3 ported on 1500 or 4 sealed on 2K
Quentin Jarrell replied to rambronco's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
yes, I'm aware what 2nd and 4th order is. However if you have any experiance what so ever in designing enclosures or actually took the time to learn a little bit you would understand that a sealed enclosure will never have a lower roll off point than a lower tuned vented enclosure. (go back to my first post I said almost as a high tuned vented enclosure could be higher, but who is gonna tune a sub enclosure above 45 hertz) To make it a little easier for you since you obviously didn't bother taking the time to model anything I drew you a little picture. -

I'd expect the vas to be around 15-20 liters giving the other parameters. -

Yea I calculated it but I believe that the VAS has to be wrong seems a little low Going by the parameters you need .08 cubic feet for a q of .7 -

Nvm. That was for their other 8. -

Per their site they recommend .5 sealed. I haven't modeled it so I'm not sure what the Q is at that volume. -
Just unplug the RCA from the bass amp and see if the crackling in the highs stop At the amp
-
Don't waste your time with all that yet. You say the sub does not increase with volume? Unplug the RCA at the amp and verify what the voltage is doing. It should stop increasing at the point when the sub volume would stop increasing. I'm betting either a bad sub amp or bad head unit. If it was just the highs fking up I'd say the crossovers were more than likely mounted in the doors and got wet.

I haven't a clue what you said and I highly doubt you do either. -
Hey mods. Ya'll need to get a better pair of boots.

3 ported on 1500 or 4 sealed on 2K
Quentin Jarrell replied to rambronco's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
No, completely incorrect. Almost every ported enclosure will have at least a quarter octave lower F3 than sealed. -
It works/loads/posts just fine here. I haven't been able to log in for a while You gotta be 10% smarter than what you are trying to operate.

Asking recommendations for 2 dc audio level 2 15s
Quentin Jarrell replied to Laxboy34's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
9.2 cubic feet gross. like I said it's gonna be extremely tight. Maybe if you have T/S parameters a little modeling could be done -

Two 15's behind the back seat? If so that's gonna be an extremely tight fit. -
(4) 12" Ported Enclosure
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
Figured I'd just put the amps on the back. The rectangular opening towards the bottom will be a false floor for access to the spare tire. The car has factory vents on both sides of the fender wells that I will be attaching exhaust fans to pull air for cooling the amp area. -
Never used the Maxis. But the ITP hole shots are good. Sure these would be just as good.

The problem is all the programs figure port velocity based on small signal parameters. By the time the sub hits xmax it's cms has changed by at least 50 percent affecting piston acceleration and Fo which is directly related port velocity peak point and speed. You're better off using Small's formula and using proper xmax figure.
-
and as brad said about considering the end port lenght. Most formulas already account for this. For example the folowing formula: Lv= (1.463 x 10^7 x R^2) / (fb^2 x Vb) -1.463R The red part of the formula accounts for end correction.
-
Don't design the port based on velocity. All of these programs design based on small parameters. when a properly designed driver reaches xmax it's cms changes 50%. This change(stiffening) of the suspension affects piston velocity which is directly related to the velocity of air going through the port. Because these programs can not account for this they are inaccurate. Instead use Small's minimum port area formula: dv=39.37(fb x Vd)^.5 dv= minimum port diameter fb= tuning frequency in hz Vd= cone displacement volume in cubic meters: = sd x xmax NOTE: xmax is NOT the rating most manufacturers use which will be stated as 70% BL rating. It is defined as coil over hang. which means measure how much the coil seen above the top plate.

Besides your logos all over it, that cure sheet is a perfect knock-off of what Brian Schmitt has been handing out to his training customers for a decade. I would say that's where you originally got the info from but you would never catch him laying torn mat on onto anything. He ALWAYS uses a full sheet and ALWAYS wets out the mat before applying it to the work piece. And that roller is not for wet out it's for removing air. And that black pigment, it's for making bubbles easier to spot.- 2 replies

I vote Brad gets his mod status put on probation for not having a build log up.

That's a whole different can of worms.

No it will not get louder with larger speaker wire.

Sadly Mrs. Gates passed away a couple months ago:( Her vehicle and trailer were sold to a friend of mine who will be bringing it to various shows in her memory. No shit ? Damn, she was in pretty good health the last time I talked to her. Sad to hear she was an awsome person.
