Been awhile since Ive been on here but I Just purchased back my 2x 15" SSA Icon subs I first purchased around 11 years ago. I have/ had them in a 7.2 cubic foot box net tuned to 32 and it sounded great on the bass music and rap/ hip hop I used to listen to but not amazingly accurate/ punchy on rock, etc. Im looking to only use one of them in my 2010 Ram 1500. I currently have a 10" JL W7 in a sealed box in the truck and it sounds great and I love it but doesn't quite have the output Id like and planning to put 1 of the Icons in the truck. Im considering either Ported or sealed. I now listen to mainly bands like chainsmokers, club music, alt rock, heavy rock, and a bit of edm, etc. Looking for it to be very accurate on kick drums but also hit hard so you feel it in your chest. According to SSA optimal ported is around 3.5-4 net tuned to around 32hz but Im thinking about tuning a bit higher. Ive done some winisd modelling but its been a long time and just wanting to hear thoughts on these designs. My max dimensions are 20" wide, 24" deep by 22" high. This is one design i'm considering, is 2.25" wide too thin for port width? im worried about port velocity and noise \ Or if I go sealed this is what im thinking. Thanks again for any help

Looking for some advice on a budget Home Theatre Receiver. I currently have a soundbar and sub and its not bad but would like something better, Main goal is probably for music but will also be watching movies etc but would rather it sound great on music then be amazing on Movies. Usually I would have done more research but Christmas is coming up so I need ideas for the Wife and family. Budget is max of around $400 Canadian for a decent receiver and ill pick up some used speakers and then later I will build a couple towers and a sub with separate components. Is a receiver with 70rms enough for a decent set of towers or is home audio like car audio and I could run the speaker wire to a separate amp in the towers? Im currently interested in a Denon AVR510BT 5.2 receiver as it has good reviews, Bluetooth and the two sub output couldbe handy if I wanted a sub for HT and a different for music. My main question is is this going to be decent enough to expand over time? I know I wont have the 7.1 for expanding to multiple rooms etc but thats just not in my Christmas budget. Also my livingroom is tiny right now and doubt my next house will have a very big one either. Any tips or suggestions?

Nice, ya part of me wishes I would have went 7.2 since we are planning on moving and buying a bigger house next time but plenty happy with it. My plan is slowly upgrading and just found a 300rms Bash amp for sale for around half of new 30 mins from me so might try building a sub box, have a Sundown E12 laying around. Also Shogen, hows the output of your 15" Xcon? I have 2 Xcon 12s that were old and the spider rotted and are shot so was thinking about reconing 1 to a 15 and just running that instead of the 2 12s as I cant afford doing that have a AQ2200 to power it. Also what do you have it tuned at? I had my 2 Icons at 32hz and was nice but my 2 XCon 12s were at 29 and that was pretty low.

Just wanted to update for anyone that looks in the future, I ended up going with a Denon AVR-S510BT 5.2 amp and love it so far, 2 sub outputs, 5 or more HDMI inputs, Bluetooth audio and a really cool app that you can download and control through Bluetooth, you can turn on the amp, switch inputs and change volume through your phone. Also picked up a JBL 12" sub with 250rms amp and some Mission 782 towers used for $300. have a cheap center and rears but sounds good for music and Home theatre, I may build a new sub tuned lower in future for HT lows but its plenty good for me for now. Id definitely recommend going this route and slowly building up the system vs home theatre in a box as Im into it for $600 CAD and kills any systems ive heard in that price range.

Been looking for awhile now and everything is pretty old and close to the price this Denon is. I'll b shopping craigslist for temporary speakers and subs. I like having the Bluetooth too as my wife uses it to listen to music while she's cooking etc so going with an older receiver I'll lose that. Just wanna know am I limitting future upgrades a lot with this budget of receiver or will it be good enough as long as I don't want 7.1 or something super crazy? Just wanna make sure I'm not missing some thing I should be looking for in a receiver I'm missing or wattage and extra features basically it?

Just had my two old 12" Xcons each blow a coil. one the spider rotted right out. (were old when I got them and that was over 2 years ago) Any chance of any deals on Recones for black Friday? Im in Canada and with exchange and shipping Im paying as much for a recone as people in the US are paying for a complete new Xcon. Thanks,
-
For that budget why not go with a ZV4 or SSA Evil (on sale well below your budget) Oh just noticed you are in BC like me. So a Evil or ZV4 would be a bit over ($920 for a EVIL) What amp are you running? Electrical? you may be better off going a bit cheaper (IE SSA XCON, Icon,Sundown X series) And making sure you have adequate power/electrical. Ive had 2x15" Icons and now have 2x12" Xcons and would recommend looking into them (either would be better than the ones you meantime your family having. Or if you just want to get loud SOundqubed have some cheaper options that supposedly get loud but not as known for sound quality like the SSA subs which are loud and very detailed.

