I have a dc level 4 (with atomic magnet) on an apk 2500.1 amp. When I play songs with high bass notes like Versace-Drake the amp cuts out and protects itself and stays in protect until I restart my car. I was wondering your guys Input on this problem as of right now I'm at a loss for ideas. I've tested all my wires and they all have power I have a extra battery on top of a 20 farad capacitor so power should not be a problem at all

Okay I figured it out I'm pretty positive.... My issue was that my negative and positive leads were touching causing it to spark and go into protect mode.. Partly because the leads on this sub are wired directly into the speaker wire and not into a terminal
-
I'm unsure what its rated at I am thinking it's rated at 90 or so. And I switched from 14 gauge speaker wire to 8 gauge speaker wire. That's when this problem started happening. But what I'm confused about is why it only happens on the high notes and not the lows
-
Yes stock alternator but have never had problems before until I switched the sub back to it's 8 gauge wiring it had. And what will ditching the cap do?

Upon further inspection i took the one sub out and the terminal for the negative was coming disconnected from the spider so when itd bounce it would short the amp out to protect them. also sony HU, Audiopipe 1500.1 and the gain on the amp isnt even at a quarter. thanks for your help now i just gotta get that terminal reattached

Recently this weekend me and my friend traded cars becasue mine gets better mileage. he has my old subs in them and this weekend the amp started going into protect mode. this happens on any note lows or highs. my friend says its happened to him before on only one song. but the amp does not get hot it is not clipping or distorted as im running them at maybe 800 to 1000 watts. when i go back to listen to them one sub sounds like it pops then the amp goes into protect. what could that sound be? the song i was playing this weekend was rack city a lot because of its good bass (in my opinion). could i have possibly have torn the spider or the tinsel leads? when i push on sub it moves freely, no sound at all such as scratching rubbing. or could it be possible that his cars electric system isnt keeping up because of how old it is? (although i figure this would have happened a long time ago if it couldnt hold voltage). Also hes had them for about 3 months in his 95 GMC Jimmy

on my sundown sa 8 v.2 the dust cap gets really hot? is this caused by the voice coil being hot also why does it tend to clip (bottom out) when its straight up more then it does down or at a 45 degree angle? i have this in a .28 cubic foot sealed box in a apk 2500 watt amp and i cant figure out how to get it to sound crisp and clean
-
i guess my real question is why does it seem that i cant get it to sound good unless i have the gain at 3/4

thx guys!!!

im looking to build a custom box for an impala. i havent built one before so i was wondering how do i tune the box and what dimensions should i use for two 15 inch sundown nightshades? also what tools do i need to build the box and what tools are required for clamping your amp?
-
Thanks now i need to figure out how to tune it to about 32 to 36 hz and what dimensions for the box so it will fit. also what kinda wood because i have heard different woods produce different sounds
-
Also i have a vehicle now im getting the impala soon Your talking alot of equipment to do what you want to. i know that but id like to get it all. im just needing to know what equipment to get because im done messing with prefab boxes

Not really wasting their time because i can get a headstart and start building the box now and i can start gathering the tools to clamp everything.

Yes the ss will be a little to much so i am going to be getting a 2001 to 2003 impala ls which is almost same but different engine. is there any sites that show how to tune a box along with building it and explains everything i need.
