I'm not sure I understand. Casual but a tuxedo? Usually the James bond tux style is the pinical of fashion. Extreme formal. Do you have a picture of what you want? The budget of 3k each means $3000 for each suit and you want more than one? I will say this, with 3000 bucks, depending on your area you could probably have a bespoke suit made to your measurements. I guess I worded that wrong. I want a tux that doesn't look like a Wedding tux. As if I were at a formal gathering people would not say why in the hell did he wear a wedding tux to the party. Per each, we are getting married at the biltmore and I'm paying for the groomsmen's attire as well. Defiantly looking for something custom fitted.

Why even buy subs? Rant inside: Tech related.
Quentin Jarrell replied to b0r's topic in Advanced Discussion
Ever 3 db power is doubled or halved if -3db so if you use a -15db hertz tone at 100 watts out put on the amp and play a 0db tone then the amp would put out 1,600 watts. -

Suit people, I need some ideas for wedding tux. Something "casual" looking like a 007 Tom Ford suit. Budget is around 3k each from head to toe. I know NOTHING about attire besides blue jeans and t-shirts.

DMM to troubleshoot a channel
Quentin Jarrell replied to Maddenkid2011's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
like I said above you can stick the meter probes on the RCA output on the headunit. one on the inside one on the outside and it should be putting out voltage. -
Solo X 15 (V.2) Sub-woofer build log
Quentin Jarrell replied to Purplehaze's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
That's one really nice looking driver. I really like the cap. BL is low due to the Mms. If you run the test with a given Mmd say 350 you will see that it will increase a bit. I wouldn't be too concerned I'm sure it'll do well. -
My grandpa found out at a yearly check up he has leukemia. He's 78 years old. Doctors said he may have had it for years. hasn't progressed one bit over the past few months

DMM to troubleshoot a channel
Quentin Jarrell replied to Maddenkid2011's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
yep, the signal coming from your head unit is nothing more than AC voltage and the amp does nothing more than increase that voltage. -
DMM to troubleshoot a channel
Quentin Jarrell replied to Maddenkid2011's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
turn DMM to AC volts. stick one probe on the inner part of the rca and one on the outside. If the voltage dances with the music then your rca is fine. If so hook the rca to the amp and to the same at the out put of the amp. if no voltage then that channel is not working -

"Primo" subwoofer updated with heat ring
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
3d rendering of the motor with the ring. As you can see cool air will be sucked by the pumping action of the coil directly into the gap while radiant heat will be absorbed by the heat ring. Final dimensions may change but it shows the general idea. -
Y'all some old puckers.

It would be cast and then polish cut. -
"Primo" subwoofer updated with heat ring
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
As is the heat ring gives the coil ~100 inchs^2 of surface area to radiate heat onto. Or and area 10 x 10 inches. If you have ever touched the motor of a sub after playing a while you can image how much heat this could help get rid of. Especially since cool air will be pulled directly over the heat ring directly onto the coil. -
"Primo" subwoofer updated with heat ring

I had a long talk with Enrique the other day. And he gave some suggestions to improve the overall performance of the driver. 1. First and for-most the gaps needed tweaking. The troughs between the gaps were a little high in flux. So I needed to seperate the gaps a little. In the process of doing this I decreased the thickness of the plates, increasing the flux intensity while doing so actually allowing less magnet needed in the motor. 2. Being I did not need as much magnet between the top plates I was able to include a heat ring between the bottom top plate and the upper magnet. The ring will have sinks on the interior and exterior a kin to a amplifier heat sink. The ring itself will (8) channels cut into it radiating outward. The pumping action will pull air from outside of the motor directly onto the coil while also pulling air across the heat sinks further drwing heat from the coil. 3. Due to the geometry changes on the top plates I was also able to shrink the coil 2mm 4. faraday rings were added to the pole which is more effective than having faraday rings outside the coil. Doing this we get less impedance rise due to less heat, less induction due to shorter coil, less induction due to faraday rings on the pole, and increased power rating. Also the aluminum heat ring helps reduce flux modulation of the gap keeping BL more linear. Below is a cut view of the motor and the heat ring. The heat ring has been colored blue in the motor. Depending on the capabilities the dimensions of the sinks could change. -

There is a company here in NO that had all that 10 years ago. The company was bought out by someone and it got squashed.

Talked to Klippel today. Gotta see if any of my suppliers carry crown.

They rated their amps at one ohm. Below one ohm will void the warranty.

As the title says I am looking for competitors to do R&D on a large SPL driver. For testing purposes only one driver will be available in either a 12, 15, or 18. This is a very large driver weighing about 105 pounds. Below is a comparison picture of the driver's coil next to a Ethos and FI BTL N3 coil. The coil is 95mm long 3 inch 8 layer dual one ohm coil with an Re of .9 ohms per coil. The coil produces a BL of 51.5 and a motor force factor of 1,484. I am looking for a seasoned competitor with a few years experience preferably someone that has attended nationals a few times. If you are interested send me a PM with your info.

LOOKING FOR SEASONED COMPETITORS FOR R&D
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
Do not know. No one is producing a subwoofer with a motor this strong. This is why it's R&D and I need someone with experience with large drivers like the IA Warden or DD Z -
Ethos 12 and 15 final pricing and preorder
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
Yes, they just have to be at the address the package is sent to. FedEd has three options. The first is they just drop it off and the driver marks it as delivered. The second is anyone can sign for it, a neighbor for example. The third is the option I use which someone at the address must sign. From there is there are any issues I have the name of the person and the signature that they signed logged in my data base. From here on out I will just set up the shipment before hand so I have the tracking number on hand and can add the email address of the customer so both I and the customer can be updated during the shipping progress. -

I'm gonna try to get them. My FedEx account is being used however if my email address isn't entered at the time of processing I won't know until the package arrives at the destination. They will however need Direct Signature. They will not be left on doorsteps unattended. -
