What year mustang is this box for?
-
I know I'm kind of late on this one but I see you use Wildfire. I use it at work. If and when I'm ever in the area I'd like to check this bad boy out. Cool build.

You know 4 slugs would most likely be useless, it sure does look sexy though! When the new BTL came out Scott mentioned that more that one slug wouldn't improve performance. I wonder how stepping up to a 4" coil changes this. Is this new driver going to use 10" spiders? Regardless this is on bad MOFO! You know what sure does look sexy? Duran's avatar. Daaang!

I noticed Mach 5 Audio is now offering a MJ18-PR. Are there more sizes to come? I dig the box Mark made with a IXL 15 and the MJ18-PR. Dreaming out loud. I'd like to build a box with 3 IXL 10's firing up and 3 rear firing 10" PR's for my stang. Hint, hint, make a 10" PR. Keep the excellent products coming.

Great looking sub. Would this sub drop into a box built for a BTL? Will a 12" be available when this sub is introduced?
-
Hey, now there's a thought. Two tens rear firing and an 18" firing up. I might just have to take you up on that.
-
Six 10" PR's. Whoa! It was a nice thought while it lasted.

Need Ideas on A Nice Amp For under $300 to power a 12" BL
onebadmonte replied to obcaraudio's topic in General Fi
If you go with something on ebay, try to make it a purchase that qualifies for the microsoft cash rebate program. Its currently at 25% with a max purchase rebate of $200. Doing the math, an $800 amp would get you the max rebate. Wish you luck. -
The "X"con 12" prototype has arrived

Does this mean you will be making a sort of production prototype? Also what is the mounting depth of this beast? Thanks. -
1970 big block 4spd Monte Carlo. Sadly its been sitting in the garage for the past 8yrs. I blame the economy.

Nice build, your truck is one of the sweetest I've seen. Those subs rock!

They will be the same finish as the top and back plates of the Icon. Cool, that black oxide stuff doesnt last too long before it starts to rust. -

Keep the carbon fiber dust cap the way it is on the prototype. What kind of finish will the back plate and top plate have? -

Thank you for the positive response, we feed off of hearing from people. To answer your first question, this is still early in the testing stage of the prototype. Mark is currently putting the driver through its paces to make sure it can handle a solid factor more then what our goals are and what we will rate it. As we have a great relationship with our build house, much of the design was hashed out in detail prior to building the first working version, this helps really dial in our goals. Not to mention it is cheaper then going though 10 different versions. As for decision making on design, it is effected by the parts available to the build house. But that is said for all companies, unless you are putting forth some serious money to go with something totally different. As for people tossing in money, that is a very nice gesture, but Mark and I have SSA debt and loan free. Meaning it is all out of pocket for us, but that is the way we prefer to. Now, if there was crazy demand for a specialty driver, much like Mach5 did with the SPL line, we would most certainly consider our options. I think you guys created quite a stir by introducing this prototype. It got me out of lurker status. It's a unique sub with its exaggerated backplate. I look foward to reading more about its design and how you came about making it happen. Thanks. -

Just curious? At what point in the development stage is this product? What has been finalized and what is still subject to change? This would make for a cool documentary of sorts. Allowing us to see first hand how this sub is developed from an engineering perspective. Going in depth on the pros and cons of the backplate, magnet, and top plate. Maybe explaining how the spiders are rated. I read in a previous reply how SSA has limited resources. I feel this gives SSA an advantage to be more open and closer with its customers. I'm also curious to see if some of the desision making is made based on whats available, is there a possibility for us the enthusiast to pony up for something better? Who knows? I really dig your stuff. Keep us posted. Thanks. P.S. Keep the dustcap its just enough bling for a sub thats all buisness. -

Nice sub. Keep the dustcap, hell keep the the whole thing looking the way it looks. I'm interested. -
Now I get it. It's to pull heat off the voice coil and into the motor, I think. Next though, is heat in the motor/top plate bad? I'm guessing this is for high wattage daily applications? Thanks for the info.
-
Did your subs have the heat induct ring? Do you know what it is? Thanks.
-
Is it some sort of heat inducing ring to pre-heat the sub for people who live in extremly cold enviroments? HA HA! I have no idea what it is, but I am curious to find out what it is. Bump for an answer.

Interesting spacers. With the radius entry of the cooling channels I envisioned the pie shaped magnets of the 06 RE XXX. I was wondering if there might have been some sort of design connection. Conspiracy, ha ha! Cool sub.
-
I just noticed. Is there a spacer between the basket and the top plate? It's almost the same color as the magnet. Could it be a smaller magnet? I know it doesn't make any sense to have one there, but still. What is it? Its a cool sub. I'd like to learn more about the reasoning for the change. Cool stuff, congrats.

CAD/CAM designer for the leader in aftermarket automotive A/C

Is it possible to get some pictorials/screen shots of this FEA showing the magnetic flux of the triple stack motor and the new single slug motor? This stuff sounds really interesting. Maybe make a PBS Nova episode out of it?
-
Ha ha! They look like the old Avalanche with the motor on backwards. Bad mofos no doubt, congrats.

Will this new design trickle down to the AA Mayhem?
