  1. I'm not comparing ssd to ramdisk... I can get extra ram easy cheap. Been reading when using a ramdisk to point all temp dir of all apps to it. Ie- For me that would be Firefox Windows Goldwave Audacity Tmpgenc Audioconverter Mkvtoolnix And any other app that uses temp dir
  2. well, let's look at SSD... I'm assuming you are saying blazing fast just based on specs... While I cannot use a Ramdisk UNTIL i get in Windows, after that, Ramdisk will destroy a SSD. SSD can be used to boot the system up.. Ramdisk cannot.. at least not a software ramdisk. But after that, Ramdisk is tons faster than SSD. i see some people use this for browsing cache... well, i don't have a speed problem with surfing the net. The only thing that takes time is compression, extraction, transcoding, CAD work and Office products bootup as far as i can tell. Transcoding is cpu dependent CAD work is video card dependent Office may be disk speed dependent but a ramdisk is for temporal storage so no installing programs on it "safely".
  3. the benchmark numbers above are in MB/sec, not Mb/sec So my ramdisk can run at over 3,000MB/sec vs 95MB/sec on a 7200rpm drive See the difference? So.. what can i use it on because i see no difference for transcoding and compression\extraction times.
  4. You can use your RAM as a storage device with the use of Dataram software. It basically installs a driver, allocates a pre-determined amount of MB (up to 3,496MB) of RAM to be used for this device. Ramdisk is TONS faster than an SSD which is 2-4x faster than a mechanical drive.... according to benchmarks. Now, since i got the speed.. what can i use it on? if i can find something beneficial for it.. then i will purchase more RAM but if i can't, then what's the point?

    Box volume too big??

when you say killer lows.. that to me would indicate an excessive amount, therefore, larger box. Keeping the box within specs has greater potential to not lose the 40-60hz area in music like what you are experiencing. But many people who want crazy lows only want the lows...mainly because they are decaf fanatics.

already looks like a chatroom rather than a build log..

    Box volume too big??

the designer clearly must have chosen that size based on what you requested! You said yourself you wanted some killer lows... that's the whole reason why this person\company chose such a size.
  9. the AQX3500.1 is not new either... It's been around for quite sometime now.

I royally have f'd up this time.....

Wanna bet? I was drinkin last night.. ended up in the chat.. talkin non sense.. then she came in there sayin- I was like.. uh what? Then she PM'ed me and sent me this pic- I was like - So while drivin on there last night.. i constantly had this in my mind- I get over there.. but didn't have time for that so we just- We went on and on and on like When we were done.. she said- I felt a little queezy.. but ok to drive home.... She leaned over before i left.. and this happened- Then.. we both got sick - A little too sick... I was out of it.. So my dumb ass went in the bathroom.. cleaned up and came back out doin this- She had already cleaned herself off.. we had one more round- Little bit of this- Then she came to her senses and told me she had a boyfriend... Son of a BITCH... And i left.... So.. you may see me on maury with you all...
  11. it does 30sec averaging, yes.. In the near future, we will widen the capability to choose the exact averaging time because some leagues run their averages at different time intervals.
  12. The Group Buy has been extended until Oct 25th. This should get plenty of you who are thinking about it to get in on this...

Rounding box edges help increase SPL?

i hope so! By all means, if you compete and serious, start when you are young! 17, that's young. If you start winning state or world records at your age, be grateful! Congratulations in the near to distant future!
  14. let me welcome a thought i have. 2 amps independent vs strapping. Assuming they put out the same power either way.... Strapping has as interesting feature that many people don't think about. Current. The more current that is requested, the larger the wire needs to be... The more current that a speaker accepts, the closer the thermal threshold is... At some point, it could melt the tinsel leads, coils, etc.. Look at what happens when comparing independent vs strapping- Let's say we have 2 1000w amps. 1000w@1ohm or 2000w strapped at 2ohm. Right off the bat.. Why is the minimum load when strapped change to 2ohm? Because most amps, when strapped, are done in SERIES. What happens when you series batteries? The ONLY thing that happens is a doubling of voltage.. All current characteristics stay the same. So how does this translate to amps? Let me show you- each 1000w independently does 33v, 33a = 999w. So if you had 1 sub, 2 amps, one on each coil, it would accept 66A to achieve 2000w! YIKES! That's not safe! What if we strapped them? Strapping would double voltage, but maintain same current output(theoretically, current will go up slightly, but not much!) IE- 2000w @2ohm = 66v, 33A.. What?!!?!?!? Yes, the same current in, but double the power! This is my take on strapping is better, ONLY AND I MEAN ONLY if it helps reduce innefficiency from thermal threshold and longevity playback(anything but burps)

