can someone sketch me up a plan for a box??
shizzzon replied to SMpaintball78's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
i hope u don't plan on building it like it's drawn then.. You better brace this box well or it will last a good week or two before you blow a seal out. The drawing should be drawn exactly like how it should be built. -
it's cool u got ur own location.. now u just need to get your crowd more hip... PS- when i seen who the OP was, first thing i thought of was Sex Tape part #1, lmao.
-
but i'm not somebody.. I'm me, hehe. This is the goal of this build log.. The ONLY rule- Everytime you post any exterior shots of the car during and after the build log(the first initial videos after completion), the car must be in the handicapped section..
-
Wait a minute? How you are able to do a wall build log if you are handicapped?
-
Shh.. If i were to ever say that.. it would have to be in the chat room.. You know i'm not legally allowed to be talkin to people outside the chat when i'm not sober, lol.

I use a 256bit encryption line i pay for whenever i want to download anything. This is provided by a different service. They do not keep logs of what you use the line for so nobody can subpoena a request to see what you have used it for... The ISP can see in real-time or in the past that i download \ upload information all the time, even through the 256bit encrypted line, but they cannot see what information is moving through it.. hence privacy... I have always heard that Cox is extremely anal about not being on the customer's side when it comes to stuff like that. To put it bluntly, if you were using the service i have and Cox STILL suspended you, that's illegal.. but so is what you did, lol..

Yep.. those look like something someone would buy at 67% off, lol.. You &$%$#&&*%^*%^*!!! Congrats! -
If the power supply is regulated then yes, it will draw more current at lower voltages. Common denominator is wattage output in regulated PS' so if voltage goes down, current must go up and vice versa.

cadance any good
shizzzon replied to shadowm891's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The ZRS-8, 9 and 10 were garbage in terms of Rated power. They are EXTREMELY efficient though.. but did not do rated power.. So they scrapped them after just one year. I see now there current amps appear to be along the lines of what other internet based only companies are selling out there.. What that means is Cadence is Back! Cadence has never skimped out on quality\durability and their new amps are back on track for doin what they say they will. -
An alternator "may" hold 15v forever, for example, if not fully maxed out on output but once a battery is fully charged, that alt can be runnin at 50v and not harm the battery as long as the battery is not in demand of accepting current.. and it wouldn't be accepting current when fully charged either Also, a battery during use in car audio will pull less and less current as the alternator attempts to charge it if it's pretty low. It will never fully top off but generally an alt shoudl be able to charge a low batt back up around 12.7v or so.. Not good enough imo but i'm real anal about getting the best performance out of everything.
-
EXACTLY.. that's why i say an Alternator is NOT a charger because it is impossible for it to fully charge a batt due to how fast it can rev that current up... An AGM charger regulates the current output based on the charge capacity of the battery. The closer to 100%, the lower the current output. I could go into detail how you could charge over 15v easy with some of your alls ultra low current outputs but i'm not.. Don't want to start a whole new confusing topic if the basic method of charging is already in debate, lol.
-
Wait a minute... Nathan works in the battery industry? Damn! I thought his last name was just XS.. I'm confizzled.
-
Trust me guys, 99% of everybody with ho alts in car audio charge around 15v. Nobody has problems because you are looking at it wrong. Specifically= EXTENDED PERIODS of time. An alternator charges so fast compared to a charger that there is no such thing as extended period of time for an alt unless you were driving half way across the country and never turned the stereo down.... EVER, and the current draw was surpassing the alternator's capability all the time.

Why does it seem that everyone is against sealed elcosures these days?
shizzzon replied to JohnHinerman's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Well, when you say sealed can handle more power yes it can mechanically.. but also many powerhouse subs use stiffer spiders to to combat mechanical issues when used in ported boxes so.. tada, problem solved there.. You will see ported designs in use today using 5kw per driver or more.. so when looking back at sealed.. i do not see a low QTS driver waiting to accept that kind of power.. why? because it would be inefficient. I've ran sealed and just do not like it in the past. The low end is lacking. Ported can still offer very smooth rolloff and increased efficiency, just bandpass the x-overs properly and good to go. -
multimeter not measuring sax200.4 outputs
shizzzon replied to noidle22's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
make sure it's set to AC or it will read nothing. -
To add onto this discussion, make sure you are using a Spiral Upcut bit as well, makes things a ton easier- They are around $20 at Lowes\Home Depot and wil cut some wood like butter. Still use 2-3 passes with this bit, Carbide based, it will last a LOOOOOOOOONG time.
-
You are suppose to for couple reasons- 1- if you want to keep your bits lasting longer, you will make 2-3 passes per circle. 2- if using MDF, it helps prevent a fire if resistance keeps forming.
-
So your suggesting that those of us with high output alternators that charge at 14.9-15v need to have our charging voltage lowered? Thanks for response Nathan. No.. The alternator is not sitting there charging batts for hours. The alternator is more of a maintainer than a charger because of it's high current output. An alternator can only maintain a fully charged batt but can never fully charge a batt because in order to do that, an AGM charger needs to back itself off to a low 1-2A output for a while to finish topping off.
-
suppose to? Nobody wants it too.. the reality is anything is possible, you can control this if you really want to.

the larger the ported box, while maintaining the same tuning, the higher the SPL output will be testing the same low end note(s). Make a ported enclosure too large, you can tune in the 40s, for example, and still peak BELOW tuning due to the enormous volume in use. I had to experience this before with a friend's install and it was interesting to see and watch how the enclosure was able to alter the peak the way it did. After talking with others about it, i found out it wasn't so uncommon either as one of my other competitor friends had won finals where his design was tuned in the low 40s yet peaked in the high 30s. You do not not the box to be too large or the low end will peak higher over the 40hz+ range. Likewise, too small and the low end will just be audible vs felt quite well,

shizzzon replied to Brett_the_Vandal's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
have you at least read the manual? DSP stands for Digital Signal Processor or at least that's what i'm familiar with. DSP function in home theater receiver's typically create a new acoustical environment such as Pop, Rock, Hall, Concert, etc... It is also used to emulate surround sound in a receiver without a surround sound source by using Dolby Prologic, for example. So, i would at least read your book and see if what i said fits your headunit. -
looks like i'll be planning a trip to Fontana pretty soon..

trust me, the members of SSA know what i am talking about, for a member as new as you laughing at it.. you fit right in with the rest of our opinions.. Trust me.. do a little lookin around and you'll see what i'm referring to..
