Well, i guess you could always parallel a PG Psyclone with your sub so if the amp does go bad, you'd still have sound. It would be your active switching Plan B failsafe.

When does the protection light come on? -
amplifier problems...power up but produce no sound
shizzzon replied to tbear55's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
if u did a direct amp swap using same cables and the sundown works, then it's definitely gonna cost you between 60-150 to repair probably. -
Yep, that's how i set it mechanically.. Same reason why the CC-1 is pointless too.. just need a DMM to set x-over points.

Laptop "blue screen" errors
shizzzon replied to ricksi30's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
Ok dude.. no disrespect to you personally but i do not go by typical circumstances and the speculation and assumption a computer should or would do this to alert me of this or that. I know exactly what i am talking about. I am not jumping the gun and suggesting him to reinstall windows as a quick fix. that's the lazy answer. There are only what? hundreds of files used to operate video driver, then you have multiple locations in the registry in both the System and User levels. Just because everything is there doesn't make it right. A virus can alter the ability for a computer to operate normally. You can't tell me that Windows will just stop what it's doing and say.. HEY LOOK, you got a virus and this is where it is and this is what you gotta do.. That doesn't happen. I am patiently waiting for him to confirm that he has taken all steps listed so far so i know we are on the same page. I'm not going to keep throwing suggestions at him because that's not attacking the problem, that's just trying to get rid of this thread. If he were in a hurry, i'd have him reinstall windows from the get-go but that's not the case. And Windows can't cause a cpu to malfunction, lol. Only hardware faults can cause that if the cpu was fine previously. Most to all cpus out there now have C1E engaged and probably other features as well used to throttle them even if the primary cooling system were to fail. At some point, the system would then shut off. When overclocking, if you get a blue screen and are too inexperienced to know what the STOP error code means, then it's assumed it's crashing because of incorrect OC settings. That doesn't mean overheating.. You could be forcing information to fast here, or to slow there creating read\write errors at a ridiculous rate which causes instability. Even overclocking is safe to do so assuming Windows can cause a cpu to malfunction is impossible. And don't tell someone to "Feel" how how their computer is to attempt to deduce the possibility it may be overheating.. That's an easy troubleshooting thing even with no sensors onboard and this is NOT what is happening by far.. -
You don't set your SSF according to a rule of thumb, IE- few hz below tuning, because things like this happen. In all of my competition installs for demoing and daily driving, All SSFs are set mechanically and many of them are set at or way higher than tuning. since your amp is limited, try and talk yourself into going active in the future, hehe. Or just find a reason to get a 2\3way BP crossover with subsonic filter on it. The Harrison Labs one does not allow fine tuning which can easily allow this to happen again.

i crammed so much shit in mine, my vehicle counts as 6 of them already.

Yes, the consistency is unbelievable. I have never seen anything so damn perfect..

Kicker 4 awg amp kit..fail........
shizzzon replied to Mike Hutcheson's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Pioneer has been sold at walmart for decades. . . . . Samsung is sold at walmart, doesn't make their TVs any different. Yea but i bet Walmart will never stock the higher end of their product line either. Just looked, Kicker has 4 different kinds of 4awg kits so they probably sell the cheap shit at walmart. -
I say lets just go crazy.... Let's get Intel in this hobby and we'll use one of their Core-i5s to process protection features.. how does 32-way protection sound? Shit.. we'll just go crazy ballistic over here. Lol.. But seriously, Alton, can you elaborate on filter banks. I'm trying to understand what you are saying so i need to know specifics here so i'm on the same playing field.

Help me make a helpful users manual
shizzzon replied to Quentin Jarrell's topic in Direct Sound Solutions
No matter how obvious.. Well, i'd like to see Ethos in there somewhere, hehe. Seriously, name of company, all contact info, motto\pledge, etc.., TS parameters, suggested box volumes for ALL applications, not general recommendations. Some response graphs (this will help the marketing more since you are giving the customer something no one else does) Coil configuration diagrams Troubleshooting section Explanation of TS parameters Enclosure building tips and suggestions to use Pre-Troubleshooting- teach the customer what to look for before something bad happens. -
Laptop "blue screen" errors
shizzzon replied to ricksi30's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
Ah, this one is not going to be easy.... First thing you need to do- Boot into safe mode, go to www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com (depending on who made your video card or just go to brand of computer you have's site and download NEWEST video driver). You must be in safe mode with networking to do this. Install while in safe mode. Then run computer normally. If it crashes AT ALL for any reason, boot back into control panel and go to uninstall programs and start removing from the newest to oldest Windows updates ONE TEST AT A TIME. Meaning, remove the newest one, then restart then use computer normally. If it crashes again, boot into safe mode and remove the next newest one and restart normally. Once this computer is back to normal, DISABLE WINDOWS UPDATES permanently. I only suggest this last part if you need to start removing windows updates to resolve the crashing. -
I did for a long time but because i have so much, i do not want to be known or become as popular as decaf since i have a company to run. I do this for fun, not for publication.

i has a loud front stage and substage and all three of those versions are awesome, the first is the best for the killer lows and the 2nd one is the best for stationary demoing.

