Well, if you do this, i'd highly advise you have the amps setup properly! Tuned by ear will kill your sub. You will need it tuned via o-scope. Now, even then, you have 2 things to watch for- 1 - smell. Since this is a used sub, even AFTER the amps are setup, watch for a smell, a burn smell. If you ever smell this, turn down immediately as this will let you know that your amp combo is too much at that volume level. 2 - mechanical movement. If the sub tends to be moving more, well, that's a given... But, if it tends to be moving way too much than what it's rated for, that's a major problem as well. The best way to test this out is by playing test tones starting the volume off at half and working your way up to the maximum unclipped level it was setup at with the o-scope. IF you can't never get the stereo up to that level without the sub moving too much, then either it's too much power or your box is too large for the power at hand, or your crossover(s) need to be adjusted for a more narrow range.

yea, i was afraid to say Get Smart was "ok" but i guess you're right. I seen that the night it came out and while it is funny, "Some" of the humorous parts are old skool funny and not funny anymore... For instance- him shooting himself in the airplane bathroom over and over and over.... that type of funny has been done so many times, the first time he did it, yea, little funny but after that.... overkill. Some parts of the story were a little off... like at the end when he all of a sudden knew that guys "story", you know that humungous guy tryin to kill em then he became soft and let them go.... yea right. IT wasn't one of Steve Carell's best movies but i think it's still worth one watch, just not an over and over and over again type of movie to see.

Hancock was just released at 7pm tonight 7/1/08 so i and phi went to go see it and it was actually better than i thought. After about 30-40min, the story seemed like it was gonna be one of those typical newer movies to where the story would just drag down to the ground and stay there til it ended with an even worse feeling, but no, Hancock actually surprised me! After i felt that feeling, bout 10-20 min later, the story started to pick back up and stayed that way and may have even gotten better towards the end as well. It had a great ending, especially bout 1 min after the credits started rolling, haha. I DEFINITELY SUGGEST going to see this movie!

sound relativity to speed and pressure
shizzzon replied to streetbeater07's topic in Advanced Discussion
How accurate is WinISD though? I just got it to tell me this design i made up would push 911mph out of a single port that would need to be 1.25" if using 3\4" mdf. That's over MACH 1. you guys say it is impossible so i am asking if it is then why is this software saying it isnt impossible? Box specs- 5 cuft box using 1 single 3" diameter port off of 5,000w of power tuned to 30hz. -

for a cheaper alternative, if they are dvc2s, get an opti2000d can be had brand new for under $400. Tested at ~1,940w @0.5 ohm stable daily. -
Taking audio from a DVD to a CD?
shizzzon replied to Godsmack's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
Well, without wasting your time, pop the dvd into the player and go to scene selection and find out if the company has created chapters that divide each song up... by chapter. If it does, then i can help you perfect the rip method. -

I have that software too. Since you basically have an audio file with multiple songs in it, you must select the area that the song uses, cut and paste into a new document, then save. Or, you could select everything else in that song file, delete it, save that file then undo changes to bring back the rest of the songs. It would have been "Perfect" if you ripped the dvd by chapter so the songs were already chopped for you. -
Well, i know the amps arent touching metal because they are mounted together on the box. The entire car is still gutted and i dont see any tears anywhere. The verdict of why the problem happened again will come later next week.

Natas - B*tches I Like to F*ck - drops all the way down to 4hz so if that song doesn't get you goin then nothing will.

Bad Battery or what?
shizzzon replied to ford302redneck's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Well, let me tell you what i know and go from there. Other than what i'm bout to say, gotta have it tested- Autozone told me that you give them the CA rating on the battery. They hook the batt up to the tester and send that load to the batt for 3-5 seconds. This example was tested on a batt whose float is 12.6v, stock lead acid battery. The batt dropped to 10.3-10.5v but then started rising into the 12s. He stated if the batt doesn't reach 12.4v or higher then it's damaged. The battery reached 12.2v and the test failed the batt. We tested the batt because it wouldnt crank the engine but ALSO, it wouldnt even run his dome light or his door buzzer!, now explain that one with a rest reading of 12.6 before load! It baffled me but that's what happened. Of course he bought a new battery and viola, everything worked fine. -

