good to know I'm not the only one, sometimes I consider counceling.

So the single 4 ohm IB3 is 4 layer, and the single 2 ohm coil is 2 layer. I ordered a custom dual 2, will it be 2 or 4 layer? Or 8 Or 1

I take back my UPS statement. They've actually been pretty quick once they've picked things up. A storm slowed things a few days, but they've been good... another comment I made in haste

2 dual 2 ohm will give you 2 ohm or .5 ohm call them back and change your order Not the thread starter, and this guy is running two amps according to his signature. . . my apologies, I saw " I ordered" and wanted to be quick before UPS had them at his door step hehe (we know how quick they are) sorry

the guy said he wants SQ and he wants it louder. so if $$ wasn't a factor I would double the subs/volume/power and electrical or go bigger, drop the 12" and go 15" 18" or what have you. I'm guessin 1st option is better in his case if he has the room for it

i agree. though i'm one of those idiots. but i'm completely satisfied with my Q. i think the main problem for new people coming into car audio, think they want SQ.. but come to find out that they dont. is because they have no experience with either. thats how it was for me. all i had experience on was reading online, and seeing some videos. but video's do nothing really. this stuff should all be judged by first hand experience. i thought i wanted SQ, which i do. but right now, i don't have everything needed for an SQ setup. meaning patience, time, and money. plus as it turns out, now that i have the Q and know what SQ is more leaning towards, for my next setup, i will most likely go with SPL orientated sub. just so i can really find out what i like since i will have first hand experience with both. just gotta learn first hand. what if you went with 2 subs instead of 1, or a larger sub...so you could still have SQ and more of it? That's my approach going to 1 very large sub with lots of power.... sure a 15" BTL is louder than a 22" IB3, but, I'm still gonna be pretty loud with an SQ system

let's clarify why so he can feel secure about it, since we confused the chit out of him.... 1 subwoofer dual 2 coils: you can run the 2 coils series to get 4 ohms or parallel to get 1 ohm. 2 subs dual 2 coils: you can run the 2 subs coils series for 4 ohms each then run the subs parallel for 2 ohms OR you can run the 2 subs parallel for 1 ohm each then run the subs parallel for .5ohm now if you get D1 coils 1 subwoofer D1 series is 2 ohms or parallel is .5 ohms 2 subs series/parralel... sub coils series 2 ohm parallel 1 ohm OR sub coils parallel .5 ohm subs parallel .25 ohm OR series/series to get 4 ohm It sounds very complicated and intimidating, and sometimes it can be... it is important to get it right so you don't have any misshaps! But it can be easy too if you pay attention and make sure you understand first

buying used car audio batteries

awesome question, good thread. I went througha scare a month or 2 ago, I've had 6 optima red tops sitting around for 3-4 years, brand new.... voltage on some dropped down to 12.2 or somethin like that.... got them charged up, been great ever since! -
OK what would you have done 29Hz on DOWN
kryptonitewhite replied to kryptonitewhite's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
just added you as a friend. I really do wnat to try something just like that, only I have more space available and I will tune below 20Hz. Would 48" wide, 32" tall, 30" deep external be large enough to do that for an IB3 18" ? That is freakin awesome work man... awesome! -
you sir are my new hero! you have a build log? beautiful work.... but IDK why you're wasting so much tuning down to 22Hz ;)

could almost get 2 of them... but I could get a second IB3 too -

I dream of them every night.... maybe someday -
ported can sound pretty clean as well, and since you have a shaggin.... I'd guess you will have room for a nice low tuned ported for good SQ

SAX-50.4 SAX-125.2 SAX-100.4D SAE-1200D SAZ-1000D SAZ-1500D SAZ-3000D DISCONTINUED PRODUCTS SAX-100.4 SAX-100.2 SAE-1000D I'm not seeing a 2000, but two dual 2 subs would give you either .5 ohm or 2 ohms sub size? you need to give some info... like what dimensions you have for a box, music you listen to, sealed? ported? bandpass? TL.... You failz! The 2000D is on pre-order. Get the D2, and run it in parallel at 1 ohm. 12 awg would be fine hehe I think i saw something somewhere about that... is there a 3500 coming too? and doesn't he want 2.... so D1's series/parallel for 1 ohm? and I'd go 8 gauge ( jus kidden)

Hexi changes his site so much, I couldn't find the 4 15" destroyer wall. IIRC it was not 4" coils, they were based off the MT hardware.... 3" email pete

haha nice I'm kind of wishing I would have been more patient and waited till i could scrounge a few more bucks up to get the Q to begin with... learn as you go... jus seems I never get to a nice plateau. When I get to the next level, I still break it and go "oh, now I know, next time..." and the cyle continues LOL
-
I used that address for my recones (same as Nick gave me by the way) and UPS are a bunch of idiots and couldn't find it , UPS added Suite 107 to the address and sent me a supplemental bill for $8 because they suck. FYI supplemental bill for $8

I shouldn't say I regret getting the IB3 rather than the Q... I was glad to get more Xmax and lower Fs, and I think i have plenty of motor force in my application. My only disappointment was I asked about getting dual 1 coils and was told "NO" at that time. I think if I started with D1 coils, I wouldn't have had the Lanzar issues. But, I have a better amp now. I'll be getting a dual 2 IB3 22" and I think I will still be OK... if the 18" IB3 motor works in my application, I don't see why a 22" Q won't (if we just call it a 22" Q... cuz really, that's my question.... since they are using a Q motor for an IB3 sub, what's the difference? Is it really more a "Q" then? If it's still more IB3, why?) So OK... let's make that my question: Since they are using a Q motor for an IB3 22" sub, is it really a 22" Q only to be used in free air?
-
Other than thiele small params and the small pics, it's hard to know all of the differences.... the Q has a smaller pole vent? larger magnets? The single 2 ohm IB3 is a 2 layer coil, the Q is 4 layer. The Q's Fs isn't much higher than the IB3's and the motor doesn't seem tooo much bigger.... IF I had the extra $$$ at the time I would have gotten a Q because it would have been much better for my application, I could have gotten the dual 1 ohm coils and ran my Lanzar OPTI2000D at .5 ohm and everything would have been GREAT. But I only had enough for the IB3, and so I let the lower Fs and higher Xmax ease my mind about doing what i had to do. If I could go back in time, I knew 1100 RMS wasn't gonna cut it running the lanzar 1.5 ohms higher than where it wanted, and I could have had some more motor to back things up. I simply could NOT. So I ordered the IB3 18 and I am happy with it... excellent subwoofer not even considering the price... but at $220, I can't feel bad about my choice. I had to drop another $83 on a dual 2 which is now surpassing the Q price to begin with, but gotta do what ya gotta do. I had to ditch the Lanzar because .5ohm setups are hard to come by... but I feel I have a better quality amp now, I'm hoping it will have better customer support, and I have more power on tap, more headroom now. I think I did OK by getting the IB3 as a temp setup until the 22" comes out. That's all the 18" was, was to get by till the 22" comes out, then I can use the 18" in my home.... and if I am careful when I get the recone kit, it will happen just like that... I'll put the 18 inside and get the 22" Now, the 18 does just fine in its application.. I love it, its just about what I expected... I think with this new coil option, it will be perfect. Going to a 22"... I am hoping the Q motor will keep it that way... add enough motor force to push the larger cone. Are there any close up motor pics? Can anyone enlighten me on IB3 vs Q motor differences? I obviousely only know enough to be dangerous.
