alright well i have been readin here for a while but this is my first post.. I'm looking at buying to BTLs.. not sure if they will be 12's of 18's, either way I'm going to need something to power them I would like to get about 4000 watts RMS to them @ 1ohm but not sure what amps are reccomended any suggestions?? i would like to keep the price under 550$ for the amp(s) doesn't matter how many will be needed, and i dont mind buying used thanks in advance

just finished reconing my 18" BTL a few days ago.. been breaking it in at low volume.. after i thought it was broken in, i turned it up slowly and as i started getting to about 1/4-3/8s level of where i would normally play at my sub makes some what of a clicking noise to the sound of the bass, kinda sounds like plastic on plastic nocking/rattling.. any ideas from any one here as to what it could be ? havent pulled the sub out of the box yet to check anything, dont want to if i dont have to..
-
back to hittin hard.. sounds a little different than before with the new style cone, not sure if its that or if my old one was getting a soft spider.. this one is a lot deeper..
-
spider separated from the basket.. must have cranked it too early before the epoxy dries, i have never "broken a sub in" when i get them its beat em right out of the box, but this one, seeing as how it was fresh epoxy and solder, and the first time i rebuilt a sub, figured i should go a little easy on it.. re-epoxied the spider on, not playing it till tomorrow this time lol
-
that was my first thought, checked that and it was all good. its not that i'm being lazy, its an 18" sub the box aint very easily removed by my self, since this is the first sub i've ever reconed i wasnt sure if maybe i just needed to break it in more and it would go away or what the deal was, didnt wanna pull it for nothing..
-
just crusin didnt even make it off my street sub up like half way.. sub cuts out, amps not in protect, no sound whatsoever out of the sub... pull out the DMM.. 2.1 ohms resistance at the wires out the sub (my dual 1 BTL in series) ok.. sub is not blown? set to voltage.. check the outputs on the amp got fluctuation in voltage with music on, unplug the RCAs voltlage stops fluctuating.. so i figure I'm getting signal from the amp, from the headunit, to the sub... where the hell is my problem I'm stumped.. Dual 1 ohm 18" BTL in 6.7 cubes@31hz in series to 2ohms Hifonics XX-Cyclops wired to 2 ohms ~3KW RMS been running it this way for about 2 years maybe longer.. didnt change anything in the way the sub was being used
-
resistance on the other coil was .9 ohms when i tested right at the terminals.. i did solder the tinsel back on but i had like 3.4ohms resistance on that side and .9 on the other so i dont want to fuck the amp up and play it.. new cone is on the way
-
the damage.. ~2 years of about 3500 watts rms .. cant complain .. lol
-
hooked up to the leads outside the box, look at the pic.. lol easier to explain
-
exactly so when its broken off the terminal.. and the leads are hooked up to the terminals there is an open between the voice coil and the terminals..
-
broken lead would = open in circuit .. shouldnt have had an ohm reading.
-
pulled out the subs found one of the tinsels broken.. dont know how to explain having 2.1 ohms of resistance.. oh well recone on the way thanks for the replies..
-
checked the fuses.. all ok... was the first thought then stopped because my interior speakers are still working..
-
damn so dissapointing.. lol some one sell me and old BTL ! haha
-
ok so I have an old style 18" BTL w/ pchamf, hixmax coil, and 3rd mag.. i want to upgrade and have 2 18" BTLs but as you know they do not offer those options any more and Fi will not make me one with those options, already spoke to them.. if I buy a new style BTL with the newer motor and put it in the same box with my current BTL would that be ok? how will it sound if any one has done it ? and will i damage my sub? Thanks to everyone in advance, ****ty situation i really dont wanna have to sell this one and buy 2 new ones..
-
a little bit off the shoulders hearing that, i was thinkin the same thing about shared chambers being a bad idea and the same amp, i guesss my biggest problem is i just wanted to keep my same amp (for cost reasons) and drop it to 1 ohm to run the 2 BTLs at 2000w RMS each and each in about 7cubes at 31hz.. i dont know how the amp will divide up the power evenly between two different motor designs.. or if it will be safe at all.. thing is i want to go louder and spend as little money as possible lol as most people do, the design change is killing me even if it was for the better of the woofer...
-
seems almost impossible to find one with the same options as mine and be an 18... so shitty they had to change it.. gonna cost me so much extra money
-
you could but i'd like them both in one box, and that would be like putting 2 different subs in the same box (which is a no in my book, and many others) to the guy selling one, sorry i would need the same options as well.. i wont be selling this one to buy 2 new ones, i guess if the same one comes up for sale(yea right) i might jump on it really cant afford to buy 2 new subs but i need louder! ha

I have emailed Fi a couple of times and havent gotten a response, I know they are ususally pretty busy up there so I figure I'll see what everyone here knows about this.. I currently have the original style 18" BTL and want another one, my sub has P.Chamfer, hixmax coil, 3rd mag, dual 1, and daily option.. can I get another one to match this one so I can run 2 of the same subs? or are they completely out of production.. I am aware the new BTL is probably better than the one I currently have but, I cant afford to buy 2 new ones .. Thanks for any help.......

damn man that sucks, means spending a ton of extra money cuz the old one will have nooo value.. guess i'll have to wait till i got more money..

Starting the build on the new truck (new to me at least) my 01 GMC Yukon XL Denali I just bought--- last summer i did a 146.8 @ 40hz.. I think a 150 @ 40hz is definitely doable with one more sub and more power.. well hopefully the equipment. subs- either 2 18" Fi BTLs, 2 18" RE SXs, or 4 12" RE SXs Head unit - JVC Exad Double din (forgot the model number its not around me) Sub amp - Hifonics XX-Cyclops Interior amp(s) - right now just one Orion 8004, but i need to find another to buy Front Stage - 1 set RE XXX components 6.5" Rear fill - 2 set of RE RE Components 6.5" Processor - Precision power 1/2 din (art series) EQ unit Power - dual alt set up, 1 factory, 1 Power Bastards 225amp H/O alt 3 Audio force AF-350s out back (equal to 3 HC800 kinetiks) 2 Yellow tops under hood. all DB link and Fleks cable 1/0 awg wiring JL audio RCAs lets not forget. Lots of TIME, MDF, fiberglass, zip ties, electrical tape and wire loom lol on to some pics the mess of wire from my old truck. FLEKS cable comes in tomorrow. amp stand and batteries in the rear most of my 6.5s and crossovers.... cyclops mounted, all wood will be carpeted threres more in my photobucket browse around for other builds and equipment..

thanks guys, just got some power wire in the mail today, just waiting on what subs i want, sunday i should get to doing more work on it ' help me choose... 2 18" BTLs (all options except cooling) (already own one of these) 4 RE SX 12s 4 Soundstream T-5 12s (other...?) all would be off of the same power Hifonics XX-Cyclops @ 1ohm looking for a 150db this summer around 40hz.. my old truck did a 147@ 40 with the single BTL on the Cyclops @ 2 ohms so it seems like a very achievable goal for this truck

nope just the RE ones.. RE XXXs up front stage RE RE comps rear fill ( i have two sets of those, only 1 set pictured)
