1. He didn't set it properly for no clipping. That is physically impossible with music. 2. Clipping can not damage a speaker unless the excess power created by clipping exceeds the thermal rating of the speaker. 3. Tuning higher can give a "boost" in response making it a little louder but this can alter the sound making it undesirable. There is more to designing a box than this. You can also gain this boost by making the enclosure volume larger at the same frequency. This is a more effective way to get boost from an enclosure. 4. playing music below tuning the speaker will exponentially move easier below tuning. As long as the subsonic filter is adjusted accordingly it will compensate.

I will be offering a three year warranty on DSS drivers and I need a way to track them so a sticker with a serial number will be placed in the rebate on the rear of the motors to hide the tool mark from being turned on the lathe. The below logos are what I have been working on (be gentle it's my first time using Corel). Which one do y'all prefer? The blue will be a royal blue and the white will be brushed aluminum.

That will be posted soon. Typical stuff, motor falling apart, sagging suspension, ect. Coils will NOT be covered, nor acts of god, cosmetic changes, vandalism, screw driver through the surround, ect. Stipulation for 3 year warranty will be a filed warranty card of original owner and recones and or basket size changes must be done by DSS to maintain warranty. -
"Primo" subwoofer updated with heat ring
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
Just in time for my play money! I'm going to be pushing to get them ready for the middle of income tax time. I'll have enough baskets and soft parts left over from the Ethos production so the only thing I'll have to have made will be the motors. -

Types of wood for light weight boxes?
Quentin Jarrell replied to EPerez's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
The test box I sent Pat for my 15 was built from the 5 or 7 ply hardwood stuff from home depot. Their "birch" plywood. It was 39 x 20 x 20 with a triple layer baffle and weighed 91 pounds at FedEx -

You would see a hump in response around tuning. -
You ain't fer enough south either. We can actually grow that stuff ourselves round here.

Speaking of bearings. I dropped off the company vehicle a 2010 Ranger for service and it needed new pinion boots, rear axle seals were leaking which were both under watrentee. Front hubs were loose (truck had slight vibration even when new). They recommend repacking bearings and tightening, why in the world would you not spend an extra 60 bucks and just change both bearings while you got the hub apart?

comparison pictures massive Magnetar coil
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
Daily coil will be no problem. Still a beefy ~3,000 watt rms coil, but still big hump in response due to BL. MFF on daily coil is in the 400 range, still really too high for a "musical" sub but still capable of playing music. The SPL coil will pose some problems: 1. motor force WAY WAY beyond musical levels. I highly doubt it'll sound decent at all due to response on paper. But there has never been a motor this strong built that I or any of my suppliers are aware of so it'll just have to be built to find out. 2. Again motor force, it has twice the motor force of a IA warden which actually has more force than the DDZ. Very small amounts of power will excite the coil, sensitivity with 10 hard spiders which is equivalent to 3,650 grams at one mm, or taking 9 pounds of weight to move the coil one mm, is around 102 DB at one watt one meter. This much force will more than likely rip the spiders from the coil and frame and might crush the cone. I am working on custom triple rings and other stuff along with a better glue than CA to assemble them. 3. The weight of the motor. It weighs 96 pounds. Serious stress will be created on the basket so this will have to be looked at. On the other hand theoretically due to the incredibly high motor force and sensitivity it would be possible to run a "normal" spider pack and run small amounts of power to achieve xmax. For example you could run 1,000 watts to the sub and it would be just as loud as a sub that is rated for 2 or 3 thousand watts. Think of it as a cheater sub. Now this is just based on physics and may not work. But if you take a speaker with a sensitivity of 102 and compare it to a speaker with a sensitivity of 87 then the higher sensitivity speaker should be louder on the same power. -
