yeah, that is what I am thinking. But that calls for a new amp also. I could always grab two for now and a new Orion 2500D in a couple of weeks. this could get ugly.
-
I know it made it to Florida fine. but has anyone heard anything from Bob??
-
I think I might just do it when they come out.
-
production date yet???
-
I must say that is the first time i have ever heard that. The only thing I ever here about this amp is how damn powerful it is and how it can be run down to the .5 ohm with no problem at all. I have always wanted one, if I could just pull myself to running one instead of a PPI, I have a real strong love for PPI powerclass and art series.
-
me too, I am ready for a new Mag!!! gotta sell a mag too.
-
nice, thanks for posting your thoughts and review.

Another satisfied GM owner. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hahaha.... go nissan.

if you are saying that competing in any way or form is not fun and it is only fun if you pull off the big numbers/records than too bad. I use to take my previous car and setup to comps and enter in various classes. I never won out right, nor did I post huge numbers. but I had a freakin blast every time I went out and just hangin around checkin out others' setups and putting my through the ringer. so yeah, I will keep that attitude and you will soon see me at a comp with my Mag and a smile no matter what the score. and oh yeah, you don't want to talk SQ, I am in the process of building a sq machine. Of course that is what I love more.
-
that's the attitude I am talking about. It's all for fun!!!

First off I want to start out by saying a big Thank You to Nick for the oppurtunity to demo the proto. Now on to business. There is a defect (if you call it) in this proto. Nick can explain it better, and has in other threads. but the VC makes a weird noise at high excursions do to a bad chrome job and it leaking onto the pole, etc. But this will not be presant in the 15s when produced. So as to performance of the driver, I was expecting a bit better than my current Mag but to my surprise it was way more than just a bit better. Taking the VC problem out of the equation, this driver is much louder than the previous Mag. On my alpine HU it reaches the loudness of my Mag at level 25 on just 20/21. This has to do with the new drivers being much more efficient. The build quality is top notch on this driver, as you can see in my previous pics posted. It is very evident how much SI put into their new motor and build of the driver. As far as SQ goes: well remember this is SI we are talking about, SQ is in their blood. This new driver delivers some hell of SQ, taking on fast bass beats like a champ then rolling over and dropping the lows with the best of them. I listen to alot of jambands/rock and this is what I really look for in a sub. Compared to the previous version I would say this is a couple steps up in SQ as this driver has a faster response than the previous mag. One of the tracks I used to test out how well it rolls the bass notes is the first track off Speaker box's cd. and it hits every bass note like you want it to and really rolls the bass notes over from the low lows to the higher notes with ease. When I put in one of my favorite discs, Widespread Panic, and jamed out to a Space Wrangler the Mag really handled Schools' bass bombs with no problem. towards the end of the song he is slamming some mean, hard, fast bass notes then just completly drops the bomb and sends some of the lowest bass out possible and the mag absolutely rattles the hell out of the head, with the chest caving in. (if you are not familiar with Panic, you might not understand). Next came some KORN, and yet again I was impressed as hell how well it handles the kick drums in this, they really put it through the test. I used the same box and amp I currently have in my sig to do the demoing, no adjustments needed that way I could get a real close comparison the my Mag. I can't believe how impressed I am with this new driver, even with the vc/pole problem it still pumps out some mean bass. The new Mag has an extremely promising future in many applications. My thoughts of possibly running dual mags has gone out the window as this sucker is quite a bit louder and more responsive. So I will be happy as hell just to get my hands on one of these whenever they are available. To those that are left in the demo ring, enjoy this mag, don't get as worried as I did when you hear the noise from the vc/pole. It will not be presant in the mags when produced. If I am leaving anything out, sorry, this is done in a hurry. But overall: WOW I can not wait to get one of these in. If you are after SPL, this driver is for you, if you are after SQ/LSQ, this driver is for you. I can't wait to see what numbers this will put up. I see new SI records to be set. Thanks again SI!!!!
-
The proto will not but I am sure the production drivers will turn some heads. I was impressed with it even though I know it has more in it than the proto will do.

thanks I will check it out. It has been a while since I have been to a comp. I need to head over to one just to see what mine is doing now.
-
extreme 1-2??? got a link to something that explains the different classes. I have not been to a comp in a couple of years. I did however take 2nd in 601+ Pro one time with my first attempt.(LSQ). but I have not had my new car comp ready yet. This lady totaled my old maxima which had a completely custom built trunk with plexi amp rack and three 12w3s. it was kick ass, along with MB Quarts Qs up front and refs in the back.
-
Mags do have some major SPL but they are more of an LSQ driver. As far as burps with that amount of power, I can't comment. However I deliver 1400 daily to mine and shows no sign of fatigue.

