new team SSA build. 2 zcon 18s on 10k. 159.5db
shizzzon replied to stevemead08's topic in Build Logs
Personally, I've never been a "burp god" and i find it pointless for my use to spend all kinds of money to build a burp machine that will fail to play music at a level comparable to the burp level on the meter. 99% of us SPL users on this forum and many others in other places for about the last couple years have moved away from burping only IF WE CAN and tend to display music output. Music > Burp. Now, those of us who do compete and have to burp for a certain class can play music quite well. These vehicles will typically have decent amount of cone area as required to be a great music demo machine. The reason why i do not do only 2 18s is because of the music ability. I run lots of power always and need lots of coils to dissipate that heat. I cannot break down the reason scientifically as to why less cone area is better for burping. I can tell you more cone area is better for averaging as that's easy to understand. More coils = longer play with efficiency loss from heat. We see what works in the lanes for years and go with it. Just like when building a wall, there is the common 6040 or even more common 7030 ratio. This means the ratio between the baffle to port surface area. This ratio though is typically only used when measuring sealed on the dash. Using it for other forms of measuring may not be ideal. -

Well, he did say they enlarged the volume when the 18s were put in. On a side note, for burping, less cone area is greater than more. In this example, it's not properly compared but if we had a wall of 4 18s like in my car, i bet i could do just as loud if not louder with just 2 18s. Interesting though, Steve's friend is able to demo with this vehicle. Unlike many vehicles who get loud on low cone area, this by itself is a task to accomplish. So, i'd say this build will really give SSA large ad support. -
IF you were a student, you'd be in detention researching this, lol. i'm gonna try to cut 5 more baffles today for 2 speakers, assuming they are all cut right, etc. If all goes well, then i may have time to make template for next baffle for other set of 8s and cut them. Hell, i'm not doin anything else today.

With a goat. I was singing a song... And ripping the bong. while rocking a thong? On his boat. With a goat.

For those that didn't know including Stefan... I offered to mail these to people for the same price that the new flash drives were being sold for in person. Also.. when i go to events, i do not go to events in KY, i travel a lot.

I haven't. I have changed the way the music is modded and am able to alter the low frequency range without altering the speed of the music so it's more enjoyable and maintains the original feeling with an added twist! Due to the fact that my collection has "blown up", i have taken down all links to download. If you wish to get all of these, find me at an event sometime.. I has flash drives with these on them. The new additions this weekend- ACDC - Thunderstruck Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me Godsmack - Voodoo Moby - Flower (Gone in 60 Seconds soundtrack) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama Snoop Dogg - Gin & Juice Snoop Dogg - Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay Pink Floyd- High Hopes Capone- I Need Speed Chingy- I Do Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It Too Short - Burn Rubber All above additions are made by ShiZZZoN Pro-Mod for Custom Mod #2 folder.

Chuck wants pics in here.. I will post some more pics in here next week I need to keep progress priority while pics come second. So far- BC5500d 1 and 2 installed! WOOT! Working on front stage #1 next and begin running 200 ft of remote wire and installing ALL OTHER BATTERIES next!

interesting thing is i own 4 of these 8s and a pair of these tweeters.. My goals are have the ability to project loud for demos.. but for daily driving, will be processed to sound reasonable at VERY low amplitude levels. Now, in saying that, the interesting thing is these new PWX drivers ARE stated to be midbass drivers, not midrange... I personally do not feel like testing their potential but if i find time, i may... Don't count on it though.. They do have some hellacious motor on the back of these things though. Not needed unless you are after midbass... I personally do not need midbass but bought these anyways in hopes to force them to my liking at low volume levels.

I'm sure i speak for most of IAK in this opinion of SP4 vs Zcon. We have heard both of them in optimal installs. From my personal experienceopinion, The SP4 has such a soothing yet aggressive nature to it, if i had known such harmony to be capable in spl levels above 150, i would haveor did switch to SP4s in a heartbeat. However, i do not know the limits of the SP4 in competing in SPL though.. Just an assumption, i'm sure their are limits to it where the Zcon surpasses. I have also heard the Zcon in over optimal enclosure(s) and was also impressed as well. Swift on here will probably never go with another sub again other than the SP4 TeamRamRod on here will probably always be a loyal SSA customer with his experience with Zcons and Icons. I'm SPL biased so i go with what appears to get loud on the meter. However, the SP4 has shocked me so much.. i have had debates with myself on choosing if i should lose competitions on purpose just to go with a driver that may limit my potential... Not saying it will, but assuming it would, i don't know if i would care at that point!

yep it was good

^^ If you are serious.. We designed something like that. We are currently marketing a device that monitors and takes action against many things, one being low voltage on the DC side... The ORIGINAL plan was to actually suppress the values if they surpassed set thresholds but due to costs.... it's already hard enough to market something that hasn't existed in this hobby so keeping the cost down is primary let alone trying to make is suppress the values which would raise cost up SO much to account for the 10-20,000w amps out there that there would be no sale whatsoever. Try to educate someone why they would wantneed to spend a minimum of $1000 on a device that hasn't existed... They will find every reason in the world to compensate for what it does and do it themselves.

The battery bank that has 5 of 12 batts inside is complete! All wiring has been ran in and out of this area! I will now begin preparing and installing 2 BC5500ds and 1 of 2 front stage amps in this compartment! RCA Cables are being ordered this weekend for all 6 amps. Also, on behalf of SPL-Lab, I am going to be testing a new bracket system for both SPL-Lab and Termlab meters to prevent these sensors from falling off windshields (unless the windshield literally blows out and loses surface contact)! Over the years, we have personally witnessed meters falling off due to age and warping windshields under pressure. We want the customer to be able to consistently measure pressure in their vehicle even if they can consistently do 180s. We want judges to be able to use meters for YEARS without worrying about this simple failure. We want judges and competitors to be able to do their averaging runs whether it be 30 sec or 5 min straight without the meter falling off. This has been left to the US side to determine the solution and hopefully within 2-4 weeks, we will show it off. It will be a simple design yet extremely strong.... very strong, hehe.

The point of a larger battery is burst reserve. Music played is dynamic and VERY fast. The alternator has a time delay in seeing requests to supply more current. Today's batteries do not. Those quick bass notes will pull from the battery but then be immediately taken over by the alternator... at least as long as the bass note doesn't shift it's amplitude or frequency! The smaller the battery in this environment, the deeper the discharge. The deeper the discharge, the less life this battery will have before it dies. Also, the smaller the battery, the lower your voltage will drop on sudden bass notes too. And to reply above, the reason the battery is not in full control when vehicle is on is simple... WHOEVER has the HIGHEST voltage in the vehicle with the ability to supply a LOAD WILL support the demand of power.

Pics have now been posted in 1st post of this Group buy for the SMART Monitor. The Protection Device for 2012. Protecting both AC and DC Voltage and Current. Also allows user to monitor values in realtime as well.

Do NOT LET the #15 limit your decision on wanting one of these... If I run out of these at the show this weekend, please contact me or one of the IAK members will contact me and i will mail them out. I won't offer this forever so after this weekend, the window will be closing on this offer.
