Just curious if anyone here has heard the Massive Audio SQX15 subwoofer yet? It is their part of their new line, and looks wicked. If so, would did u think of it?
-
I know the recommended power for a standard Q is 1k watts RMS. If I had two Q's setup for IB purposes, about how much power should each see. I was told once use half the power and I have a Rockford 1000 amp, so would 500w RMS work or is that still to much for IB subs, I have no clue???? Don't wanna destroy the subs before I really get them going.

wow, i never realized so many factors could affect these things. I love it when other noobs ask questions so i can also get a better understanding. I am also in the same boat and guess i will have to just try one of the two things i was lookin at.

I am putting a new system in my girls car and was thinking about using some plexiglass on a sealed system. My question is though, how does this affect the sound? I have seen plenty of systems in magazines using plexiglass but never heard one, does it have an impact on the way it sounds or no.

I hear all kinds of different installs while playing around on here. Funny thing, I don't really see to many people running a sealed setup, almost all ported and IB. Is there any reason for that? I honestly never heard a sealed setup and am curious.....

Great, thanks. It was lingering in my mind for a good while now, it is nice to finally know the answer. Thanks again

I guess I will give the sealed a try. I am almost scared, lol. I guess in my area we have been brainwashed to where ported is the ONLY way to go unless you get some quick box from Best Buy or what-not. I will have to take some measurments to see what will fit, I will either be going with 1 18, 2 15's, or 2 12's....all depending on final measurements and such. I think I measured out 4 cubes of space in order to save her some storage for when we travel, but I am sure the more storage room she has the happier she will be.

I hate to ask this, but I have hit a crossroad. I am looking for some real good output and have around 2k watts of power to play with. I have about 3 to 4 cubic feet of room to play with in the trunk of my car. What would probably work best, 1 15" BL or 2 10" BL's. I thought the 2 10's due to sheer cone area, but any other input would be cool. I am fearful I will not have enough room for a BTL, so that is why that is not in the running.

Reason I ask is cause I am about to install a system in my girls car and she isn't a basshead like i am. Debating sealed or IB. Can one of yall hit me up on the major differences in sound between the two. She likes some bass, but not to where it makes her nose tickle and such like my truck.

I called it Fe also, because in mathematics Fi is pronounced that way. Took Shawn to tell me I was wrong.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this so I will just do it here. I have been working on a huge research paper for school regarding some topics in math. I am sure some of you remember me asking questions earlier. At first I was going to leave everything silent, but have decided against that just in case several professors wonder what sub I used. So, would it be okay if I printed your companies name and the findings in my paper. All the paper covers is designing ported enclosures, how to design them, the math involved, etc. It goes into no detail at all about the actual build of your sub or any other technical issues. Thanks Mathman

At this point, no more help is needed. I am trying to organize everything and put it in order (about 30min of work). Your two "counterparts", Shawn and Nick have helped tremondously. Thanks

I have hit a phase where now I love classical music. All the cds I have sound, unfort, less than par. Does anyone know of any good classical music cds that sound like they are almost recorded with modern day technology? Really lookin for the great classics, like 1812 overture, but have had no luck going to any shops around my area.....they carry hardly any classical. Help would be great. I figured some of you SQ lovin guys have to hit up classical music once in a blue moon.
-
JimJ, thanks, that was exactly what I was pretty much lookin for, but at the time for some reason couldn't find words to expalin that.
-
Not fully the answer i am looking for, but hey, it is a start. And yep, when i typed this I didn't give full thought to just how many genre's of classical there really are. I think I am gonna leave my area and head up to a larger city, maybe one that actually has some decent cd shops or even audio shops in general (ie. sells stuff like pianos, etc.) as I would imagine they would sell some. Thanks for the input.

Right now I am planning on running 3 10" BL or Q's in a ported enclosure at about 3.2cuft or so after displacement and such, ran off a Sundown 3000. I am not entirely sure which to use, BL's or Q's and would like to know the major differences between the two in order to help my decision. Thanks

hmmmm, never used aeroports before. how exactly do they work in the design? I really like the idea of aeroports, not to mention the look of them.
-
ahhhh, one last question. Do you know roughly how to make a ported box with 3 subs. Would I put the port on top of the subs or below....facing the back of the car?
-
cool cool.....do you think it would be better running the RF4000 instead of the Sundown 3000. THat will add just a hair more power, or will that not even be noticable really?
-
It is pretty big trunk, he is just scared if he ever blows a tire if we have to work his butt off to get the spare tire. That and he has a child on the way so he wants to save a little room for that. The subs are gonna be a little congrats gift from me, so i dont wanna screw his new car up, lol.
-
This little Charger RT a friend just picked up. If I need to pull a little more power, I can get a RF4000 for a decent price...would that be better?
-
Right now electrical is lookin good. I will be doing 0awg runs, looks like a kinetik2400 bat, optima yellowtop instead of the norm battery, and the biggest alt i can get from excessive amperage for my vehicle. I am assuming that the loads you listed are from the 1ohm sub? Yeah, I would much rather go the safer route, so I will def go with that setup. Would it be better in the long run to go with a slightly larger amp to give them at least the RMS rating? Lastly, will the BLs still work for my setup or would i def. have to go with q's.
-
I dont have room for 2 12's, wish i did. The min space req is 1.8cu ft i read, whereas the 10's only need .5cuft. So, I figured I would go with 3 10's at about .75cuft each. Electrical wise, everything is good to go, big 3 will be done, new alt, new battery, and at least 1 additional battery, probably kinetik.
-
Is it correct in my assumptions that the BLs would be more SPL oriented. Also, what would be the best amp to push 3 BLs with?
-
Do I need a new alt

not a 300C, those look a little to "gangsta" for me. If the 2400 is not to tall, I am hoping to fit it in the trunk with my other battery. But I am def. getting another battery, learned that lesson from my prev vehicle....am not getting quite the power i should be.