Just picked up this new Soundqubed 2200 off a guy never used for $200, Im up in Canada so this would be almost $700 new to buy so I am super stoked, Should be alot louder than my JL JX1000 at 4 ohm, 250 watts each hasn't really woken up my SSA Xcon 12s

i loved using my Samsung phones but I am very hard on phones and had them in for warranty work almost as much as when they were working, things like charging ports wearing out, random crashing etc, all three I had in a 3 year period went away so many times they replaced them and didnt make it close to 2 years even with the replacement. My Nexus 4 was my last android and I went and got an Iphone 5s, ive had it for almost 2 years and have never once had an issue or had to send it in. I miss the Android sometimes but got sick of phones dying on me.

REWIRED speakers Back to Headunite/ Speakers dont work now.
codester replied to tac2137's topic in General Audio
I figured it out. I did have to go through my headunit settings and turn on the internal amp. Thanks for the help! Glad you figured that out I had that happen once and took me a few minutes to realize it, Id upgrade to a different amp because it sounds like either some settings on the amp were wrong or your amp has some issues. post a pic of the side of the amp where all the settings are and we can see if something is amiss. -

What model is you headunit? Some headunits have a setting to turn off the units internal amp so that when you have an amp running them the speaker wires aren't energized. -
Hi, Been out of the game for a bit after selling my system, 2x15" SSA Icons in 7.2cubes net 32hz on Crescendo BC2000D. Anyways Im picking up 2 12" SSA Xcons for a crazy price and want to put them in my 03 Dodge 3500. I only want to lose 1 seat so dimensions are a bit tight. 32" tall x21" wide by 25" deep. I think I can get around 5 cubic feet net, (may be able to gain an inch or two on depth) question is how much port area should I aim for? They will be ran on low power, JL JX1000 for now so only 500rms each. Probably wont be adding much more as I dont have the money for electrical or space. if I aim for 70+ and around 5 cubic feet would that be ok? Thanks, Codester

Any advice on this? Do my calculations look good? The subs are in a premade ported box under 3 cubic feet that I got with the subs and they are crying for a better box.

So I just picked up a used sub and Im trying to figure out what it is, any ideas?

Thats what Im thinking, Would I be able to use a fi recone for the HC on it?

Hi all, So a month or so ago I was driving around listening to my system and had a young kid in my backseat and he kicked my amp rcas breaking them half off in the amp. Long story short my mids on my Hertz HSK components blew when I turned it up not realizing this and now sound like crap. I currently don't have the budget to go out and spend $500 on a new set. Problem is I loved these speakers and really don't want to downgrade much if possible so my only real option I see is going active. My System currently: In a 2003 Dodge Dakota Crew cab. Kenwood bt948HD link: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-a1evnpn0JP0/p_113BT948HD/Kenwood-KDC-BT948HD.html 6.5" Hertz HSK components 2xSSA ICON 15" subs tuned to 32 hz in 7.5 cubic foot box approx Crescendo BC2000D Eclipse 50x4 amp. My Question is what are my options for going active? I have 3 amps I could use, old eclipse 50x4 at 4 ohms MB Quart FX240 (80x2@4 ohms) Kenwood KAC746 Link http://manual.kenwood.com/files/B64-1176-00.pdf I'd really like to use one of the amps I have if possible, Would any of these amps do the trick combined with my deck? I've looked at Madisound and Partsexpress for speakers and will get some opinions on them later. Budgets around $300ish total Thanks for the help and hopefully I can get some guidance from M5 and any other knowledgeable members on active systems

Thinking of going active, suggestions?

