Holy crap dude. That is awesome. How much power per sub?
-
I've thought about trying Animal Pump out, but I've wasted alot of money on stuff that doesn't work. I like sticking with the tried and true. I've been using Stone Dragon mixed with NO-Explode. Stone Dragon is hands down the best supplement I've ever used. How do you think it would work if I replaced the NO-Explode with the Animal Pump?

Avalanches are some very good subs for that particular job.

Impressive dude. What were the specs on that box?

Hows it do with that amp? Does it ever get close to the limits of its suspension?

I got some motivation for you man! I sort packages at FedEx over night... ITS INTENSE! Its to the point of 3-4 packages a second sometimes! Thats reading 3-4 zipcodes, and moving those packages to one of two locations, or letting them ride on by to the secondary sorter! I SWEAT IN 30-40 DEGREE WEATHER WEARING SLEEVLESS SHIRTS! Its the most intense 4 hours of the day. Normally after that, I'll get to sleep 3-6 hours, then go deliver pianos for 6-10 hours on average, sometimes even over 12 hours. Just the other day, we moved a nice big piano up about 30 steps, and it was a piece of cake!!!!!!! I work out too! Sometimes after the piano job, when I get off.. I'll head home, and work the fudge out!!!! You got to be intense man! I don't mess around when it comes to my jobs and my working out! I also spend tons of time working on audio stuff, and being INTENSE about it! The other day, when I was cutting wood in my garage for the godzilla box, I SCREAMED FOR NO REASON, THEN I SLAMMED TWO PIECES OF WOOD TOGETHER SO HARD, THAT THEY FUSED TOGETHER AND FORMED A BOX FOR A PAIR OF 18S!!!!!!!!! GRIP IT AND RIP IT MAN! It feels so good to be intense and to get things done with extreme power. Being so physical makes life easier when something hard comes up!! Guess who helped me load my 21 cubic foot ported box I used to have.... NOBODY! I've got the arm span of a mutated pterodactyl, and the grip strength of a gorilla thats trained in arm wrestling! I'm also going to bed RIGHT NOW! Goood night! EDIT: You can do anything you want health wise... its mind over matter my friends!

Beast subs and can handle tons of power. Pete was above 155 with a pair in a daily driver.

I want to be able to curl 200 pounds. I don't cheat when I curl. I use something called a bicep bomber which locks the elbows, so you can't swing your arms to help. I keep a straight back also. I got up to 185 late in the summer, but since then have had various injuries all related to work. I finally increased my max bench press also, I'm up to 330. Other than that, I'm just working at building insane amounts of PRACTICAL strength. Hence, I move pianos at one job. Need to improve my stamina alot. Sorting packages at my other job can wear me out. Roughly 2500-3500 an hour can get me winded. I can handle it physically, but I run out of breathe doing that. Being 6'7" is a major setback for alot of things... but thats why I want to improve everything. INTENSE IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE!!!!!

Unhook them and check each coil individually with your dmm. Make sure they read the correct impedance. What Bromo said.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. The second tower is going to look alot better considering I'm starting with fresh MDF and not 1 or 2 year old lower grade MDF thats been in a damp basement for too long. topgun, thats the best explanation of how to finish the box that I've gotten so far and I didn't even ask. Thanks man, but what grit should I use? I have from 36 grit all the way up to 2500. Also, for the primer and color, is stuff in a spray can ok to use or should I look into another method? By the way, I'm starting the second tower hopefully later today after job #2... although I won't be able to get the Dayton speakers for another week or a few probably. Still haven't gotten time to take a good response graph but thats on my list of things to do also. Good night... for 3 hours.

Here is a recent project I just finished. From what I've heard so far, the only thing I know of that sounds better is a Magnepan system which probably cost about 10 times as much as this did. We'll see once I can give it a major listen. I'm still a novice builder and I'm not really all that concerned with the finish at this point. Its just spray on lacquer that I got at Walmart. Its made of MDF. The internals were dead on what they were supposed to be. Its a pair of Dayton DC160-8 ohm 6.5" speakers and a Hi-Vi Tn28 tweeter being powered by a single channel on a Dayton APA 150. The second tower is yet to be started. The top of the box is warped somehow, although the internal port remains the exact height it is supposed to be. I have no clue why.... on to the pics. Also, I'll get response graphs up once I get to it. Test fit. Tweeter hole sucks, thats a jigsaw and monstrous hands for you. The base. Did some filling on the tweeter hole, then reaming to get it nice and round. Ended up being about a perfect tight fit for the tweeter.

