Three-Way system in the future
JazzScreamer replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
This is what I have to work with. I don't think I can fit an 8" woofer in the stock location. A 7" would be much more realistic. The mid would go just to the right of the door handle (no bigger than a 4" mid) and the tweet on the black section by the side view mirror. At least that's my thought process as of know. As far as the sound I'm looking for...Total SQ with natural dynamic sound (nothing too harsh sounding). I'm not a fan of the titanium tweets as they sound to harsh for my likeing. I listen to mostly acoustic type stuff with the occasional alternative rock, so great midbass is critical. I don't want to spend more than $500-600 on the front stage. As always, I'm open to suggestion as far as setup and speakers. As far a powering this front stage, I will most likely be doing some kind of Zed Audio setup. Thanks!!! -
Three-Way system in the future
JazzScreamer replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I might be able to. The three way set up was gonna involve a mod to the door panel anyway. I would love to run an 8" up front. What do you have in mind M5///? I think I will post some pics of the doors soon to see what people may suggest. This will give a visual perspective that can give a better view of where I'm coming from. I'm also willing to run everything active. -
OK. That's good to hear. When I talked to him several months ago, he told me that everything should be viewable. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Thanks Denim.

Regardless, the review was great. Good for Zed Audio. I love how the article mentioned the Manual as a must read. Steve is not afraid to let it out there and he is definately one of the few that can back it up.

Are the USX series of amp built by ZED? If so, Any thoughts on them. I've seen some around and thought I might buy one some time for the heck of it.

I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone's FIRST system was or what you installed back in the day. For some of you that may not be that long ago. Here is one of mine. I didn't have money for my own system at the time but I remember this...... Concord cassette unit (that was the Cadillac of cassette units in the mid 80's) a pair of Pyramid 15's with a port (really just a hole in the box) 6x9 pyramids no upgrades in the front speakers 10 band graphic EQ (can you say... extra 40 watts) and I think it was a Blaupunkt amp running the subs This was in a 86 Cavalier. YEAH!!!! Lots of bass and bad sound up front. I got more but I'll wait

When is a bigger Alt needed
JazzScreamer posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Like the topic says. I just installed an electric fan to my truck and have noticed a slight voltage drop when the fans kick in. With the system I have in the truck, I'm wondering If this might be something I need to do. I need some help on this cause I'm pretty clueless with this. Here's what I got in the truck 2 Miniliths 1 Old school RF punch amp (running the rear spakers) 1 Draconia -
So this is the sub box that comes with the Ford Edge (with the audio upgrade. It made of ABS plastic. I'm not sure what the internal volume is, but I think it's about .4 -.6. The sub is an 8" something or other and the tiny amp puts out 180watt MAX. Anyway this thing needs some help. Hench the questions about different boxes and materials. I'm trying to help a friend out with this project and simply do a sub/box upgrade. She has a line output converter (now I need to figure out which wires plug into it) and that's it so far. I'm gonna mock up an 8" AA assasin (sealed) and a 10" Alpine Type S (sealed) in the SUV. As far as amps go, I think I'm gonna put my Minilith in there for now just to give her an idea about the amount bassshe would potentially want. Here are the options I have for making the box. 1.Use the existing box for the Assasin and mount another 1/2" MDF baffle for depth and reinforcment. I'm thinking I could also put a few layers of sound deadening sheets to help deaden the box (I think it may resonate too much. This is a much more ghetto approach to the install. 2. Make a custom enclusure for the AA/or Alpine. Problem here is that the room I have to work with sucks. Mucho curves with the wheel well and everywhere else. This would take much longer and involve some glassing too. I'm not sure if I or she wants to get that much into it though. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

I have a friend that wants a box built for a 8" sub. I have some 1/2" MDF that I could make it out of. The box will be sealed and not have a lot of flat surface (maybe even some glassing involved to make it fit). Would this be a good idea? I'm not sure about the thickness of the MDF. The sub will only be seeing about 200rms or so.

Great pics. I have the same amps running my system and love it to death. I reallly like the parametric EQ on the Mini's to. Nice Job!!!

