My dcon 15" S4 just came in the mail right in time for my birthday. Decided to pick up some mdf with a few extra bucks and head to my good friends huge shop. The enclosure is i believe 3.3 cubic feet sealed with gorrilla glue. Amp is an eclipse 500w rms monoblock. here is the pictures of how it went. If you wouldnt mind giving me some advice i am slightly confused and worried, because the amp is 500w rms but with sub level at 0 and the amps bass boost around 1-2 decibals i can barely hear the dcon. i have the bass boost on the amp turned all the way up at 8db and it has awesome sq bass at all levels but i cant get slamming bass unless i crank the sub control on my deck. is this abnormal...anyways. here is my masterpiece so far. Havent decided if i want to paint it or try and carpet it.

i know how to set my gain, thats my point i have never seen an amps manual say turn it all the way up
-
you guys are giving me awesome guru information. but truth is the MANUAL that came with the amp says set the gain, "input level", at max when using with a deck with subwoofer level control. that is why i am confused.

this sub is a tank but im still confused as to why this class d amplifier rated for 350-500w rms at 4 ohm is not keeping up with my door speakers. if i crank the sub control all the way up it pounds....but i fear a distorted signal with that. i want it to be clean and loud. my door speakers still shred through the bass. i need new ones because these are cheap sonys. Any suggestions for components? i am going shopping for them tomorrow.

i dont have room for a good sized ported. i do though have a 6 inch pvc pipe 20 inches long. its displacement is .33 cubic feet. if my calculations are correct i would have net 2.9 cubes at around 30HZ if i were to drop in the pvc pipe ported up. would this be a BAD move? and yea i went and showed my buddy who is ex-car-audio-pro and he said i should have faced it back. but i was afraid for the subs health facing back and hitting the hatch.

the enclosure is within spec. we have had this trouble before in the previous car on a different sub. in a different box...this subs settings are confusing
-
now it moves with decent excursion. my 6.5s in my doors are on a 100 watt 2 channel amp. i turned it down a bit but my sub level is still at +7-9 to keep up with the 6.5s
-
i guess i just crank my sub control, thanks alot
-
the "gain" is turned all the way up, the manual says this is the proper setting for sub preouts. i guess my frustration is a bit of OCD not wanting to leave my sub control turned up. i feel like im pushing it too hard for music then
-
I readjusted the low pass...that helped a good bit but still sub control is on 0 and its not keeping up with my door speakers...i guess i should just turn those down anyways. thank you all for your great help
-
it has a bass boost, and input adjustment. low paww on amp is around 150. low pass on deck sub out is at 100 i believe as alton said. i took 3.5mm jack to rcas. plugged in my phone and at full volume, the sub is loud but not moving much. seems like the amp could push way more
-
eclipse xa1200 i have the manual and i think the gain knob is the...input adjustment?
-
its not distorted audibly at all. i dont have a dmm to do this now. but the amp does not have a gain dial. to even hear the bass. i have to crank my sub control to 12 out of fifteen if the amps bass boost is on 1-2

I need advice on where to face my subs. my current box only fits one way. facing back, it is in a 1996 geo metro and was wondering us anyone had experience with subs back in the hatch. Thank you very much

I am working on my plans for my box and would it be acceptable to cut a hole for a round port and have the port extrude from the box some distance? The Box is 3.5 cubes or so tuning to i hope 32 Hz for a 15. Could it be outside to get more airspace?

i am in the same boat i am putting the finishing touches to my resume and turning it in at the 3 shops in town, Express Automotive is a rather new business and has an awesome owner. my resume will mention my goal of increasing my knowledge and understanding of mobile A/V and other automotive services. i turn eighteen in 3 weeks he said Bring in a resume he seemed very accepting of the idea of an apprentice tech. Try the same, always make Very Sure that you do it the right way, and come off as Seriously interested. True proffesionals (IMO) are people who love their field of work, and another person pursuing the same passion is not competition but an ally. Make your car look as clean and well done as you can even if your like me and too broke to afford a dash kit...i try and keep my stuff neat and tidy. First Impressions are alot.

I am new and am designing a ported box, it is 4.1 cubed inside for 1 15 and i want to tune low. how big should the port be so the air speed is not too fast?

How big should a port for 15" be?
Micah Horton replied to Micah Horton's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I calculated the port size for a round port and it came out to be 8.24 and if i calculate the length than it has to be 36" long to be tuned correctly. i dont have that depth -

Orion Hot setup 300w amp shorting out
Micah Horton posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
So i have an orion 300w amp model t475. it is plenty amazing! except the bass boost button just distorts but every other option is good and it seams under rated. But a while back i put it in my friends car and forgot about it. so it was pushing 1 15 and 2 6x9s and she said it just stopped...she had her friend put in an old american legacy amp that was 400w with all of the gain and hz controls ripped apart from the board........ so this 300w amp was given to me and now its back in my hand. i got home and hooked up a computer 12v supply to it and the power supplys breaker flips whenever i try to start the amp. i had just tested the american legacy amp on the same supply a few minutes earlier Sorry for such a long post but what im getting at is, is this orion amp fried or can i save it? -
What is all of your opinions on Alpine type Rs? In my town it is the craze

What do you think about type Rs?
Micah Horton replied to Micah Horton's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
