lesabre Limited, huge trunk space will be a good resting place for my sub.

I am planning on getting 2 15" BL's with about 8 cubic feet of volume in a ported box to about 30 hz (I love lows, the lower the better). So how do you guys think this will perform? Also I have heard great things about Sundown and that they make great amps so what model amp or amps would fit these subs good, and what kind of electrical and front stage upgrades am I looking at to make this sound great? Also I have heard of the Q's hitting upper 140's with just one 15, so would this be that much louder if it is a good setup? Also just to let you know I come from one of those towns where everyone gets a boner for JL's and Audiobahns so I am ready to blow someone away when I get my system and show them what Fi's can do.
-
Well I have already found the adapter for steering wheel controls it is $70. Well My tweeters are 1 inch dome, and I like something mellow, I don't like high pitches that hurt your ears. Also my speakers are in the door panel, there is no removable grill I need to remove the panel so that I can see exact size and mounting depth. But when I went to remove the panel it was all snaps, no screws or anything. and I got all of them off around the outside but it still didn't want to come off.

I am planning on working on my front stage to get ready for my system how does a $1000 budget sound for 4 speakers, 2 tweeters, amp wiring, head unit, and maybe even crossovers I may be able to pull a couple hundred more dollars but if this budget sounds too low then what am I looking at paying. I am hoping on saving money by just buying a good amp at a low price so what kind of amp would be good at about 60 watts x 6 at 4 ohms. I was looking at Boston components but only crutch field carries them and they dont have that great of a selection of them so what other brand is good I don't need attached tweeters I have a place for them on the doors.
-
no no, just for the front stage, if I don't need to spend it all that is fine but that is my maximum budget for wiring, amp, speakers, tweeters, head units, and unit to keep my steering controls.
-
Well the only question I haven't answered would have to be that I do not plan on doing competitions anytime soon and definitely not with this setup. Also my budget for front stage will need to be anywhere from 1000 to 1500
