ok... I'm not going to read all that's been posted lol. Everyone will say how a sub performs is all based on the enclosure, which is true to a certain extent... For a more metal musical type geared setup I would pick a driver with a tight suspension setup. It will give it the ability to quickly respond to the tones given to it, and the ability to decelerate for accurate response. I would suggest an enclosure tuned in the high 30s, 38ish with an f3 of 32. You still want to be able to pick up the low end extension of the basssss geetar A strong mid bass up front will bring your sub stage further forward. You need a good xover correlation for everything to play in harmony. kudos for sure on the research you've done thus far -
you could also check into diamond audio D3 8s The SA8v2 is a driver of its own really

I can't personally comment on SSA woofers, but I just hooked up my SA12s and I'm honestly impressed. I was running diamond audio D6s(SQ subs) prior to them. the only thing they don't out preform the diamonds in is upper end "tight" bass as some might call it. But that's not saying they don't preform well in that area. I'm quite happy with them -

Well I finally blew the diamonds lol. I got done with my run yesterday, gave a demo full tilt with the filters wide open IDGAF I had fun. I got more than my monies worth out of those subs. If someone will let me borrow a SA12 D4 for a show on the 21st, I'll be able to pay them on the 20th I really need something to run for then. Any way I took first place in trunk class. Got to meet redline from here. Super cool dude, Got to meet Skip01 and some other from ****. All of them really cool guys. Sat in bret's 160+ truck. That thing is nasty. Any way, here's pics and vids you can see where the coil arced out yes the rest of the winding was stuck in the gap lol My new trophy Irene Irene, meet Jimmy and the smoke rolling out of the ports
