That cone looks familiar.... how similar is that sub to my test sub that you built for me? Or is my test sub closer to the nightshade subs?

    Amp Group Pics

I cannot wait to get to play around with one of those SAZ-2000D's. It's gonna be IMO the best implementation of the "non-discrete design" Class D amplifier since the IA 20.1. Don't get me wrong, I like the SAZ-3000D and all the huge amps out there that are discrete design, as they are power monsters, but the stability of the design that is in the SAZ-1500D, which has basically just been scaled up for the SAZ-2000D is something I like much better.... Just as an "amp tech". The discrete designs (the class D amps that use all N Channel mosfet outputs) have that self oscillating thing that makes them work, and honestly I hate messing with them. Touchy amps.... the design in the SAZ-1500D is SO easy to deal with on the bench. Very excited about the SAZ-2000D. I want one, maybe to run at 1000rms @ 2 ohms. I can't fit a sub with 2000rms capability in my truck, period, but I might could swing a 1000rms sub at the expense of my seats moving up a little, and I like the idea of having plenty of amp to run it at 2 ohms so everything sounds great and runs extremely cool.

    SAX-50.4 Pre-Order

I am still determined to buy a new SAX-100.4D, and a SAX-50.4 and take the input board and faceplate from the SAX-100.4D and put it on the new SAX-50.4 for my own personal vehicle... I would have the only 50.4 with the new 100.4 crossovers... I wish I had room for a 100.4 but in a single cab pickup with a sub box and sub amp there is no room for a huge 4 channel amp... I have around 12" in length behind each seat to work with, and the sub amp will be mounted on the back wall behind the seat on one side, sub box from the middle seat to the other side of the pass seat... only room for a little amp like 12" long or so.... My Alpine MRV-F250 will fit there, but I'd rather run all Sundown....

    dB-r Status after Hurricane Ike

Thanks guys. We ARE back up and running today on generator power. If any of you have sent in amps in the last couple days for service let me know. I have emailed Jacob to see if there is anything new coming in for service. Thanks, Chris dB-r Electronics
  7. Didn't sustain any damage to the shop or anything inside the shop. That's the good news, the bad news is that the shop doesn't have power and may be a while before it does. The server is back up (it is not located at the shop) and we do have some battery backup power and a generator at the shop, problem is finding fuel for the generator, things are VERY hectic at any Store that has working gas pumps so we may or may not be able to get things rolling and powered up with the generator. It may be a while (several days or more) before Centerpointe Energy restores the power in the shops area, as we are 45 miles from Houston, and they are mainly focused on getting the power back up around Houston first. We do have a laptop with plenty of battery backup power and internet access via a Verizon modem, and the phone works. Therefore we are open for calls/emails and the Online Store is up and running. Just wanted to let everyone know, so if you need Warranty service on Sundown or Incriminator amps we can take your emails/calls, or if you want to buy a refurbished Sundown amp from our Online Store you may do so and we will get things going for you. More updated info can be found here: http://www.db-r.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1221148445 Thanks, Chris dB-r Electronics

    100.4 issue

Yep. We can get it fixed up right away, as some of the units that were QC'ed had the problem and Jacob put them to the side for me to refurb and I already know what the problem is, and it's a simple repair. And once we fix it, it's fixed, won't come back. All of the 100.4's that had a similar problem to what you have going on we have refurbed and sold and not a single person has complained of any problems at all.

    SAX-50.4

Please say the upcoming (and highly anticipated for me anyway) SAX-50.4 model will have the same awesome crossover capabilities as the new SAX-100.4 Rev D?

    Want some E8s now ?

    Awesome! Thanks!

    SAX-50.4

So the new D input board is still two boards, like in the C model amps? But 1.5" longer to accomodate the extra components on the boards? That does make it signifigantly harder to do the swap, if not impossible without making the 50.4 amp physically larger and that would defeat it's purpose.... Will send you some emails regarding it next week.

    SAX-50.4

I would pay extra for those features on a smaller footprint smaller power amp, not sure about everyone else here. My install space is limited and I am sure alot of people's are. Let me ask you this. Would it be possible to take the panel and the daughterboard from the 100.4D and put it on a 50.4? Then put the panel from the 50.4 on the 100.4 and sell it as a revision C amp rather than D? I would probably be willing to do that after the 50.4's arrive. Surely someone would still want a 100.4C even after the arrival of the 100.4D. Or can you just order some extra panels and daughterboards with the shipment for people who want those features on the 50.4 you can sell them the parts to do it. Or I could pay for ALL of the extra panels and boards with the order and then I will sell them. That way your not investing a lot of money in it, I am. And yet you will still get the benefit of seeing how well or not well it sells and if I am sold out in a very short period of time then you will know that on the next run, you should add the panel to the 50.4 and just add it to the final cost of the amp, because you will now know that people will pay the extra $$ for those features on that amp. Sorry for pestering you about it, it's just that I think IMHO, the SAX-100.4 is a BEAST for highs. Nothing wrong with that, just not for everyones install, it's as big as a SAZ-1500D on the outside. We used to run those little Kenwood KAC-721 (I think that was it, was the really small ones) amps back in the day, either 1 or 2 of them per install for highs/mids and it was more than adequate power and sounded great.

    Want some E8s now ?

