Everybody knows 4th order bandpasses don't really exist unless you keep your windows up! You put your windows down in your vehicles and bam 6th order lol Your vehicle acts as a chamber too! I don't act like I know anything about enclosures anymore

Solo X 15 (V.2) Sub-woofer build log
nadcicle replied to Purplehaze's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I looked at all your build log on the other forum and have to say that It's impressive what you went through with all the work. -
Weird, I heard 8 of them and it didn't change my mind at all about my Sp4 They did sound great though!
-
I actually meant the 2500 is the same driver period diaphragm and motor and all. The D220ti is only the same diaphragm, but has a different motor because as we all know neo became so expensive. Same frequencies between the two neo drivers too.

Looking good! Not sure how I feel about the tail rudder in the port, but I definitely wouldn't mind seeing how this finishes out.

I figured going with a larger coil diameter was more of a "larger bass-penis" to begin with and other reasons later on. There will never be truth to anything in car audio since anyone can prove someone wrong just with bending physics sometimes.

Huh, I understand what you're saying but the ID horns are essentially D2500ti seleniums to begin with (which parts express doesn't look to have in stock any longer) and the D220ti seems to have similar specs. Please elaborate on why you wouldn't want to piece these together. Sure you need a cheap 8 dollar adapter, but that's change compared to what you're already spending. Hell they even use the exact same diaphragm for that matter.

It's become apparent that coil size is not really a deciding factor as world records are still being held by 3" coils too though.

Fi wanted a premium 4" coil'ed subwoofer and SSA wanted to add a premium 4" coil'ed subwoofer. I swear to god I was typing this lol

Your alternator will charge lower when hot. Plain and simple they lose efficiency when they heat up. Mine does 15.1-15.2 at startup when cold out and drops to 14.4-14.7 when it's warmed up. You might have a higher resistance throughout your vehicle if you can't get up that high since mine isn't externally regulated either. Disconnect back bank and test directly at the alt to see idle voltage. Swap the front battery once to test with a different one. A bad battery acts as a load and will pull the voltage down so it's always best to test with a single battery.

My personal opinion is that both subs sound great daily "if that's what you're looking for" and get loud and low doing it (If the enclosure is built correctly) I myself own an Sp4 and a buddy that lives extremely close to me (Sencheezy) owns an evil. I will not go on about how either of us sound better than the other because the setups are totally different. They both sound great in their designed implementations. He is running a crescendo 5500 to his Evil while I run an AQ2200 to my Sp4. He has a huge enclosure with like 180sq (hopefully he will correct me if im off) in of port while I have a small one with like 70sq in, and finally here's the final thing we share in common is that we are both tuned to right at around 31hz and both remain pretty flat on our curves. The truth is the sub is only a small fraction of how well it will sound in what environment you put it in. Just because it has a TC basket and is 18" only means you start off with similarities. The motors are different to start off with, Sp4 has an optional spider spacing and whatnot as well. Hell throw in the Crossfire XSv2 since it has a TC basket. I guess it's the same too right? No, they're all made for different reasons. You have to wear hair gel and sleeveless shirts to rock the crossfire stuff!

Well Eric says the Selenium D220Ti probably won't fit without modification. I got to thinking to myself at that point.. Isn't anything to do with horns considered modification? lol Why not go horns at this point? It really is an awesome way to get extremely loud without a lot of effort. Sure you still need a good thump in the door, but you don't need a smaller mid or a tweet. Why the hell not? Common do it! Don't be a bitch lmfao!

Just recently just saw the look on Sencheezys face as I go hot swapping RCAs lol

Link to horns? You mention new and I have just not seen any new horns as of lately is why i ask. Almost all used. No links to them. I just call Eric and order em. His new stuff won't be officially available for another 6-8 months. Original iD guy right? one that made the ID mini ultras? Can you PM me how much you get the bodies for. I can get my own drivers TBH. Yea sure. Minis right? Not full size? Zip code? Yah mini's. Really only thing that'll fit under my passenger side 97 Suburban without modification Link to horns? That shouldn't sway your vote, if you knew why there is one active dude from Fi on this forum then you would understand why. Fi is a very, very busy place. Still doesn't change the fact that that SSA has more of a community. I stated both pieces as my opinion. Trust me it'll be hard to sway my opinion on this matter. It's obviously not about the sub since same build house and all. It's that piece of mind knowing you have people standing behind their product and a place to come talk about it. I've seen a bias towards SSA for sure around here. Look at the build logs and you'll see that, but it's common amongst car audio enthusiast's to back their own product more than others. What would you expect anywhere else? I guess that's why you don't see many DC, RF, or any other builds here for that matter.

You definitely want a KIA Sore toe

I will do the exact opposite of the guys running SSA gear. I currently run an Fi Sp4 18" and in my setup it sounds phenomenal, but i'd probably recommend the SSA variant due to the community around here. There's only a single active dude from Fi floating around here where as you see tons of the SSA guys around to tell you what you did wrong.

If you really think about it a second you'll find out that there are a ton of goals. Things that change end goals can range from the following. Vehicle - Hatch, trunk, van, pickup with single cab, pickup extended cab, suv, boat, and many others Power - Alternator, Big 3 done?, size/type of amp, runs of power/ground Subs - Coil size, motor force, Sub size, thiele small parameters Space contstraints within vehicle - Height, width, depth. (helps to determine size and type of wood as well after obtaining power handeling) FFS the list goes on and on. So yah it helps to give a back story at least and give your own opinion sometimes. You might not always like the answer, but it will be helpful towards your final goal more often than not.

It took a month! I had to use my other truck during that entire period. I'm not waiting another month, I don't get how this company gets such good ratings for quality if it takes 3 attempts. I guess I am a lucky one. I went straight to the Elite 370amp and have had 0 issues. I do still keep a stock alternator around from dealing with Tenney now though. I must have exchanged 3 times before going with Mechman. I originally bought one of the Mechmans with external regulator on ebay that was like 320 max and 200 at idle. Received it and it said like 138idle and instantly didn't want it. Emailed him and swapped out and he was willing to meet me at a car show in Nashville (which i missed), but then had it two me 2 days later. I guess the part about meeting his customers and going out of his way is why he has good ratings? Sometimes you do have to whine a little. For what it's worth i did get a cool ass sticker too though

I mounted my horns slightly out the door for demos so when the doors are closed they reflect. A little time alignment and separate eq settings go a long way for me.

Oddly this isn't the first time i've heard this *zing* j/k lol