Not a problem. The Proto is off to Sarasota Florida for the next person in line. UPS said they will have it there Wed. I had them put it in a new box (box inside of a box) cause the box looked a little weak on the bottom. Nick, I will email you the tracking number so you can pass it on if you'd like.
-
well after a brief heartatttack this morning. I now have the Proto in my possesion. FedEx dropped it at the neighbors house and when I tracked it this morning and it said delivered I about freaked out, well I did, then my neighbor was like I have what you are looking for. They are a real nice family and that is where all my packages go whenever I am gone. Well I have ran a few songs through my current setup to get a last minute comparison. Now for the bad news, my boss told me today I have to head out for meetings this afternoon and won't be back till late friday night. So the demoing will take place saturday and sunday and off to the next person on monday. Sorry about this, it was unexpected. I am snapping some side by side pics now and will post shortly of the two Mags. Man am I droooling as they are sitting on my table next to each other.

yeah, I was thinking 2 15s, but that is not neccasary. Well.... maybe.
-
And to add one more quick thing. Last night as I was leaving work, one of the guys that works for me wanted to check it out as I had been telling him about me getting the chance to demo it. Well we went out and first I showed it off to him and he was impressed with it before he even listened to it. While having the trunk popped I turned it on to let him see some "real excursion" and he immediatly said I have to get in and listen to this. So we did, and his first response was "that's only 1 15?!! holy chit it sounds like two". Then he continued on to say one of the things he really noticed, apart from how damn loud it is, is the SQ and how clean and deep it is. Well I told him to pull his jeep over and get a comparison. And I am telling you now the Mag crushed his 2 MOMO's!!! he left drooling with his jaw dragging the ground asking me how they hell he can get some of these subs.
-
Please what? About it crushing two MOMO's or about the other issue? Kent, there's a little explanation about the issue with the 15 in with the driver. It is not 100% by any means. A bad chrome job leaked into the pole as it did the backplate which is causing some rubbing. The motor wasn't supposed to be sent out but I had it sent to me anyway just to roughly test the 15. The 12, however, is a perfect working driver. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if it is about it crushing the MOMO's then, I promise you.... they were crushed. That is why he wants to know how to get ahold of one of these. I will add that both were in sealed enclosures. as for the rest, Nick just was elaborating on my email about the sound the the motor was causing.
-
thanks for the reply. just wanted to get with you on it first. Full review to come in the morning!!!! Long damn day at work today, mother's day=busiest day of the damn year. I will just say this one quick thing, it crushed 2 15" MOMO's tonight!!! leaving the owner of them with his jaw on the ground and drooling.
-
Nick, I am putting together a review of the 15. but first check your email and get back to me soon.
-
ok, finally go time to throw the proto in and give it a run through. and my first impression of this driver in the same box and amp that houses my mag is WOW! This sucker is very impressive. I really didn't expect that much of a difference from the two drivers, and what I got was a total shocker. This driver is definatly more efficient than the previous Mag. Why I ever considered getting two I will never know. THis sucker will provide you with more than what you want out of a driver. I will get more detailed of a review out in the morning still have a few more runs for it, only have had about 40 min with it so far. Tonight will bring the final demo round and then I will put together a nice review.

now on to the pics.... get some napkins, it made me drool.... Top shot of Mag D2 v. SI Proto... Side shot of the two... SI Mag D2 (2nd Gen I think) voice coil and tinsel leads. This is a big difference in the two drivers. These tinsel leads as seen are woven in with the coil. SI Proto voice coil and tinsel leads... a much thicker vc and tinsel leads as well. and the tinsels are not woven in the coil. This looks like a big improvement and should help with performance quite a bit at first look. Angled side by side shot... and one of my favs... I gotta get me one of these... there ya go. Now once again I appoligize but the actual demoing will not take place till Friday night/Saturday morning and afternoon. Then it will be on the road to the next lucky person. meanwhile I hope everyone enjoys the pics.
