been out of the loop for about 3-4 years now and dont know whos making what anymore. not looking for anything crazy just something to fill in the low end for the hour long drive everyday. small box, low power, >$100 music- little of a lot. country and rock mostly. a little top 40, hip hop, talk radio.... going in a civic trunk. got an alpine headunit 9855 i think, the one with the "glide" bar at the bottom.? jl 6.5" in the doors with an alpine 2 channel amp. not to brand loyal, but i dont want junk. again nothing fancy just wanna fill out the music. i think a single 10" or 8" will work. so question is whats a "good deal" now a days? - rob

yeah i used to have a 10" L7 in an s-10 x-cab. loudest single 10" i have ever heard, and sounded good too. man i actually miss that set-up :*(

the 10 looks promising, was hoping for something even less power consumption. thinking of going to 1 4ch amp that will do the highs on 1 + 2 and sub on 3/4 bridged. so probably 100-150 rms to work well with the highs also(amp wise). something kinda like what the w0's were....

so here is a short story why i might be the luckiest guy i know. things @ work have been crazy, lots of long hours lately. with the holiday weekend i wanted some time to relax so i only worked a half day yesterday. i get home and am getting out of the car when my finace' pulls up and tells me she has a suprise for me in the trunk. she says i know you have been working hard lately and i thought i would treat you to a little something for it. i open the trunk and there sits 4- 10" Jl W0's, she had just come from the local shop. she then tells me she got all 4 for $100, out the door.... so i guess my search is over. now its time to start building. i hope to get some pics up in the next day or so......

been out of the car audio loop for a while because i have been working on the new house. with some spair time and cash coming up soon i wanted to do a little work on the car. i have been able to piece together everything but the subs from stuff lying around. its all going in my beater back and fourth to work car so i am not looking to go all out. its a 97 civic 4 door that runs better than it looks. anyways...... looking for something thats pretty well rounded musically ( country, rock, hip-hop, jazz, talk radio ect... i listen to almost all of it) more than likely sealed and up to 3 cuft. i have one of the v-power alpine amps thats 300 @ 4ohm, 500 @ 2 ohm to work with. pretty open to suggestions as i have no idea about who's making what anymore..... and i care more about how good it sounds, than how loud it gets. can you guys help me out?

i always liked jl in the past just didnt know if the quality is worth the price tag anymore.

i know my local shops carry jl, kicker, boston, rf, diamond, alpine, memphis...... are any of these still worth a look or are you just "paying for the name" reason being as i am thinking of buying from brick and mortar as we have been having some delivery issues at the new house....

you do some awsome work. just wondering if i could pick your brain on how i can make 4-10" jl w0's fit in a 97 civic sedan. would like ported but will go sealed if i have to. any ideas?

i have a new project vehicle that already had some work put into it by previous owner and i am in need of new highs for it. it is a 97 civic 4-door. car came with jl tr 600 coax in the doors but they are pretty much shot. i havent payed much attention to car audio for the last couple years so i am pretty out of date with the latest equip. looking for something i can pretty much drop in without a ton of fab work (at least for the mids). looking to keep it between $100-150 but will go up to $200 if justifiable. need it to be well balanced musically. i listen to country, r&b, rock, hip-hop, talk radio......just depends on the mood i am in at the time. the equip i have to work with radio - alpine 9855 sub amp - alpine mrp-m500 subs - 4-10" jl w0's highs amp - pending power req. for highs.... either the alpine mrp-f300 or f450 oh and doors do have 12sqft. of dynamat original per door done by previous owner. should i do more?

oh, alright i got you now..... any recomondations on decent equipment to use? like i said before i have been out of the caraudio loop for a while now and have no idea who is putting out quality stuff. i wanna do this right the first time.

yeah the glide touch can be a pita @ times. what do you mean by a simple 2-way active setup. pardon my ignorance its been some time since a have done anything to a car.....

the jl coax that are in it now are junk. the surround on one is torn about 1/3 of the way around it and the other side sounds blown. all it does is pop and crack.... or else i would try and work with what i have. i did see @ an online site cdt has the cl-s60a comps on sale for 99.99 good price? worth it? they also have the upgraded tw-24 tweet with it for a few dollars more......

just bought a 97 civic off my mom and dads neighbor for $500.00 i figured it would be a good little back and fourth to work car thats gonna get alot better gas mileage than my truck. this will be my first attempt at a "project" car. can you guys point me to some good places online for parts and accessories? not looking for anything over the top, just something practical that i can have some fun with. forgot to mention the car does run....

steve- i will definatly look into all of the above. thanks i did notice the engine light is on, so i am gonna try and get it in to my mechanic to see what it is. my neighbor seemed to think she mentioned the o2 sensor being bad, but wasnt sure.

thats more of the stuff i am looking for. i want it to drive/ride good. dont care so much about how fast i can go, and how quick i can do it.

agreed on the radio part. i have an alpine 9855 thats probably going in this weekend. followed by diamond d6 comps, as soon as i get something to power them with. as far as ricing goes....not so much. i am not into the body kits, turbos ect.... just simple yet effective upgrades. its a 97 that has sat for about a year. it as been driven around since but only a half dozen times or so. he also said through the winter months he would start and let run for a few min. every couple weeks. first thing i plan on doing is oil change, and changing the air filter ( its almost black). but after that i wouldnt know where to begin..... sorry if i wasnt clear, i dont know much about turning a wrench but i am trying to learn... also thaks for the oem site, i am sure it will come in handy. rob

i guess not so much accessories, other than a radio. because as we know stock sucks, not to mention no cd player. other than that mostly performance stuff. i am not real sure as i am not much of a gear head at all so i wouldnt even know where to begin. just some basic stuff for now, to help improve the overall driving performance of the car. suggestions?

dont let the price fool you, its not a p.o.s. it was his wifes car and they are going through a nasty divorce and he just wanted to get rid of it. runs pretty good, and body is in good shape, no rust and only a few dings...