Box number 2 almost done. Did some math and came out with 291 pounds for the final product, WITHOUT the woofers in. The entire system, batts, amps, amp rack, subs/box will weigh just under 600 pounds. I'm upgrading my suspension first.

Last call for your opinions on the wood I should use... otherwise, starting the second tower with a fresh sheet of MDF.

Your mom certainly didn't put it together... she was probably too busy doing your laundry and cleaning your room. Patience guys.

This system isn't aimed at being loud on the meter at all. With around 4.5k watts on tap for the pair, I'm sure it would get quite loud on the meter anyways. This is all about low end at my listening area.

Very well put. I think this dude has enough variable information to start figuring out a routine/diet that will work for him.

Creatine kills people. Wow man, you really know your stuff huh? I got some cramps once I started creatine, but drinking more water fixed that pretty quick. Protein is crap too? Tell us more Mr. Health God. Guessing by the way you typed all of that nonsense, you didn't even finish high school. Why would anyone want to get trained by someone who cannot even talk correctly? Creatine will help, but only to a certain extent. I stopped supplementing it after my strength increases and weight increase weren't really increasing much more. Once I started using creatine, I started getting very good results quickly. All of my exercises increased in weight, and I gained a very noticeable amount of muscle. I improved at work also. Chevy has pretty much owned the topic though. Acex3a, its people like you that make forums a pretty frustrating place sometimes. Grow up and stop trying to be a know it all when obviously you don't really know much of what is being talked about. I don't know much, but I'm not trying to say I know a ton of stuff. I know whats helped me, and worked well for me, so I'm just sharing this info. No need to be so negative.

More headroom is better than less. Besides, unless you run test tones constantly, I don't think the sub would be getting close to 1500 rms very often. Get the bigger, set your gain correctly, and you'll be fine, plus... you'll have a bit of room for a beefier sub if you upgrade sometime.

Will do guys, videos, more pics and response graphs soon to come. What is SBN and where is it? Lawl. SBN = Spring Break Nationals held in Florida Ah. I'm in Illinois. I most likely couldn't get enough time off work to go. 2 jobs FTL. I do plan on attending some comps around Illinois though. I don't really think this system is going to hit high on the meter, but its going to sound very nice at loud volume levels, and thats what its all about right now for me.

Stuff comes thicker than 3/4"????? I don't like the fact that you used particle board, but I will give you props, the cuts look nice. You can get 1" MDF. The box was made from scrap wood from previous car audio projects. Would you have a suggestion as to what wood I should use for future HT projects? Like I've said, the look isn't all that of a concern right now, I'm more concerned with structural integrity, but nothing insanely expensive... just something that will do what it needs to. Also, some of the scraps were different types of particle boards. Some higher density, some alot lower. The stuff I have not is alot better, but I'll still look into actual wood.

As stated by someone else, I didn't design it. I am, however, absolutely sick and tired of traditional ported boxes and their lame frequency response. People always say something like "just put it in blah cubes, and tune it to blah hz for a nice smooth response".... well, that IS NOT the case most of the time. Although ported boxes do get quite loud, and sound "ok" sometimes... they do not at all turn out like people say they will just because they plotted them in some crappy box graphing program that only plots the graphs in an infinite environment, and not in a small cabin like a CAR, and can't possibly factor in all the different wavelength phases, and different shapes/obstacles in the way. Also, people are just too ignorant to the fact that there are other types of enclosures out there other than ported and sealed, and those other types of enclosures DO WORK if designed correctly. I love transmission line enclosures. All of my HT speakers are PMC, who are famous for their TL enclosure designs. I'm still in the "decision making" process regarding building enclusures for my Avalanche 15's, (for HT)and had pretty much settled on sealed or simple ported. if theres anywhere to get info on a TL design for Ascendant subwoofers tho, maybe I'll think again! Sweet. You should definitely do something awesome for those subs. There are tons of websites that have good info. Just remember, your room is a major factor. Using the right woofer/port loading, port mass to room mass ratio, the woofer location in relation to the main listening location. I have an Avalanche 12 I plan on using for HT duty once I get a bit more money. I recently sold my Avalanche 18s, those would have been pretty awesome, but I don't have the space for an enclosure for even one of them.
