Electrical upgrade question
Jason Witt replied to theo111's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Having a secondary battery adds reserve and delivers large amounts of current upon demand. I would never advise blasting your gear without the engine running for daily use. As for clipping lights, the ear is a much better device to detect clipping in your subs IMO. -
Electrical upgrade question
Jason Witt replied to theo111's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The amplifier would be drawing around 150A running at full power. I would suggest a secondary battery. -
Also if your signal wires are ran along side the power wire you will sometimes get excessive noise through rca's. I agree with Julian to check your grounds as well.

Here is how you figure out if you have enough power. Ohm's law is very simple to understand and apply. For the amount of current you will be drawing for any application you divide your total wattage by your idle voltage. For instance for the 500 watt amp, take 500/13.5=37 amps. That is assuming 13.5 is idle voltage, to figure out exactly what yours is, use a DMM to test voltage with rpm's at idle directly at your battery. Hope this helps you to find solutions on your own and gain just a little knowledge while you're at it. Study and review ohm's law so you can find solutions to just about any electrical dilemma.

Can't wait to see it finished. Very nice.

Rockford Fosgate T1000 vs T1500
Jason Witt replied to 1two3's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
It will take no time at all to burn up your stock alternator or seriously damage an amplifier or something of that nature. I gave him the amount of current draw with the t1500 in his electrical thread and suggested a larger alternator either way. -
36 or 37 amps worth? I would just go with the t1500 because you are still going to have to upgrade your electrical either way.
-
With the t1500 and the t400.4 your current draw @13.5v would be around 140 amps. That doesn't include any stock components. I would go with a larger alternator if it were me.
-
The difference in excursion may be due to different spiders as well.
-
You have more than enough reserve for your current draw. It does sound like a charging issue. If it were me, i'd test the alternator to see how many amps it is producing with your gear on at normal listening volume.
-
Check all of your connections to make sure they are solid, especially your grounds. If you suspect your alternator is at fault, test it to determine if it is the source of your issue.

best wiring option??
Jason Witt replied to davo's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
A basic 4 gauge wire kit will suffice. A distribution block will work just fine for your two channel amp. -
Are the new Wardens ever going to be here?!?!

I sure hope this gets resolved for you man. I am in the process of choosing different subs for the wall i'm doing, and the Death Penalties were on my list. I would also be very disappointed if they don't make this right somehow. It really does make folks hesitant to buy their products. I know I am now. -

You could try out some sort of heat tape. I don't know what else you could do. Have to make heat to keep the line temperature above ambient.
-
Make sure your grounds are clean and solid. Lots of people overlook a bad ground.

something i have wondered about but never seen untill today!

You'll know for sure when you get your amp and try it out. Try some test tones with and without the "cover."

I like my AA Mayhem's. I have reconed them with BTL parts, they are basically the same I think. They are 12's and pound and get nasty low on 5k.

I bet she likes bass.
