The 15s are AUDIOBHAN FLAME EXCURSION SERIES and are 650rms singal 4ohm. Trying to cum up with a box to put in the back of a mini van, there site dose not have the rec. air space, so im guessing around 4 (ft3) for the both of them with a tuning of say 35 ish for her day to day driver. This is not for me, a manager at my work place requested me to do this job for her. YAA or NAA

    HiT dEM LoWS!

Well i gotta say that stuff was banging, flexing the trunk lid about 2 in. or so with a MJ-18 and about 500 watts
  9. turtles1118

    Is this true?

"To low of amp wattage will cook the sub" is what ive heard a few times and always thought that it was false. I have normally under powered my subs and never had a problem, not even on installs for other people and never a problem at all. Just want to hear what other people have to say?

    Is this true?

thats what never made cents to me, sum jakcalope at the local circuit city was telling this to a customer while i glancing around at what they had while i was with the wife getting her laptop fixed and i waited till the c.c. jakcalope was finished and told that customer that what he said was B.S. then the c.c. jakcalope came over and started talking smack, till i pulled the wifes car into there install bay and dropped his jaw with 1 MJ18 and a 500 watt max {into 4 ohms} Amp in a 98 2 door Cavalier{she likes the BASS to} and told him that i was going to take his job!!! made my day c.c.

    MJ-18 Issues

Well i got my MJ-18 4ohm last week or so and i had the day off today so i made a box for it, 26 in. wide, 23in. high, 18in. deep, box volume 4.52 (ft3), tuned to 25 hz, 3?4 M.D.F. and no stuffing. Well, when i used an amp that i had pushing a C.V. 15in., just a plain 300 watt 4ohm plate amp and it did dent sound good at all, put the amp back to the 15 and it sounded great. Hooked up the 18 to a amp in my truck and still sounded like crap. What to do What to do? I put a few pics up in the subs area.

    MJ-18 Issues

Possibly major air leaks in the box, tuning isn't what you thought it was, sub wired up wrong?? Why did you go with a 25Hz tune? Just asking as I'm not familiar with what guys are tuning the MJ's to for HT. "Most" DIY HT subs are usually tuned under 20Hz it seems... Well I went with 25 hz. so i could get the best of both worlds H/T, and music. Added some stuffing to it and rounded the port a little more and wa la, sounds great even with a 7 year old cheap ass 300 watt plate amp. but thanks to all for the help and hope to talk soon. turtles1118

Just looking for some help hear, What do pre amps do? What are some things to stay away from? How do you run more than one amp? What are some good brands?

    Pre Amps

I have already decided that when I do get married, I will just spend an enormous amount of money on my wife's ring so that she can never use that line against me... but than again If all goes well I will be a heart surgeon and making some pretty decent amount of money. kinda thought about that before i pooped the ? but at that time i wasent making that much money and it all happened kinda quick but i strongly suggest that you do spend a lot, it will help in the long run, and i hope you make it as a heart surgeon. And thanks to everyone for the help!

    Pre Amps

looks like a good deal but i know that aint the only thing out there for the price but i was hoping to stay around 200$ but 300$ is the max including shipping. 100$ for the MJ-18 400$ on amps 280$ on main speakers 100$ wires and wood and other parts and pieces needed any thing more then another 250$-300$ is tops other wise the wife will be pist that i spent more on my home audio then i did her ring.

    Pre Amps

What's your budget? Around 100$ right now but next friday is pay day and should have another 200$ to add to that. Lookin for something to hookup to amps, one for too main speakers and the other for the MJ-18, Main use would be music and a occasional movie. Not lookin for a 5.1 setup or any thing fancy.

Amp - Plate or rack mount

True, but i thought that the point was to have it loud enough to dround the fan out, just kidding, but you do make a good point. I also want to git rid of the Receiver that i have now for another amp.

Amp - Plate or rack mount

Just got me a M-5 MJ-18 4 ohm, and was looking for a new or used amp to put to it and was wondering what kind, plat or rack mount. I like the rack more for the fact that im not committed to just the sub and can use it on my speakers instead if i wish. Just trying to get some ideas, brands and prices are a plus. Thanks, Aron G. turtles1118