When is a bigger Alt needed
JazzScreamer replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Ever thought about doing a PCM tune? I have one on mine at it gave me 25-27hp at the rear wheels and a bit better gas mileage (2-3 mpg). I've also have a flowmaster cat-back system, AEM cold-air intake, mass flow sensor, 160 thermostat and the newest... Flex-a-lite electric fans. I'm gonna send my PCM off again this week and have it tuned due to the fact that I switch to an electric fan system. Should give me about 3-5hp in addition to what I already have. Thanks again! -

Cool. I just didn't want to see magic smoke come out of my engine compartment. Thanks! -
YEAH Ramos!!! I had a 10" woofer in a...... I kid you not... Corrugated Box (double wall, my dad worked for a box company) The woofer was taken out of my moms home stereo (8 track and record player). NO screws, just duct tape to seal the box. Amazingly enough, it did produce some decent bass for what it was. Oh, and it was just sitting in the back seat of my brother's 1974 Mustang II. Good times. The deck on the Mustang was a 8-track player with the cassette adapter. I wish I had pics.

US Acoustics USX amps
JazzScreamer posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I thought I would post this here since replies elsewhere were slim. I've seen a couple of US Acoustic amps around at a reasonable price and was wondering what people thought about these amps. I know Zed made the first batch of the USX line and them US Acoustics took the plans and had them made in Korea (Pretty chitty if you ask me). I've google this line and people seenm to be happy with them (quality and build), but I thought I would ask around here since it seems that people have a better perspective on the car audio world on this forum. Tell me what you think. -
When is a bigger Alt needed
JazzScreamer replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
never replace, just add. so you did it right. for the third part, just run a wire from your neg terminal to your alternator bracket. bolt closest to the battery. works just fine. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Does the - to the ground on the alt take place of the Engine block to chassis wire? -
I was looking through all the threads on the new AA site on SSA and noticed that no one has directly asked for a release date of the new line. I understand, as most, that marketing strategy plays a big part in this whole scheme as does many other factors. Is there any way that we can expect a firm date on the new AA products and which products to be released (any new lines?)? I'm a big fan of AA (maybe the biggest) and would like to know when I can expect to have an opportunity to enjoy what Chad and his company have to offer. I've been told that the new line was coming out since december. I'm not pushing the issue, but just want to keep the AA fan club alive because many of us really enjoy what AA has to offer and I would hate for that to go away. Biggest Fan, Bob

When is a bigger Alt needed
JazzScreamer replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
So I did part of the BIG THREE today. I did the Alt + to battery and the - to chassis (from the battery) I'm still looking for a good place on the chassis to engine block. All is good. My electrical fans don't squeak anymore. I did have a question though. I did not replace the negative battery terminal, I actually just added a 4ga wire from neg to chassis. Is this OK? The factory Neg wire goes deep into the engine and I didn't want to try and fit a socket or wrench in that spot (lazy I guess) Everything is running fin e like I said. Am I still getting the same benifit as if I just replaced the OEM - wire? Thanks!! -
Hey everyone, I'm planning on starting my build on my wife's car throughout the summer and want to build a SQ system in her car. This is what I have to work with. I'm skilled in carpentry and know a bit a bout fiberglassing. I'll try and post some pics later to get a visual about the build. FRONT 3-4" front speakers deep into the windshiled (you know the kind) 6.5" door pod openings There is room for a tweet mount above the 6.5". Rear Door 6.5" door pod opening. I could also find a stealthy place for a tweet here also. Rear Deck 6x9" opening I was thinking of installing AA POLY's in the 6.5 openings in the front and rear doors. As far a tweeters, I'm open to suggestions. I do like the Vifa XT25's that Chad uses with his HT setup. I can't mount anything in the A-pillars because the air bags are in my way. I'm not sure what to do, if anything with the opening deep in the windshield. I would like to have the soundstage up around my ears, this is why I mentioned the A-pillar thing. As far as the rear deck, I was thinking of installing a pair of 8" Assasins in a sealed box blowing into the cab. I would like to get at least a 10" in there, but dont' know if I have room for that. I really don't know if I want a box in the trunk so to speak. So what do you guys think? Throw some ideas at me. All your help will be appreciated.

New Build for 07 Nissan Altima
JazzScreamer replied to JazzScreamer's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
What is the process of sealing a trunk for an IB setup. I've never done it before and also, what are the pros and concs of that kinda setup for a substage.
