thanks man!! I appreciate it!

Well the goal is to see what load my amp is seeing.. wouldn't clamping it work? I'm trying to recall info from my circuits class but nothing useful is coming to mind for A/C circuits.. how would you go about measuring impedance?
-
Good luck Aside from that, build looks great LOL. I will measure the impedance that the amp is "seeing" at my peak frequency before I yank on the amp. Hopefully its around .7-.9 I've never tried to check impedance. I dont know if I can set the DMM to ohm's and read it, or if I will need to clamp the amp and read the output voltage with the DMM and then use ohm's law to calculate the impedance. I will contact a local guy who is familiar with clamping amplifiers and see what he says. I don't want to run the amp below .5-.7 ohms. We will see........ Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback.

The sub is very musical.. as far as i know being peaky is due to the enclosure and the vehicle.. However, DD recommends 40Hz tuning. I am not sure why, but every DD woofer that i've seen doesn't have progressive spiders unlike most of the subs (if not all) discussed on this forum (Fi, SSA, Sundown). I know DD concentrates on minimizing moving mass. When you think about Newton's second law (F=ma) less mass with same force yields greater acceleration.. More acceleration=increased spl levels.. Anyway, mine sounds clean with the aero ports (10 in^2 port area per cube). Whoever said they don't sound clean probably heard a DD in a poorly designed enclosure. I know I am not an expert, but I understand the basics. If there is a lack of port area, you will hear port noise and the port will serve as a large leak in the box after the woofer reaches a certain excursion. DD also recommends 16 in^2 port area per cube, but port length gets ridiculously long when you do so. That also assumes that you are using a standard slot port. I have considerably less port area than recommended but the flares on the aero ports are supposed to allow for the use of less port area. I might have been better using a 12 and using 16 in^2 per cube. But port area only becomes an issue at high excursion. I think i could get that set up louder if I had more port area As far as "getting low" is concerned.. thats enclosure dependent as well.. however, with my setup (tuned to 36 Hz) it'll play down the 30 Hz without a problem, but it sounds like the car is about to fall apart lol. The hatch sounds like it is opening a bit, so i think i am loosing a great deal of output because of that on the lower notes. Bottom line, DD makes a quality product. But i've never owned other woofers like the BTL or XCON to compare them. My setup right now is more than I need. Its loud and fun, but I'm thinking about picking up two SA-8s and put them on my 2500 lol. The weight is was is really discouraging. The car is noticeably slower, and doesn't handle as well! Hence, the thought of downsizing to the SA-8s.

How much do they weigh?

Is Josh LaFountain near you? You would have some SSA relative then at least, being the brother of own of the owners. I'm not sure. I am stationed in Fort Worth Texas but I am from the Baton Rouge area. I am offically setting a deadline of early March. A few friends and I are planning a road trip to Savanna GA for St. Patty's Day and we will be taking my junk. Stay tuned! Dang, wish I would have seen this earlier. Josh, Drew, and I could have helped!!! -
Quick Video thanks to "Bassahaulic" and his super sweet video quality taken with Galaxy S. Makes me wanna ditch iPhone. SHORT VIDEO, CHECK IT OUT

Now, to get back on track. Now installed: -Stinger 200 amp battery isolator -Stinger Red Volt meter (back battery drops to about 13.5V) Fixed: -Rubber mounted amp -Back seats now latch into their stock locations -"False rear deck" back into its stock location -Trimmed ports 1'' so they are a little further away from the back wall

The ti-c came with a 1'' diameter silencer that was inserted into the exhaust.. It was super quiet with this. It was a lot louder after I took it out. So idk which is louder. But I ran the power wire under the car. I can take pictures whenever I get the chance.

DON'T FORGET TO WATCH THE VIDEOS I POSTED EARLIER. NO ONE MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT THEM SO I'M THINKING YOU GUYS DIDN'T CATCH THEM BECAUSE THEY LOOK LIKE PICTURES. THEY ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF MY LAST POST WITH PICTURES; JUST CLICK ON THEM! THANKS!!

I haven't investigated into that yet. I will soon, but I don't plan on playing this thing loud all the time. I'll go deaf and my car will fall apart lol. Ha yea. It seems like it would be a low end monster, but the hatch gets pushed open on low notes. LOL I wish i could see what numbers it would do with the hatch and sunroof sealed up. Will do then I'll tune the system with imprint and do some SQ testing WOOOT!! lol Honestly, I didn't hear much of a difference between my cat back with stock header and my cat back with crsx header. It just sounds a little meaner!! But I think the cat back is the main reason for noise in the cab.

Alright, I have some rubber mat that I was thinking about putting between the amp and enclosure. What do you think about that? The rubber is about an 1/8 of an inch thick. I see. I'm just concerned about the wire insulation rubbing against the metal under the hood and eventually shorting out my battery/alt.
-
Update: -Power wire is in -extra battery wired up -no big three (yet) (has anyone ever fused the run from the + on the alternator to the + on the battery?) -amp needs to be remounted so my back seats can fold up (I need tips on how to isolate amp from vibration while mounting amplifiers to subwoofer enclosures! THANKS!!) -trim plate finished -need to retune Imprint once i get my back seats to close -146.3 db @ 44Hz outlaw; metered with my SPL Labs meter Picsssssss Videos (iphone video.. quality isn't the best)

Thanks for the advice. I may look into dropping the front of the car to level the car out with the back I actually bought the car with the boot. Until now, I thought it was stock. Lol Ahhhhh, I really want to turbo. However, my car is a daily driver and I need it to be reliable. So I was thinkin supercharger or leave it NA. Maybe slight motor work?
-
Lol, you are right! and thanks! I will have more pics up soon with my battery tray, box, and trim plate in place. I just finished that tonight. Its clean!!!

Yea, well I was gonna do a single 12 with a slot port, but the box was big for that too. Turned out I could run a 15 with aero ports in a box not much bigger, but we'll see how long I keep this for. I might be disappointed with how the car handles and accelerates with the extra weight.. It should pound in a hatch no doubt. I bet two SA-10 would be great for an RSX; light, small box and pound. I had two 12" L7 in mine. With my buddies in the car the acceleration was meh ok at best. I am sure you know this. Your box will probably affect acceleration atleast imo. Is that a big deal to you? Put a clubrsx header and clubrsx intake on it and a k-pro and you will be happy Let us know how things go! I already have injen mega ram intake, crsx header, and greddy ti-c cat back.. I need kpro now...

X2! i like them alot. and i have ALWAYS loved the RSX. needs some CoilOvers. As far as performance upgrades go, I have a ram air intake, crsx header, and greddy Ti-c cat back exhaust. But I am puttin performance on hold with all this weight I am adding

The ports are only 3.25" away from the back wall. But I originally planned on cutting them to tune to like 38 ish (15-16 inches flared length). But a friend of mine advised me to drop them in there (stock length; 18 inches flared) and see how it sounds. So thats why they are only 3.25'' from the back wall. I have no idea how it sounds because I am waiting on power wire. But when I tap on the cone of the woofer, its loud and deep. My girlfriend actually heard boom boom inside of my house from me tapping on the woofer in the garage.. I think I did a good job on this box! We will see!

It seems everyone is liking these terminals, but believe it or not, I got them from home depot!!!!! Look in the electrical section; there are a few different sizes. I've been using these since I got into car audio about 4-5 years ago. My buddy turned me on to them, and I've used them ever since.

I am currently designing a box for a DD9512g which will be on a SAZ 2500D. I wanna tune to 36-37 Hz with about 2.5-2.6 net volume. My question is: What has greater potential increase of SPL. A lower port mach or more port area? Thanks!
