2000 watts to work with, what to pick

Hmmm, well why not go with 2 12" BLs ported in that case? JMHO though.

    Cone area VS Power

So I am helping a friend install a new system into his car. Right now we are looking at running either a single 12 pushing 2k watts to it or running 2 10's, each with 1k watts. Question.....a very loud SPL oriented daily driver is the goal, would the 2 10's be better do to sheer cone area or would the 12 be better???? I am thinking the 2 10's but I want to double check to be on the safe side before I tell him wrong. ----------------------------------------------- 2 10" BL's or 1 12" BTL
  5. Soooo, some stupid drugged up moron stole a truck on the other side of my neighborhood....while running from the cops he plowed right through my truck and totalled it completely....right after just getting it ready to put a system in a blowthrough. Sooo, now I am pimpin a nice newer 2008 F150 FX2 (bright red)....it is pretty sexy....anyway, I dont think I really want to do a blowthrough anymore. This truck looks more like a performance truck, so I am thinkin of just putting some subs under the back seats (4 dr) to keep the weight down a little. I have never sat in a truck that had subs under the seats......how do they sound and can they get decently loud? again, this kinda thing is new to me so any input would be great. not to sure what will fit at the moment, but some ideas on subs would be great too. i listen to literally everything....opera, rock, rap, metal, EVERYTHING. At the moment I am eyeballin' some of those newer oval Boston subs, but other input would be great.

totalled my truck, getting ready for new setup

budget wise, it is fairly open.....I figure around $400 per component set, already have a RF1000.1 amp and a RF400.4 amp. I always think bigger is better when it comes to some stuff, so I plan on about a 250 amp alt roughly and obviously big 3. A nice new batt under the hood is a given. As for what speakers I plan to use, I am still lookin...not 100% on what I would like to run with. Head unit wise....I am lookin at one of the newer Kenwood double din touchscreen dvd players (the 700 series I beleive it is). I'm pretty sure no one will ever sit in the center of the rear seat....so I am almost tempted to try to do a little center console for the rear that will contain the subs. So a thing in Truckin' some months back where a UFC fighter did one in his truck and it just sits on the ground and goes up into the center portion. Roughly, I am looking around a total of about $6k or so range in the short range budget....room for future adjustments.

totalled my truck, getting ready for new setup

ah hell, i will take some measurements tomorrow before i go to work.....but if i do them under the seat I will probably put in a 3" raiser for the seat to give them a little more room.

totalled my truck, getting ready for new setup

I was more SPL, but to be honest, its not like I would really ever compete, so its not 100% all that important. I am going to do some estimated weight tests to get a rough idea of the weight difference of putting subs under the seat vs a blowthrough, not sure how huge of an impact it would be...i just dont want it to totally drain the performance of the truck. just leaving work, so please excuse my slow response as I am bout to head to the homestead.

    noob in search of help

Yeah, think I will go with the 15's, now if I can just try to come up with a design for the box, never did that before.

    box question

my friend gave me a box that had his 2 15" RF T2's in it. I am pretty sure it is 3.2 cubes after displacement and tuned to 38hz or so. Would it be okay to put some Fi BLs into this box or no? Tryin to save a little money and want good output. Or should I just throw 2 more T2's into that box and use it?

    Need advice on Highs

x2.....some people swear by some speakers, like the RE XXX comp set, I think they sound horrible...its all what your ears like.

    blowthrough question

I was thinkin, would i need to build something like a funnel around the box of my subs leading up to the cuthrough in my truck to make optimal use of output from my subs......or would it be okay to just put the box few inches back from the wall of the truck?
  14. truckaudioman

    box question

internal volume with the T2's is 3.2....the only reason it is tuned that high is because it was tuned to RF T2 specs. I am thinking of just saying screw T2's all together and go with the Fi line, stupid RF rep keeps freaking me out about going to an internet based company though.....lol, probably cause he just wants me to buy his crap.
  15. so i am thinkin of using an excessive amperage alternator and would like to know how many of you use their alts and how good are they.... thanxxx

    Boston SPG555

I am just lookin for anyone who has heard this sub and find out what they think about them? Friend is kinda gettin me lookin at them.
  18. truckaudioman

    stupid question

gotcha, and i am pretty sure 1.5db isn't a huge audible difference, so i might as well save the room and go with the 15" subs.
  19. truckaudioman

    stupid question

Ok, i will probably be running 2 bls off of a sundown 3k. Not sure if i wanna do 2 15's and keep them straight upright firing through my blowthrough or have 2 18's slightly angled firing through it. What i am curious about, is there really an audible difference between the size of these two woofers if they are running the same power. I know the 18's will probably score higher in comps, but i doubt i will ever compete, so no point in getting less than a db more and losing that much more of the bed of my truck.
  20. truckaudioman

    stupid question

ok, i was told so wrong about db increases then. i was told for a 3 db increase from cone area alone you would have to double the amount of cone area....but then again, he also told me RE subs were the best subs made, even the new ones.

    Batteries?

mmmm, d3100 powermaster, that is what i want, i almost think it is worth it just to save all the extra room, lol. i like powermaster.

    Random Question

If that is the case, then this is like the third time this has been a topic in a post, I remember it was one when I first became a member a long time ago.
  23. cool. thanks. no, i haven't gotten quotes from them yet, still trying to figure out who is really good and such. I heard mechman was good, but I am just gettin some ideas. I really wasn't sure what size alt to go with. Yeah, that did seem pretty high in price for an alt, so wanted to check that as well. thanks
  24. Ok, right now my system is still kinda up in the air, but I know I will either be running a sundown 3k or a RF 4k amp and a little amp or two for mids/highs. The vehicle is the 4.3L V8 F150 (2008). I am pretty sure the stock alt puts out 110 amps. I know I need a couple good batteries for under the hood and in the back. BUT, about what size alt should I look for roughly and what brand. I have a local stinger dealer that sells a 220 amp alt for 700, but not to sure how good that is or not. any input would be great.

What would you do with 100k tax free dollars?

pay off all my bills ($2650) then put the rest as a down payment on a house so my loan isnt quite so much. but as for sueing, i am for it if i get hurt and need $$$ to cover medical expenses and time missed at work, that is about it. all the suing going on, there is a reason other that so many places are slowly raising their prices, not just the economy.
