Spent about 5 years studying photography and developing photos during gifted visual arts classes and I don't remember 99.99999999% of it.

DEEP DEEP competitor discounts
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
At this price, averaging shipping charges, I am making less than $5 dollar profit. This sale is all about getting them in the hands of people active in the community and hopefully have them have as good as an experience with them as Jon has. -

I had a sample of this driver sent along with the Ethos production run. I don't have pics of the actual motor yet. When Nick slows down a bit he will send some to me with some group shots off all the motors I had made. This driver offers 22.5mm xmax per overhang method. It will be ~27mm per the typical 70% BL rating. The entire stoke of the coil is covered in aluminum faraday rings. All the way from the bottom plate up to about 20mm above the top plate. As long as prices stay the same I plan on releasing the Beta version which uses open tooled soft parts for $375 shipped for the 12 inch. RMS rating should be in the 1,000 watt range and enclosure recommendations will be small with a very low roll off, around 25 hertz with a flat response curve. Below is a drawing of the motor, may have some actual pics next week. Below is the coil. It is a pure copper 8 layer dual one ohm coil with 22.5mm winding width. Induction will be very low on this motor. pic of the Primo coil next to the Ethos coil.

"Primo" subwoofer updated with heat ring
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
SPL will suffer due to lower Xmax Take a look at the pinned Ethos parameters thread you will see that recommended enclosures will play into the twenties. I won't go into everything that I have going on as that might change but as of now the DSS stuff will be like the Ethos. Only thing will change is Xmax and power handling. Besides that I have the Magnetar sample that has a retarded amount of motor force used in an SPL application and still very stout motor force for daily. -
Yep broke for me too. Mark and Aaron must be having a private meeting.

JL uses some crazy dimensions on their stuff. Id need to know motor dimensions for coils. frame size ect.
-
If you could get some measurements if the motor without taking it apart that would be great. I'd hate to see you pull the cone off and not be able to fix it. In the mean time I'll start on a list of everything I'll need to know in order to recone it.
-
Some xbl^2 motors. ~500 watts rms with ~22mm xmax. I'm working on getting outdated or OEM motors from my supplier so cross my fingers and I'll have a few to play around with.
-
I don't see it being a problem. I'm still working on a template to make the process a little easier. I'd need info like gap clearances and other stuff. My supplier is at finals this week so everything is backed up. I have an order of a bunch of parts due to come in when they get slowed down. Give me a day or two and I'll get a "fill out sheet" worked out to get all the info needed. Is it just a fresh recone you are needing?

At the moment I only have 12 and 15 baskets. prices include 15 cone =37.5 12 cone =34.99 spier with 100 amp leads = $18 spiders with no leads= 4.5 DSS poly dust cap = $8.80 15 basket ~ TBD but expected $38 18 basket ~TBD but expected $34 4 ounce glue kit ~$30 terminals $3.5 each set. 4 layer coil $39.85 This includes assembly and shipping final assembled sub back to you. So for example If you had a Incriminator death row motor like above and wanted a 15 you would be looking at ~$188.15 to purchase all the parts have me assemble it and ship it back to you. The process involves me using SpeaD software to model the motor and build the sub per your working environments. Normal shipping and boxing of a sub like this will run you abut 50 bucks so you would basically get all the parts assembled for ~140 bucks The are also deep discounts for multiple purchases. I'm in the process of getting all of my pricing on directspeakersupplies.com

never thought about what would happen if I lost it on a trip. At least I'm still in the US. Not on a bigger vacation. Then ill be really fucked. Also atleast it wasn't my whole wallet. Worst case ill have my wife rent me a car before she flys back, ill just drive. Maybe even take my 3yo boy with me on the road trip. Hey this could be a good thing.I'm not a deeply religious man but I believe fully that things happen for a reason.

(4) 12" Ported Enclosure
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
yea I had a lot of work in it. The clutch was going out in the car and it wasnt worth it to have it changed so I just traded in the car. -
Yea, the old school vibe is great but only to a point. I was planning on purchasing an LP 8002 but the price vs return wasn't doing it for me. I'd love to do some Crystals. Those were always the ones I couldn't afford, but I decided I will wait. I'll probably buy the Helix SPXL1000B (I sell Helix so price is very low), and wait for the Primos. I misread his thread confusing overhang with underhung, but these are still the woofers I want to run. Unfortunately I'll be waiting for awhile, but that's ok. I'm stockpiling parts for the build anyway. Q's woofers really impress me, from the C/S, the honesty, the information, everything. And I was pretty much wanting to buy two 12-15's to run sealed, and the Primo fits every single aspect I'm looking for. I'm calling you out Q! I'm your guinea pig. FYI The original stroker pro with the clear dust cap was designed by Enrique Stilles and is the Patentee of the motor technology. He is one of the engineers I deal with and the Primo uses the same technology however the Primo uses a heat ring and the stroker used the entire basket as a radiator. The Primo's is a bit better as it pulls air directly to through the gap though. Its about a year away.

ETHOS 15 PARAMETERS AND KLIPPEL GRAPHS
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
enclosures listed at top -
I itch just thinking about it
-
Oh yes, but as soon as Q said he might make an underhung sub, I nixed the Ethos. Might even wait for this new Gem I won't be making an underhung. MMAG yes but not underhung. Just about the only thing that makes an underhang different than overhang is the inductance increase which in a subwoofer your not going to hear the difference (inductance rating is at 1k hertz anyway). If "SQ" is what you want at a decent amount of output then you are going to want overhang. Just as an example. The Ethos' motor is linear (point of audible distortion) to 32.5mm one way. You would need a HUGE top plate for an underhung motor to be linear that much. My softparts are linear to ~23mm one way. Technically the sub as a whole would be classified as linear to 23mm one way. As in no audible distortion up till that point. This is verified by Klippel and results has been posted here on the site. I challenge any company here or on any other forum to show proof of their published parameters.

Ultracaps are they worth it?
Quentin Jarrell replied to pmureika's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
It's the same exact stuff that Miller has been using in their welding machines for a decade. I replaces six caps on my mig welder about six months ago and they had the same model number as these "super caps" some people are using. Only difference is I paid 25 bucks for them from Miller and these audio people are paying 70 on eBay for them. Batteries don't have enough risistanse to limit a 5 second burp. The only way you are going to gain anything is if you didn't have sufficient enough reserve in the first place.
