    Do vehicles have specific hz?

No, if you tune the box at the same frequency your car resonates at, you'll get a large increase at that narrow frequency band. For SQ you want a really flat frequency response, not big spikes.

What would you like to see?

I'd like to see the enclosure port through the rear deck. Will eventually upgrade and wondering what to do with my coupe, never had a trunk car before and disappointed with sub output compared to a hatchback. Be sure to post pics.

    Carpeting a box

Only if you cover the speaker!
  4. I don't know what VVX is, but if you think GCON's are better than sex, you're doing it wrong... unless you're in prison.

Bandpass box? whats your opinion on them.

Get the JL's but make/purchase a custom ported or sealed box.

    Considering purchasing 2 Fi 12"

You could have introduced yourself first and told us what your audio goals were and what budget you have to work with, but if you have your heart set on Fi... They offer awesome subs, I have yet to read any substantial negative criticism yet, BUT they are custom made to order. If you are impatient in anyway you need to look at a different manufacturer. You don't want the IB line, that is for infinite baffle applications which would be very difficult for your application.

Do you still have 11 or 12 speakers running of your head unit? That's still bad, like your use of punctuation and capitalization.

    Sub power handling questions...

Thermal power handling is related to the heat generated by the power it is receiving, the other type of power handling is called "mechanical" which suspension parts like the surround and spiders, along with the a bumped back plate- if you look at a ZCON you'll see an insane amount of motor structure behind the magnet- this is to prevent the pole the voice coil is wrapped around from hitting the back of the motor. Ported boxes offer less mechanical resistance so they are more efficient, meaning it will be louder given the same amount of power. I really like www.bcae1.com, it in no way delves into the depth that M5, Impious or Quentin Jarrell (or many others, sorry to leave you out) can, but it's a great start.

Opinions on having a box built

I don't know, some of those ports look awfully thin and way too long. If you've already built a box and it was decent, one would only assume you could improve on your second attempt. If you enjoyed building the last one, I'd say build another one. You know you can get tons of help with design specs on this site.

old in the game, but new in this forum

Welcome to SSA, there are quite a few of us who've been involved in the car audio world for 20 years. I never should have gotten rid of my Punch 45...

    Sundown SA-12 and Skar VVX-12

If they are using prefab boxes and kicker comps it should be a whole lot easier for you to sound better and maybe louder, but 2 15"s is still a lot of cone area.

Sundown 2012 Frames : Cone Samples

I'd love to get one of the 10"s add an inverted dust cap and use it as a cereal bowl. Those things look seriously cool.
  13. The big 3 is the cheapest, I'd do that first, than upgrade the battery. The burning smell on the sub is most likely the glue that holds the copper wire to the pole connected to the cone- the voice coil, that's a bad smell, turn it down whenever you smell that smell, if the glue gets too hot it will loosen the coil and your sub will fail.

    What am I doing wrong?

When you turn up bass boost or the EQ from your head unit you are asking the amplifier to double, triple, or quadruple or more the power for a very narrow set of frequencies (typically 45 htz or so for bass boost). Unless you have tons of headroom from your amp, and most people don't, it sends a very clipped signal which can cause your subs (or other speakers) to fail. Don't boost, cut.

LOL!! I teach at a high school, they have no idea how sh!tty it sounds, but it is loud!

Welcome, with those subs and amp, you'll need to do a lot of sound deadening. Don of SDS is a member here, and there have been lots of threads for you to read up on. Good luck.

You're new so here's a good starting point for you: component speakers for your front stage sub in the back 1 four channel amp: front channels pushing the components, rear channel bridged pushing the sub. This isn't the "best" system, but it's a good balance for people new to the hobby.

    Choosing Mid Bass Speakers

Experienced help you will get, BUT you need to give us way more information first. What processing do you have? Amps, tweeters, etc. What are your goals? How low is low? You might want to check some previous posts, there have been quite a few about mid bass drivers over the last couple of weeks.

    Subwoofer decisions for my truck

The enclosure is going to make a HUGE difference. How much space do you have? Are you thinking ported or sealed? What equipment do you already have? We are going to need more information to offer you good advice.

    Subwoofer Decision

You want your front stage in the front. If you went to a concert, you wouldn't have the music coming from behind you. You will see a great improvement over what you have by buying a component set- 6 1/2" mid/woofer in the door and the matching tweeter "next to it", you'll really need to check out a bunch of threads on this forum and read up a little of what I'm talking about. Don't buy anything yet! Read up a bit- there are dozens of threads on here about which component set could be a good match for you. Remember, there is no "best", there are lots and lots of options, take your time and do it right the first time.

Yeah, that's bad. You should go to www.bcae1.com and do some research. You really need to start over.

Sorry guy, but your system sounds like a total mess. I think it's time to pull everything and start over from scratch. Not trying to be a jerk.