shizzzon replied to ford302redneck's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
u gotta put a load like a cranking load. make it ur starting battery and to get it to start your ride for about 3-5 seconds then stop if it doesnt start. Recheck voltage at this time. then check it again about a minute later. -
yep, dual 1s can be, or i've seen be- 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9
-
Find me a sub that is rated exactly like it says. You won't get a 2.0 reading off of a dual 2 ohm sub. I've posted this a LOT. Dual 2 ohm, i've seen 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9 There is impedance rise which always plays a factor so it won't burn up an amp but you can't take rise for granted so much as to expect to wire it at unsafe loads and be 100% fine.
-
then whats the point? That'd be the same thing as saying, i have 2 runs of 6 awg wire running into my amp. One of them is fused, the other isn't. Something happened and popped the fuse but the wire caught on fire! Why? because the other one wasnt fused. IF you have multiple runs of wire going from point A to point B, if one is fused, they ALL need to be fused or it's a waste.
-
if you put a fuse in between the alt and the batt, if the fuse pops, the alt will no longer be able to charge.... anything. Even if your alt is a 100A alt and you put a 100A fuse in there, the alt may attempt to output more than that power depending on scenario and could pop it due to just excessive current output. If you are really paranoid about the whole issue, fuse it with something 1.5 to 2x the alt rating. That way if for some very odd reason the alt got grounded out as stated before, it will still blow the fuse.

well, what is subsonic set at? Also, download Audacity, highlight a small range of a song and choose Analyze then Plot Spectrum. Where it says 512, choose 16384 Change linear to log frequency. Now move your cursor slowly from left to right watching the db level at the frequency. Find out what frequencies in whatever song u choose peaks at the most and that's the frequency you need to get louder if you want that song louder. Or it could be that the song doesnt have a high recording level or it's normalized like rap\bass tracks are. The db level will show you all that though. I've got rap songs that go as high as +23Db! that's as high as i've seen it go for me so far.

shizzzon replied to ford302redneck's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
charge it, crank it just one time and if it wont start, stop! Check the voltage. IF it's below 10.0, it's shot to hell and back. If it's at that or higher, wait about 1 minute and recheck. If the voltage hasn't risen above 12.3v within a minute or so, it's damaged as well. -
Taking audio from a DVD to a CD?

Quality is important, but it also depends on what you are using to view it on as well! The televisions i use are viewed at 540P but i encode in FULL 480P. The only time i don't is with trilogies. i encode in HALF 480P. I have done extensive testing and even gave a friend a test dvd with 13 different types of resolutions, sharpening filter selections and other various things used to retain that dvd look without pixelation, interlacing, edging, ghosting or blurriness to occur. I did this with the Matrix because the Matrix is VERY TOUGH! A lot of the movie may be slow but when it's fast motion, it's maximum fast motion so it's a challenge. The entire disc was created to fill up an entire DVD9 which it did. I would use HD-DVD or Blu-Ray but that technology still isn't anywhere near the performance to price of DVD yet. The quality is oh so perfect. Now, if the disc is viewed on a television that is capable of 720P or higher, then yea, i'd say you start to see pixelation for sure due to the size of the resolution the tv can be viewed in. Once Blu-Ray starts to become very affordable, i'll start doing this hobby work on those discs since you can get dual layered discs now that hold 50gb, that's plenty for a 720p video. 1080p as well should hold a good 3-4 movies on there no problem with the right editing. I have the software to create High Def video but it's pointless to use as it's only viewable on the computer. -

def sounds like it. Charge it back up and let it sit for a day or for several hrs if u cant wait and take a reading off of it, then wait several more hrs and take another reading. If it keeps dropping, definitely bad. You can also take it to Autozone. Tell them what the CA rating is on it so they can properly test it. Only takes about 3 minutes. -

oh i see, def build another box then. Double baffle it making it flush with the surface of the box so you can practically drop it in without screws and not fall out, that's how tight mine are.... of course i used screws too, haha. -