Rounding box edges help increase SPL?

you NEED a meter. Do not try and look for "common" things that may have helped others increase their score then do it and expect a gain everytime. Vehicles are different.. installs are different.. You need a meter on the spot when you change things and like ///M5 said, unless the goal is for competition SPL, this is a waste of time. If you want to learn and experience the changes how they effect your base score prior to changing anything, again, you need a meter. Driving to another location everytime you change something really isn't something i would suggest. Let me put it to you this way- A man loves his tools.. the more tools a man has, the more he can do... IF i had a tool i never had before, i'd use it, know what i mean? Anyways, if you have a meter, it would better motivate you to experience pressure changes in a LOT faster time frame. I know one guy who never used a meter and he competed for 2 seasons... I shake my head at him for many things he did and assumed the best.... He knows it and doesn't feel bad because he is learning and understands my point of view. Assuming a gain in changing certain things is like assuming the world is perfect.... WE are not perfect... in terms of knowledge. Different people have a grasp on a different amount of knowledge. None of us are absolute experts on SPL... But what i can tell you is there are so many variables at play, making car audio competition a hobby is fun.. You do not know what to expect.. But how do you narrow down the unexpected? Owning a meter! It's nice that you go ahead and research what people have had success with though! Maybe someday, if you are motivated enough, you will be a world record holder...

    Cleaning the garage FTW!

last time i cleaned the garage i found all kinds of extra fuse blocks and fuses... I got tired of disorginization so i built a bench and shelving and now everything is visible.
  17. i'm curious as to what theory or knowledge you are basing this decision off of. I'd like to debate it.
  18. equal visual setting gains are not equally set. When i had 6 amps in my car, i maxed the gain out on all of them and they ALL pulled a different amount of current... ranging from 135-165A +/- 2A.
  19. i only run below 1ohm if i play in "spurts"... Otherwise, my volume is set so low that i would be BARELY breaking a 140, bass-wise, so the amps do not get stressed from blasting it wired that low. That's the difference... Daily can be wired to 0.5ohm but if you expect stability, don't keep it cranked alot.
  20. audiopipe is about the cheapest company you will find that actually attempts to put out rated power @1%THD.

I royally have f'd up this time.....

MMMmmmmmmm haha. gotta love them jello shots. me and my girl went to a party last night and ya we did drink a good amout (of busch light ) and the whole time we were just talking about all this. she says shes not pregnant and to stop worrying but something inside of me tell me i should still be worried.... so she might be pregnant... and shes drinking.... wow... Damn.. i didn't catch that.. good point. I mean the first initial problem which was reason for thread created but doin it again.. NO. I do not have kids but mentioned this story to a friend of mine who has like a 1000 kids, lol... He told me it could take up to 30days before she knows if she is or not. I will go back to a point i made earlier.. YOU ARE TOO YOUNG TO DRINK AND SO IS SHE. OBVIOUSLY TOO YOUNG TO MAKE DECISIONS OF RESPONSIBLE SEX. If you take this as an attack, then you are also too young to accept wisdom. If you take this the way it should be taken, then please stop partying. This "Freak" incident hopefully was a warning. Regardless of what it is, you need to just learn and move on.
  22. Hey there, 10000wrms... U met Tech N9ne? I've seen him in concert before in Detroit.. love his music. But on a side note.. I've dealt with both companies DC and Mechman.. Yes, Mechman delivers products like a product should and if product is not abused, it will work great... But for those of us, like me, who have no choice but abuse alternator.. can only fit 1 but run over 20kw.. DC is the only reliable company to go with... The XP line has safety features for such abuse i tend to use.
  23. Heh, i do agree with that! life begins at 150db.. and i think life ends at 160db, lol..
  24. in all seriousness, if i am understanding you right.. you are wanting to be able to blast this setup consistently without problem? If this is true, nothing anyone can tell you will help the longevity and reliability of a setup that is wired at 0.5ohms. It is unsafe to wire that low for daily driving AND expect it to be just as reliable as wiring to 1ohm regardless of electrical system! People have been able to run at 0.5 ohm daily.. as I have.. but i do not expect these types of setups to be stable at maximum output for longterm durations as what's expected when wired to a load that is considered safe and others do not either.