Quick Question about the non-refurb E8's that you will be selling soon: Are these the upgraded (no lead-slap possible and better surround) versions like Mike is rebuilding or are these the originals like the one I bought from you on the last production run? I don't know if that guy (Mike a.k.a. woofercooker on ca.com) will have an E8's left in a week or two they will likely all be sold, people are talking about running 8, 16, or even 48 of them... geeezz... I think I would like to try 4 in a ported box in my truck on my SAE-1000D. 2 Cubes ported for 4 of them? Really? That's awesome.

Amp got a little sparky on install.

Jacob didn't test that amp, I did. It's a refurb from here at dB-r. Yes, the spark from the + terminal on the amp to case of the amp is from the capacitors in the amp on the Battery input side of the power supply. They probably still had some charge in them from me testing the amp. A sure sign they are good quality caps if they still had a charge in them enough to make a spark days after power was applied to the amp. Nothing to worry about at all, completely normal. Just be careful touching your screwdriver to the amp chassis when your screwdriver is on the B+ terminal of the amp, especially if the B+ and B- are both hooked up you will get a really good spark then, it might mess up your screwdriver, but not likely to hurt the amp any, might burn a notch in the heatsink where your screwdriver touched though....

    Prototype Big Boy SPL Motor

Hey Jacob, when you are done with this prototype and want to sell it let me know, I could use another really good stiff sub for load testing here. That is if you don't blow it to pieces with 20,000 watts. But even if you do, give me a price on it reconed with a good stiff suspension like my Konaki you built for me and I will see if I can pick it up. Looks like a real beast that I would never blow up doing load tests here at the shop.

need another $425 shipped sale for saz1500d

Yep, thanks for the purchase on the new one, it's already on it's way to you. I will probably make some sort of discount for people that help get the word out on the refurbs, so whenever we get some more in check in with me and we can discuss it!

    E8

I know I wish they would come in... I want some more of them for my own personal playing around in my truck and my wifes truck. At least I have one here! Not for sale though! Gonna build a little ported box for it and put it in the truck to see how just one of them does and then I may do 4 of them on my SAE-1000D.
  18. Sweet. Might have some more SAZ-1500D's to refurbish! Just Kidding. LOL. I wouldn't strap them at .5... too low, need good voltage to them, lots of current, very short burp etc etc... They would probably do it for a while though no warranty, so if you break them, you gotta pay for repairs on them. Chris dB-r Electronics

Is this an official Sundown product?

While I have never dealt with the guy, and I think Keyword spamming is bad, I do have to say that this guy has been selling stuff on ebay for a LONG time and if he has 100% feedback that says he's not scamming people. I know he primarily sells those PPI Plugs, but they also between him and that "JuicyRobot" guy on Ebay have a lot of vintage stuff that they got from buyouts, manufacturers closing down etc and I THINK it would be worth a look, especially if you had vintage PPI or Orion gear and needed parts or even entire new boards for them, they probably have it somewhere. That Orion board inside a fosgate amp chassis i am sure was taken out of context. With 100% feedback in Ebay like that obviously someone wanted that creation. Give the guy a break unless you know for sure he was screwing people over. I know some of my customers have purchased stuff from him and gotten exactly what was described. Just my $0.02 Chris dB-r Electronics

need another $425 shipped sale for saz1500d

Problem is, everyone seems to get paid around the same time. So around the mid-month and end of the month is when they start flying out the door. Best thing to do is get to the computer and order as soon as you get paid. Alot of people on these forums are running our refurbs, but they don't put that in their sigs, just SAZ-1500D or whatever. Would be nice if they would do dB-r SAZ-1500D or SAZ-1500D (dB-r Refurbished). I even thought about offering a discount to forum members who were repeat customers if they would list their amps in their sig that way... Just to help sales out, get the word out. Been good lately, only refurbished amps we have availible are 1 SAE-1000D, I think 3 New Heatsink SAX-100.4's left (that's all!) and 2 SAX-100.2's. Sold out of almost everything. There's always the option of buying new, and we sell New also. Thanks, Chris dB-r Electronics

    I want a SUNDOWN1500

those two look the same to me. Our Sundown Audio Refurbs kick ass, just see what everyone says. Some speak from experience because they actually own one of my (dB-r) refurbs. Thanks guys for all the support. Chris dB-r Electronics

E8 took a bad fall when shipped

I have a friend who works for a metal fab company, and they do A LOT of business with UPS here in Houston. The problem is not the box handlers, it's the damn conveyors. They have these conveyors that are 20 feet plus in the air. Packages ride across them, and FALL OFF! My friend says he has personally seen people get knocked smooth out by a box falling off the conveyor and hitting them. Big boxes are the most likely to fall off. The small boxes ride well. Kinda backwards you would think but true. Many people ship me amps every day as you all know. The ones that come into my shop damaged the most are the ones who put their 1 x 8 x 12 amp in a 30 x 30 x 30 box. LOL The bigger box they use the more likely it is to fall off the conveyor, the more likely their precious amp is to get damaged... This sub probably got smooshed by a forklift fork going down, but could also have fallen off a conveyor.

    E8's installed IB!!

I know how that goes! busy busy busy... people won't stop sending me amps to repair, they are offering ridiculous amounts of money even... it's crazy... I am SO busy... But hey, get some pics posted up and info. I have an E8 at my shop and I am patitiently waiting to get time to build an enclosure for it and try it out, it looks so beefy for an 8 inch sub, and I bet they sound awesome too. I love paper cone woofers. They always seem to have the best sound to me. I have thought about trying them in IB as well.

    Another route for larger amp...

I think I have to agree with this statement. Just be sure enough R&D and testing in real world abuse applications like you do with all your prototype amps before you commit to a large purchase of them. I know you will do the right thing, you always do!