haha, where'd u come up with that name from? I just know what i have. I have a LOT more but i do a ton of video editing, specifically with dvds. These programs come in handy for other purposes. I remember having Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. The retarded company spanned the movie across 2 dvds but didn't have any special features so there was no reason to do that... So i just ripped both discs, cut out the fade out from the first disc and all the movie intro crap from the second, deleted all menus from the 2nd and 1st disc since there was absolutely nothing on this disc other than the movie. Took about 7 hrs but the finished product was perfect... the way it should have been for retail. It's sad how the customer has to sometimes fix retail dvds... This isn't the first time i had to do something like that. For fun, i created all 3 matrix movies on 1 disc non stop, continuous story line without interruption and was created to be watched like that so someone who has never seen the matrix wouldnt even know. Plus, you get the added convenience of choosing which matrix movie you want to watch as well if u dont have time to watch almost 7hrs of a story at once, hehe. I think that one was my biggest thing i did recently. My next goal is to do the entire story line of all the Rocky movies non stop on 1 disc but i am still in the testing phase of letting others view quality samples to determine which ones look identical to the original dvd before i try the impossible again. -

i had that happen when i had 1 Audioque HD3 15 ran off of a 1500w amp in this crown vic i used to have. So, i vowed never to use drywall screws as subwoofer screws again, hehe. This box i have now, i make sure that when i made the double baffle that i cut the hole perfect. I had just enough room to get the sub into it's hole but me and a friend couldnt do it because we had to perfectly drop it in and we couldnt grab it from underneath.... so i took the rubber gasket off the sub and ran PArtsExpress's speaker foam tape all the way around the hole then put the sub in. Super tight fit. I then predrilled and ran #10 wood screws in there. The subs are mounted vertically but because the cutout hole is made so perfect, the weight isn't just resting on the screws which helps a lot. It looks like your subs are facing up. Instead of building another box, turn the subs, make new drilling points. Fill the already made drilled points with glue and let it cure. For the new points, do one of the following- Hurricane nuts and screws Inverted bolt with lock washer AND lock nut(if you can find one to fit the bolt, if not, Threadlock the nut onto the bolt. -

do this- get dvd2avi its free. You also must have some sort of dvd cracking software so get a trial version of AnyDVD as well. While AnyDVD is running, have it rip the ENTIRE disc to the hard drive. Now, open DVD2AVI, open the first VOB file of vob files that contain the highest order. So if u see something like - vts_01_0 vts_01_1 vts_02_0 vts_02_1 vts_02_2 vts_02_3 vts_02_4 You would choose the vts_02_1 since it has the highest order of sets of vobs. Also make sure you choose the _1 version first, DVD2AVI will add the rest of it in order for you, you will see. The _0 vob is the menu for that section of the DVD so you don't want that in there. Up top in the program, you will change if wanted the audio downmixing and conversions. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE IT AT 44.1KHZ or else it will violate the rules of being a proper audio disc. Go to save project, it will create a d2v file which u dont need and an audio track. Make sure you tell it to make the audio track into a WAV format. This program will make the entire dvd's audio track into 1 big wav file. If you want the whole audio from the dvd playable, if the audio is longer than 80 min, you will need to cut it in half. Audacity is a free program and can do that for ya. Now listen- If you want each song ut as it's own track, then the chapters on the disc were properly segmented by song. Since that's likely, then you will want SmartRipper. It is hard to find but will do the job. YOU DO NOT NEED ANYDVD IF YOU NEED SMARTRIPPER AND SMARTRIPPER IS FREE. You will configure smartripper to create a new vob file after each chapter and you will want to rip the disc in MOVIE MODE. You will now have a gigantic load of vobs now since you had the prog create a new one via every chapter. From the VOB, you can go on yahoo and search for VOB to WAV or you can do the dvd2avi thing i mentioned above. You can also use TMPGENC DVD Author do extract the audio track out of the VOB, you will need the trial version. The TMPGENC Encoder can also do it as it's trial as well. I have all of these progs i am naming so i am very familiar with doing complicated video and audio editing. -

Torrents are being monitored right now. One of my relatives finally stopped using torrents after i kept warning him about it. You will need a proxy, preferably one out of the country if you are hella paranoid or just one that is far away from your house. You will also need a special firewall used to block the government such as PeerGuardian or BlueTack's Protowall, whichever will suit your needs. Those firewalls can never be 100% effective because if a new building were to pop up right now and start monitoring, they would not have those IP addresses in their database to block so nothing is 100% safe. That's why i highly suggested people to stop using torrents because if you get subpoenaed, you are either going to owe $xx,xxx amount of money without court, or go to court paying $x,xxx or $xx,xxx amount of money to fight it and hope you win. It's not worth the risk.
