Wire Size Comparison
Quentin Jarrell replied to hdrox88's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
If you can whack a foot of each off and remove the jacket. Weigh each one then weigh say 50 strands of each so you can calculate strand count and wire gauge. From there you can calculate voltage drop. -

Thanks guys! With everything I've read about them over the years I'm looking forward to playing with them and seeing how they do. The Bravox mids have surprised me at just how well they do. It doesn't seem very common to me to find a mid from many component sets that can be felt in your chest. I figure that if the Bravox mids are doing that good a real and actual woofer should be an improvement. Plus, if the size specifications I found in an old thread on the forum here are accurate I shouldn't even have to modify the baffles on the doors. So that's a plus too. I went to install the Peerless HDS's I bought from hondakilla98 but I'm going to have to make a couple of 1/4" thick rings to adapt them to the baffles. When the MLI-65's get here I will try them out first (cuz it's easier) and probably even try dropping in the Fountek FR88's as well to see what kind of improvement they make over the FE85's. As always I'll report back my thoughts and findings. Bravox speakers have or at one point did have design input from Vance Dickason.

The pm and first email said you wanted to change but the second email said disregard the first. If you would like to change it let me know on the next payment and I'll recalculate it for you.

Port area is not affected by volume so as long as you are tuning at 32 keep it around 50-75 per sub

right but if the head unit puts out 25 watts a channel I'll need to drop voltage from 10 to 1 volt. A sni-15 would be the easiest way to do it. -

I just don't have the time right now to fabricate a source in the dash. I'm not gonna spend the money on a radio when I can get a tablet or one of those tiny Intel computers. I haven't measured output on the headunit but I have enough headroom in power as long as the outputs arent over 6db off I can equalize the bandwith down with the DSP. I'm sure output on the factory unit is under 40 watts so if I use a SNI-15 (10:1) I'll be under 1.25 volts. I'll be using (2) 2x4's. One for tweeter and midrange, one for midbass and bass. -

It can, but that isn't the right question. The real question is for what listening levels will doppler distortion and output over run the 4. The goal of a 3 way is to give the FR driver enough support on both ends, but to try to invade on its response as little as possible. Easiest way to have a point source is to use a single driver. Obviously in those mounting locations and with the low frequency noise floor in a car a single 4 on each side isn't enough. This and since the midbass is off axis i don't want it to climb into vocal range too much and throw off staging. As long as is wants and doesn't sound like shit I'll be happy. On another note I really want to keep the factory head unit for the time being. I should be able to use a 10:1 signal reducer from the factory outputs directly into the DSP right? -

Alrighty here's what I thing i'm gonna do. The 6.5 in the door W6-1721 sealed in the door .55 cft gives me a F0 at 183 and F3 at 66 hz. Due to the midbass being off axis in the door and its a dedicated midbass I want to keep it under 120 hertz. The 4inch of course is in the kicks on axis. If I seal them I'm looking at a F0 at ~300 and a f3 of ~125. This will give me a null in frequency response between 120 and 300. So I'm gonna port the 4" giving me a f0 at ~125 and a f3 of 86 hz. Any comments? -

DSP's and REAL amplifiers
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
DSP's are WAY outside my skill set as far as designing is concerned. As with my other product I team up with the best in the business. The DSP won't be any different it's just that this supplier will not allow it's clients to divulge who it OEM's for. They are capable of building anything that's needed. It's just that anything ODM and not OEM requires a 1,000 unit MOQ so gotta make sure all the features are right and it's not a pain in the ass to use. -