HOLY SHIT! He could gain several dbs by sealing that door completely! That's insane!

i know it's possible but wouldnt the amp be shut off or in protect by that time? At the very least, there would be no sound output, that's a given, but at the same time.. if the amp no longer works.. can't really blame the sub now can we, It would be in protect if it had that circuitry. Then it would cost more and these $4-500 2000 watt amplifiers just have that. And if they did, it would be the cheapest protection possible. There is a reason cheap products are cheap. Of course, there are also a lot of overpriced cheap products too. The industry is skarred with junk. Lmao.. you kill me sometimes.

I don't think that's the problem? I do not think, unless extremely rare, amps simulate dc output. I would assume at this point the amp would go in protect but amps generally do not go into protect unless the input stage is so out of wack it has no choice. I guess i'll just slap a brand name on some order soon and start selling mono amps with lowest stable loads at 8ohms. I'll rate it as follows- 1,800w @32ohms 3,300w @16ohms 6,000w @8ohms 250vAC rails baby! hehe. Local Electrical engineering shop required for installation or warranty void, lol.

The problem is that you're dealing with AC voltage, the rectifier is going to do it's job filtering no matter which direction the current is coming from (whether it's a half wave or full wave rectifier, it won't matter) so you're going to rectify the output from the amp as well. I know where you're going with the thought, but it's not applicable for this. Why not build a filter bank, such as the amps should have for starters. Also, the control of the back EMF in the amp is measured as it's damping. IIRC class D amps don't have near the damping A/B does due to the output coils that are in place to smooth out all the digital noise in the first place. I think its food for thought. I'm just glad you understand my thinking. I like to tangle with things on a different level if possible. DIY is so common in this hobby. If something can be improved, i'm game.

because the market is flooded with creek pollution. Let's go this route- Since i'm as electrically inclined as a plumber, lol, lets see where this goes- The only wire between the amp and col is the Tinsel lead and speaker wire being used. Well, apparently the speaker wire never gets destroyed so we'll focus on the tinsel leads... This is a.. well, gay long shot here but lets see where it goes.. So, we destroy a sub.. we get a recone. What would happen if we cut the lead between the Tinsel Lead and the coil and solder it to a rectifier diode of let's say 70A and lets say around 110-130vac. If we force the current and voltage to stay in the coil at all times.. would that solve the problem? Now, where the diode would be at isn't relevant right now, just the thought. Like i say before and i think you agree too, most to all amps out there may have this problem so instead of building to what is known to manufacture but isn't, build to what's out there and common.
-
Ah HA! Now you are reaching me. I new about the coil part but the first half of it, now i gotcha... So, I'll be the first to say this.. why don't we just go ape shit on tinsel lead? If we are to assume all subwoofer companies are aware of what can happen, why not go overkill on the tinsel leads, even though many here will think it's not overkill if it's going to save the sub from partial failure? Not blaming you at all but if we are assume that most amps out there will be in the hands of the customer, we should make damn sure our speaker products are capable of handling such environments.

I sure wish you could show me something relevant to this discussion somewhere.. When i lookup induction heating, i just get information about coils, not straight shot wiring.

Well, for others sake.. i'm not on NDMStang's level of intelligence.. but i will add an angle to this debate. The BPX line was also engineered the same way that GTI was in terms of how it output power. I have mentioned this video a billion times to people but have never been able to find it.. So you must take my word for it.. or call JBL and see if anyone can back me up on this- To me, wire is wire and it will only fail due to current, too much of it for whatever the timeframe is here. Now, the JBL\Crown amps had this going for them- The BPX2200.1 which was a 2,400w amp was ON VIDEO showing this and talking about what to expect when measuring output- Voltage rail out- ~132vAC Current out- ~17aAC They say no matter what ohm load was wired to it, 1.5-4ohm, it would ALWAYS measure 8ohms output. This is a conclusion to high power at LOW current output. Low current would allow more wattage to pass through without failure. If we bypassed this tech, then we would be left with ALL other amps out there which is what we have right now. I feel if amps in general are non-filtered so much, it would be crazy hysteria out there. Like i said before, i cant say someone is right and someone isnt. It would be nice to see a video done proving such accusations of the assumption that anything presented in this thread is true so people can understand something they may not know.

My entire promod collection is altered bass lines without slowing the music down. For those who compete on the East Coast, I only hand the flash drives out at shows when i receive notice in advance. MY last set of mixes done recently is the Harlem Shake. All 3 popular versions remixed.
