DSS Tridents and Twisted Sounds S-10. Road to 166dBs
onebadmonte replied to stevemead08's topic in Build Logs
Awesome. Wish you the best. -
Ha ha, i dont know about that. I'm hopung in making it out to a few shows. Hope to see you at some of them. It is indeed. Thanks. It'll be more of an experiment log, where i try to convey how great its sounds by onky using words. Lol, at least FexEx is being consistant. What is your box going to spec out at? I'm shooting for 3.5 to 4cuft with a 33Hz tune. I'll be building a test box with extenal ports just to goof around till I like what I hear then I'll commit to a nice box. Right about the same as you. Hope to be closer to 4 ft^3 and anywhere from 30-35 should be just fine. Cool! Shall be interesting.

So I get this e-mail saying the status of the order I placed on Nov-30 has changed. The item has shipped. Pretty fhawking cool I thought, and went on my merry way. I figured it'd come some time after X-mas. Later in the day, I was out in the garage getting ready to do an oil change when the FedEx truck pulls up. WTF!? Sho nuff, the delivery man drops this off: No way, I just got the email, I thought to myself... Well I guess the automated Fi customer update system is still set to BTL UFO order fulfillment schedule. On a side note it looks like FedEx is on a roll with punching holes in the sides of boxes. Spoiler Alert! Everything checked out fine. On to the pics. It's usual Fi packaging fan fare here. The big reveal, coming at you at funny angle. :\ Typical Fi extras. Fi nally a clear shot. I was a little curious on how the new surround would compare to that of previous models. It's bigger. A little side by side with the previous big dog from Fi. Now a bunch of pics: The end.

What's up homies? It's been a while since I've posted anything meaningful. Here is my latest audio venture. It's the Zephyr kit by the latest audio start-up, DIY Soundgroup. A little history/search words about this kit. It's fashioned around the Econowave style, although there is nothing econo about this kit. It was designed by Jeff Bagby. And that's about all I know. My goals: 1. To have a reference sound system so I know what to listen for when tuning my auto sound system. 2. Be able to achieve nutty ass rock concert levels. 3. Finally be effing cool. Here is my start, wood! Box sides coming together. The kit came with a pre-cut baffle. The design calls for a double front baffle, so that meant I needed to cut a second baffle with matching holes. I started off by gluing gluing the second baffle on to the pre-cut baffle. To keep everything lined up I opted to dowel the two baffles together using my trusty but useless drill guide. With the baffles glued I drilled some pilot holes for the jig saw. My work with a jigsaw. :-0 A close up of my fine craftsmanship. You didn't really think that was it, did you? Time to clean up the carnage from the jigsaw. Viola, finished baffles. A couple of close up shots. More on the way.

Well, just like your sig, I've got more crap than I'd like to admit to. Lol, I did get it done, a few hours after I had planned on finishing. Dang distractions. Yes sir, its a happy Christmas after all. Dang, 20hr shifts!? Player be hustling. Thanks, the wife appreciates the comments, even though in reality she sometimes disagrees with my shenanigans. Dont tell her I said that. I picked this sub up because i sold the BTLs to get the Ethos, so the creampuff felt left out. Got to give the little Olds some love. Plus who wouldnt want to try out this beast.

Very appreciated my good man.

Better full of surprises than something else.

I almost did.

Yeah, that was a pretty bad Topic Title. He he. My bad. Any ways, I took advantage of the DSS deal, picking up a few woofers, and man are my arms tired..... Enough with the bad jokes, here are some pics. I was a little worried about that one box, but everything checked out good. All lined up and ready for action. A couple of motor shots. Not my best work, but still and impressive sight. This will be the first time I run four subs in a single setup. Stay tuned for a build log coming to a forum near you. These subs look great. A+ build quality. All the glue joints look solid with no excess glue. No weak spots were revealed when pushing up from the backside of the surround. These subs pack an impressive stack of spiders extending to the outer most edge of the spider landing. They looked solidly glued, no visual weak points. The neck joint like all other neck joints I've seen in my life was meh. Crap all this blah blah blah, how about some moar fhawking pics? DSS spider landing and neck joint. Coil pic. Thanks for looking.

Me too. Well, there will be a box involved, but thats about as far as ive gotten. :/ It'll be good thought, i promise.

Yes sir, after a cup of joe and some donuts. Thanks, gonna need all the luck i can get with this one. Its gonna be a mutha getting the box in.

Ha ha, I dont know about that rowdy part. My dream build from heatwave turned out to be just that, a big dream. These bad boys are making their way into another reincarnation of the suburban. New mids, processor, and front stage amps. See you all in the lanes. Opps, forgot, D2. Looks like FedEx got a little rowdy with that box. Yup. :/ Glad eveything checked out good with yours. Its always scary when shipping these heavyweights. I'm gonna have to get them to double box them then if this is an issue. In the future I'm hoping to use injection molded foam supports in the packaging. With other subs the top and bottom boards were tied together with 2x2s at all four corners. This would lock the sub inbetwwen the two boards and keep it from tipping over when the box lands on its corner. Dang it. With you its always some thing special. It just cant be an ordinary experience, always something exceptional to tell. Just messing. 8 subs? Damn, shit's gonna be serious. Cant wait to see. Thanks, they really are. Looking forward to getting them going.
-
Well get to it, bro. Time wait for no man. Thanks. Another build?!!!! Dang, you're prolly the busiest guy here.

Will these work in small sealed boxes. Lets say .5cuft for the 10" model? If so, it could make for a fun little sub.
-
Nice to see you have been "fulfilled". Wink wink. looks bad ass.

I thought that was the whole point of this section, to post up shows and events regarding car audio. USACi and IASCA are not supporting vendors yet i see their shows posted here all the time. Granted, Dave's latest post is a little off the wall for an event, but still with in the spirit of this section. If what dave is doing is considered unacceptable then i say its time for this section to go away.

Dang it, I'm a day late. Happy birthday BigJon.