Ok I'll look into the er18 and see how the tweeter would work in the mounting location. Which of them would be there best match with the er18 between the xt19 and LPG? -

Sorry, I was going from memory. The 26 is what you want, the textile version was lackluster in comparison.Aluminum does not get harsh naturally, it takes a poor designer and a bad installer to do that. These are NOT harsh at all. Upgrading the amp is always a good idea, but just ignore 4ohm drivers. Generally speaking they are not the right idea and actually have way more cons than pros. The other compromises you'd acquire looking for a 4 won't net you anything positive. You may be very surprised at their output on your now 25w amp. The XT19 is great off axis. Do beware trying to play it low though. I sold my set a while back, but think somewhere in the 3k range they started to not like things. The LPG can play down to about 4k. *in somewhat normal installations. Ok so I'd be ok with either of those options for tweeters, if I go with the LPGs Id want a mid that could play up to 4k or so vs with the XT19 I could get a mid that could play up to 3500ish? I know this is a stupid question but am I only looking at midbass speakers? woofers in car applications would require an in door enclosure correct? A few Im looking at Scanspeak 18W/8434G-00 Discovery 7" Midwoofer or http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/scanspeak-woofers-6-7/scanspeak-classic-p17wj00-6.5-woofer/ or http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-6-fullrange/fostex-ff165wk-6.5-full-range/ Would any of these be a good combo with either the LPG or XT19? Thanks for your help and advice -
Holy crap man, Very impressive lifts, any tips on how to bring your squat up? I find doing heavy squats I feel like I might lose my balance. My numbers are only 315 bench, 405 deadlift and 275 squat. Ive only been lifting for less than a year but your video was an inspiration to go big

Looks like the LPG 25NFA is no longer sold by madisound and the 26 is a aluminum which Ive heard can get quite harsh? Would these be a good option for a ring radiator tweeter? Its overall diameter is 3.7" so It should just fit. Vifa XT19TD00-04 3/4" Dual Radiator Tweeter Also If I go 8 ohm Id need to probably upgrade my amp as well as both my 4 channels only put out 50@4 ohms, -

That diameters should work as long as its under 4 inches otherwise it would stick out and if mounting depth isn't too deep, do you have any models of large format tweeters I should look into for specs? depth etc Also is there any other good sites than parts express and Madisound for raw drivers with the models you've listed? Madisound only has the LPG26NA or the SEAS Presige 27TFFNC/G and only has the ER18RNX which is 8 ohm. I will be doing lots of deadening but dont have the time to build door enclosures for the mid. THanks for the help -

So I'd be best upgrading to a 80PRS and using one of my 4 channel amps (50x4) and keeping a simple system as stated with a paper mid, would I be better off with a good off axis mid or would it be worth the work to change the location of the tweeter to on axis? Would that open up my options for drivers? Im limited to maybe 2 inches diameter and 2 inch depth if I use my current location, once again if it would make a difference in sound if I fiberglassed my a pillars and mounted a large format tweeter on or off axis and then im not limited for size. -

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately i'm in Canada so shipping usually isn't worth buying stuff used unless its a steal. Would an IA 6.4 amp be able to run a simple 2 way system as it has the x1 or x10 crossovers then combined with my decks crossover for fine tuning? -

I would rather not replace just the mids as my one tweeter has a slight buzz that makes me wonder if it is going as well. I really liked the Hertz speakers, They could mostly keep up to my subs on loud bass/rap and were not harsh but still very detailed. I have heard some Hertz MLKs that were ran active and found they were amazing as far as detail and loudness but the tweeters were quite harsh (could have probably toned them down with adjustments) My sound preference on speakers is it has to be able to get loud and keep its clarity. Many cheaper sets sound muddy when turned up much, I also dislike harsh tweeters and prefer a bit more mellow and silky sounding tweeter as long as it is still detailed. My friend has some Focals mid level components in his truck, they are either the low level polyglass or the top model of the lower series. I am not too fond of them, they are very detailed and loud highs but can get harsh and bright, I prefer the bit more mellow highs of my Hertz tweeters. as far as for mids, Id like a decent amount of midbass but would rather have a set that blends nicely with the tweeters than just boomy down low and loses its clarity on the higher end. As for mounting I currently have my mids in factory door location which is low right in the front of the door. Then my tweeter are mounted right on the top of my door panel beside my a-pillars. Im am open to fiber glassing for the tweeter, currently my tweeters are just barely off axis. I would rather not cut into my door panels if possible which makes a 3 way setup not very easy to do unless I put the mid up high? My deck has a 3 band parametric equalizer and basic front, rear, subwoofer crossover. I have 2 4 channel amps and a 2 channel amps I could use (listed on last post) Ive seen the mini dsp recommended a lot and could try one of them for proccessing. My deck is also starting to get old and I dont think it has all the functions I will want for active so I may be open to picking up an 80prs if I can find a good deal and skip the dsp? Im not too concerned on speaker choices yet as Im just planning and making sure I get the needed processing set up for active first. And will have a look and ask some opinions on set ups once I get there
