  1. Well thank you for the reply. I have used a program like that before. The only problem I came up with is the fact that you can angle the same side as the port opening, but not the opposite side. On my design, the back is going to be angled, and the front where the port opening is will be straight up and down.
  2. I know some of you would prefer to put a JL w6v2 in a sealed box... (I'd like to go that rout if I had two subs and a powerful enough amp to push them both), but since I just have a single sub and amp I want to build a ported box. I want to make the box wedge shape so I can get the most out of my trunk. I did design a box using a 4in round port, specs: Sub is a single 12" JL audio w6v2 3/4" mdf box external lengths: height= 14.75in width= 26.0in bottom depth= 13.5in Top depth= 8.25 in 4in port, tuned to 32hz Net volume, 1.5 cu. ft. Final internal volume after adding in sub and port displacement ~1.76 cuft. I've been hearing from alot of people that I should make a slot port instead. I would have done this straight from the get go, but I've been having trouble figuring out a slotport to work with my wedge design. If any of you can help me figure out out that would be great! Then I can go back and alter to design to accomodate the port. Thanks much.

Building an enclosure for my JL w6v2...

Haha I would normaly do something like that, but money is tight at the moment sooo I guess gota work with what I have to make a choice then spend the money and build one good box. See I do have a ported box (actually borrowing it from my friend) It is another prefab- subzone to be exact. It can be a little boomy at times, but I realy enjoy the ouput when listening to rap/hiphop and electronica music. I would like to kind of compare that to the sealed box I have. I know it may not be the best way to do things... but if figure if I like one over the other then I can put the effort and money to building a nice box.

Building an enclosure for my JL w6v2...

Hmm.. alright. Well I have a crappy dual prefab sealed box that I might used to test out if I would like my sub sealed. Its probably around 1.5cuft airspace.. soo If I sealed up the second whole I will get an idea. I've always liked ported... so just not sure If I'd like it sealed ya kno.

Building an enclosure for my JL w6v2...

Power is about 400 right now, but im going to get a 5-600 watt amp soon. What airspace is best sealed?
  6. I have two 12" JL w6v2 subs. I dont have an amp powerfull enough to power them anymore, so I'm going to run with a single sub for a while. I'm want to build a new enclosure for it... it will either be a sono tube or a fiberglass enclosure. I'm just wondering what some of you JL owners are running a single w6v2 in?? I know JL has some specs on their site for "suggested" enclosures. I've made their slot port before... but I sold it when I upgraded to two subs... and to be honest, I dont think its the best it could have been. I would like to go ported, will most likely used a round port. What are specs you guys using for your jl?? Any and all help is needed. I certainly dont want to by a prefab ha. Thanks!
  7. Yeah, I just want to do the best with what I have. I'm a college student and couldnt afford to change. Even if I did though, I duno if I would change, I love my JL's and got them at a great price.
  8. Well I'm trying to plan a fiberglass build for my twin 12" jl w6v2's that will be going in my WRX (sedan). I've asked around to get suggestions on how to go about the design, but noone seems to be able to help me with my question?? I know with a regular box your kind of limited to either just facing your subs straight back or straight foward... straight back, pushed up against the backseat usualy being "as good as your going to get" as far as cabain gain goes. What I've been trying to find out is, since sub orientation is just about limitless with fiberglass, what orientation will yield me the best possible cabin gain and sound in my trunk? Like facing the subs toward the rear, angled towards each other? Angled away from each other? Mounted parallel on each side of my trunk, facing each other? Facing away from each other? Or anything else? Any and all suggestions would be great! Not only do I want the enclosure to look good, but I definately want it to sound good too! Thanks.

The best pair of 10's for $250?

Would $300 be a little more realistic? I probably could do that... I would have to cut into my enclosure budget... nothing I couldnt replace though over a little time saving...

The best pair of 10's for $250?

Humm... well to be honest I would like some more suggestions. Those subs look very nice, but I would like to try and get as many suggestions as I can so I can narrow it down. Anyone have more suggestions? If it helps to broaden suggestions, maybe I can say mention a different amp if it wont work with what the ones I gave to choose from?? Humm...

The best pair of 10's for $250?

How do those sound? What can you compare them to?
  12. Well, I finished my sono tube, now its on to another more challenging fiberglass build. This time around I'm going with two 10's and I am giving my self a budget of $250 for subs, and $250-300 for an amp. I'm looking for a pair of subs that will give me great spl, with some sq as well. I listen to a variety of music from rap, hiphop, to rock, country, and even jazz etc. They will be ported, and I'm thinking roughly around 1cft each sub (not decided yet). I would like them to be pretty efficient too. I'm not interested in the walmart variety... nor competition worthy subs. Just plenty to satisfy me on a daliy basis, yet when I would like to impress a friend or two, make them smile with a GREAT backrub. Soo pretty much any suggestion of subs that you have heard and would recomend based on my preferences, would be great! And just to show what I'm thinking of doing, heres a sketch of my next project:
  13. Just kinda throwing this out there...but for christmas my family is doing a secrete santa deal... with the rules being for the person you pick, you buy them one or multiple gifts that add up to one hundred dollars. I got my older brother this year... and one of the things on his list was a home stereo amplifer for surround sound. Car audio is more my thing, but home stereo stuff... I have nooo clue. Is there anything somewhat decent that I could get him for like $100 or less? If not, he has plenty of other things on his list. Thanks to all who can help me, and an early merry christmas to all!!
  14. Those look hott haha. I wish I could buy them, but with christmas and all coming up, I probably wouldnt be able to afford them. I will definately keep them in mind tho.
  15. I'm using a RF 1000BD I believe. Its not mine though, so is one of the main reasons I need my own amp. My buddy says the birth sheet rates it at like 750watts or so..
