THE EPIC MAGNETAR THREAD
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
should have it playing in a few weeks. The current gap is larger than it needs to be but it'll give me a close idea of where the soft parts need to be and what it'll do on power. -
Ethos 12 parameter sheet
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
The formula used to calculate this rating uses the FS of the system as it's the point of greatest xmax. High pass filter is not a concern as cone movement is reduced with higher frequencies. -

THE EPIC MAGNETAR THREAD

So I screwed up the modeling. Had twice the amperage set. BL should be 19.4 at 1.6 ohms with a mff of 235. below is the fea screen shot and coil sheet. -

THE EPIC MAGNETAR THREAD
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
Just received an email on the finalized coil that'll be in the Magnetar. As soon as photobucket is back up I'll upload the FEA and coil spec sheet. I will have to adjust the top plates and make the gap tighter as this coil is a good bit smaller than the spl coil. The finalized one ohm coil will have an Re of .8 ohms. Seriesed at 1.6 ohms the motor will have a modeled 38.7 BL which gives it a motor force factor of ~937. Still pretty stout for a daily driver. With this coil it'll have a linear xmax of ~47.5mm and will have a rearward mechanical clearance of 62.5mm. The new soft parts for the frame being worked on that'll be avaliable this fall will be linear to ~55mm one way so they will support this motor. The coil is a 8 layer flat alluminum coil so it should handle ~3,000 - ~4,000 rms and 10 k for burps. we will see what happens once I get the coils in. -

You'd be better off with two ported. Cheaper, a ton cheaper when considering power. Would be louder with a MUCH lower roll off and will not have any less "SQ". There is something we call masking effect. In laymen's terms it means that the louder you play your system the more distortion you can induce into the system and it not be audible. When you get above 140 db especially in the sub realm you have to get into 40 to 50 percent distortion for it to be audible. So don't get TOO concerned with SQ when trying to get loud. Also I use a true progressive spider pack on my drivers. This basically means the spider exponentially gets tighter as the cone moves. This does several things but the most important is it creates 4th order distortion. This does two things. First it gives a phsycoacoustical effect making the sound appear to be louder and second it increases the appearance of transient response making the sound appear to be warmer and tighter. So in some cases distortion can be your friend. -

No I used the 12 templete for the 15 and looked over it. I'll address the transfer function. -
PM or email me your list with your paypal address and I'll send a paypal invoice. I do t like accepting money unless we both have a proper receipt.

This is the deal with ratings. Smaller companies I don't have a clue how they come up with their ratings. All of the big boys use Klippel to verify parameters. They then use the CEA rating (Pat actually had a hand in setting those specs). Basically CEA ratings as power is considered is the power given the will cause a shift in parameters that will make the driver act differently from its original parameters. Basically is says the driver need x amount of power to act as intended. I do the same thing but take it a step forward and give the recommended enclosure for the power needed. It's a bit complicated as this will change in given alignments. The thing to remember that all this all about a rough round about figure NOTHING dealing with transducers are concrete as eveverything changes as the driver is played. We only try to get as close to real world as possible. The main thing as a consumer you want to look at is Large Signal Parameters. Most engineers do not understand this and it very easy to understand. Parameter of a sub played to Xmax and warm is Very different from that same driver played to 1mm. So would you want specs that showed the driver at 1mm (who only runs to 1mm Xmax) or do you want specs that show how the driver acts under normal operating conditions.

[email protected] Email with your personal information to receive free software from Vance Dickason to help with enclosure and crossover design. Even has a function to figure transfer function.

redrockacoustics.com The ONLY certified lab by Klippel in the US to test transducers. And the ONLY lab Vance Dickason uses Email is [email protected]. Also I'm trying to get Pat to get a Cloud running for his new transducer modeler with monthly subscriptions to help the DIY's model their frankenwoofers. Maybe a few email would help persued him. As far as I know nothing exists like this for the public.

I am stoked for you Steve! I have spent quite a bit of time in Southlake area. Thats a great neighborhood!thanks dude. Hopefully it all works out with the inspection. Has new roof, new pebble tec pool, and a few other things.I have big plans for the house after closing. Can't go wrong as its only 20 years old. You REALLY cant go wrong with masonry exterior. Does the pool have a hot tub section built in? I assume you are moving your construction biz up to the DFW area?the pool does not have the spa portion. We plan to add an above ground one near the house. Looming at the Arial view, none of these houses had the hot tub. Just a pool. The biggest draw for us to this house was that it had a pool and a decent yard.My company did ask me to move up there. Sadly I don't own the company though. Back in '09 I started my own subcontractor company. When it got slow I took a job with my competition and closed up shop. Fast forward a few years. that company got bought out by a firm in Minneapolis. They are the ones who asked me to run all the projects in north Texas. My wife works from home, so she can live in any major city that her company (Nike) has an office in. Any chance she has some pull with R&D? Got a shoe idea that is not on the market at all, but cannot afford a patent. LOLJ Patents are cheap. You would more than likely be considered a micro firm therefore fees would be under $100 bucks for filing. Then you have maintenance fee which aren't bad. If you need a patent attorney. Here is a good one. Richard c calrderwood. Thanks man! Just gotta figure out how to build a prototype. I have sketches, but nothing more solid. J Give Nick wright a call. He has access to damn near everything. His proto charged are extremely reasonable. I've inquired about shoelaces and wasn't a problem. Even if he can't contact a factory to build it I know he can get a engineering drawing made up for you.

Ethos 15 parameter sheet
Quentin Jarrell replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
mJust a noob trying to figure out all this adobe stuff. I did a good bit in school in gifted visual arts classes but that was over a decade a ago. I'll get the hang if it in a few weeks. These will be added to a full color catalog that will ship with product. The next page I'll be working on will be the recommended boxes with 3d model and cut sheet and expected frequency response. I'll also add in recommended port area for a variety of tunings. Basically everything needed to build the two boxes for each sub I listed plus a few tips to help with your own alignments. -

It would be awesome if the state did that here. In the eastern and southern part of the country everybody is snowed in. And there was a 2 day warning that snow is coming. Still, people chose to travel, pregnant women chose to stay home instead of going to the nearest hospital. And now that snow is 10 ft deep in some areas, the media is going crazy over people stuck somewhere and pregnant women who can't get to the hospital. Try being in louisiana where we get freezing rain every 10 years. There were over 200 wrecks the other day and tomorrow everything is locked down for 1 inches of snow and freezing rain.

help me out. I want something like the Mc Donald arches..Somthing that when seen you KNOW its Direct sound solutions. I can build a hell of a box but my artistic abilty is lacking. It' sbeen over a decade since I delt with visual arts Oh trust me I can't do better but I think that it can be better. I know that you take a lot of pride in your brand and would like to see other options. Maybe Stefan can do something? And again this is just me, try to get a few designs and make a poll maybe? my main issue is learning curve with the programs. I can sling out stuff on paper like no body's business. Getting it to work in adobe is my down fall. I just don't have the experienc ewith the programs
